We are listing today for your consideration a lovely pair of Antique 19th Century Deepset Walnut Wood and Gilt Frames with Original Signed Watercolor Painting Portraits of Man& Woman. We are assuming Husband& Wife. The frames and paintings are in Excellent Shape with minimal wear to the walnut frames. The frames measure 15" x 12 3/4" x 2 5/8" The have gold gilding as well as the original gilt edged mat and the paintings are below glass. The portraits are signed each D.J. Artist on the front in watercolor and on the back David Jones 71& David Jones 72 in pencil. We don't know anything about the artist, we did a search and came up with nothing. The painting of the man has a stamp on the paper in black Hovey's Rives. We could not find anything on that as well. Each portrait is on cut out paper which is pasted ... moreon heavier paper. The portraits are period as well as the frames so we are assuming that the 71 and 72 are for 1871 and 1872. Up for auction are two lovely air brushed paintings of Hawaiian Hibiscus, circa 1940's. The same artist painted and signed both paintings. I am not sure of the name of the artist. Each air brushed Hibiscus painting is 16" by 20" in size and is painted on thick matt board. On the back of one of the paintings"Hibiscus# 2" is written in pencil. Two Signed Hawaiian Oil Paintings "Happy Children" in Native Dress on 3/4" Board
Here are a pair of 14 x 11 inch signed. Vintage oil paintings of Hawaiian children in their native wear. The children are smiling and the colors are vibrant as the photographs display. You can really see the richness of this artist's work when you observe the flowery leis, and the careful details employed as the board was carefully stained around the edges to bring the child subjects into focus. It is difficult to date these pieces. They may be from the 40's, 50's or 60's, and could well have been done by a street artist selling to the tourists. There are scuffs and scratches, but the colors are so wonderful that any damage gets lost in the beauty of the art.

BACKGROUND INFO: Listed for your consideration is a trio of vintage Navajo Indian sand paintings. They were created on pressed wood boards. The large one measures 8 inches x 4 inches(20.4 cm x 10,3 cm) The two smaller ones measure 6 inches x 4 inches(15,2 x 10,3 cm) The verso(reverse side) of each is marked in pencil with the names Yei Be Chai, spelled also as Yei Bai Chai. One is marked Yei Be Chai Clown. One is signed: Johnson. Another is signed H.J. so also presumably created by Johnson. One of the major ceremonies of the Navajo is the nine-day Night Chant or Yei'bi'chei dance. It is only held during the winter months and is usually attended by many people. From miles around. It is during this ceremony that boys and girls receive their initiation into the rituals of Navajo religion. The items are clean and odor-free. When thinking of what would work for an exhibition titled“Observations of the Feeling of the Beautiful and the Sublime” I started by looking up the definition of sublime. I was take by these two aspects of the definition: the first being: to cause to pass directly from the solid to the vapor state and condense back to solid form, and the second: to convert(something inferior) into something of higher worth. I originally proposed to complete some drawings and a short animation of something changing from solid to vapor and back to solid without defining what was going to change. The paintings have nice, feathered detailing. They are signed by the artist, but it is difficult to read. They have extremely nice, carved wood frames which are black with red accents. The pair have the original paper backings, which are torn in a few areas. They appear to have been framed in California. This is a very sweet pair of Kitsch art! The collection of Carl and Fannie Junge they were socialites and very active in the art's and writers guild in Chicago is the early part of the century. Carl Junge was actually a bookplate designer and he actually designed Woodrow Wilson's book plate. Most but not all of letters were addressed to either of them. But one of Fannies Passion was collecting signatures. And A lot of them are pasted in books some are not. And she saved all letters and signatures so it's going to take me awhile to go through the books and sort out one's to list. But I do have a real job so it's going to take me ... moreawhile to get it all done, but keep an eye out for my auction's because there is some pretty amazing items. Sorry my pictures turned out a little dark. This is a very very interesting letter Discussing what should be done with his controversial and graphic paintings of the inside workings of The Armor Company Slaughter House. In the letter he is defending his paintings from art critics. And is trying to find a home for them. I have done a lot of research on these painting and I yet been able to locate where the originals are. I have managed to find a few pictures of them on the Internet. Excellent pair of miniature Mughal Indian paintings in a fine frame. One signed. 10 Photos) The pair. 3 3/4" wide by 5 3/4" high within frame measuring 9 3/4" by 12 3/4" Are in wonderfu l. O riginal condition. The court painting on t he left is signed with a monogram in t he lower right corner. The other is unsigned. But the borders are very similar leading me to believe they may have been by the same artist. They are matted with a black fabric. Maybe silk, and the gilt border is beveled so as to give it nice depth.the frame is a molded. Wooden frame with gilt finish with some wear. The f eat ures of the man in the left frame and woman in the right frame are v ery detailed and expressive of mood. I ndicative of a quality paint er. I've done a little research. This auction is for four(4) unframed Indian sand paintings. They are all signed by the Navajo artist named B. Begay. He works out of a Pueblo near Santa Fe. New Mexico. These paintings have four different Yei's. The Navajo Yei means something along the lines of spirit, god, demon or monster. 4 signed oriental paintings
You are bidding on 4 oriental signed silk paintings. I am not an art expert. Purchased these as a group years ago with intent to frame an hang. Never got around to doing it. It looks like a different original artist signiture on each painting. Maybe from Vietnam as I don't think China or Japan have rice patties in their paintings, I think they paint dragons and animals more. As for the signitures they appear different on each painting and appear to be original, however, I can't read the names. Sizes are 8 1/2 x 12 1/2 the size with matting is 13/2 x 17 1/2. The only mark on back is a square stamp with LN/VN. They have been keep in plastic bags since purchase years ago. Any questions please email me.

Chinese Silk Paintings Set ( 2 )Signed -Scholar & Servant ? Gilt Framed w/ Glass
This set of 2 paintings was gotten by my aunt and uncle when they lived in Shanghai in 1930. I do not know the age of the pieces. They are painted on silk with what looks like watercolor and ink. But I am not sure of the medium. They are matted and framed under glass. The mattes are a pinkish/mauve color. The frames are gold gilt paint on wood. The framed paintings are approximately 11 inches wide x 19-1/2 inches tall x 1 inch deep. The actual paintings are approximately 6-1/2 inches wide x 8-1/2 inches tall. The colors are still very vibrant. And are pinks, reds, turquoise blues, greens, grays, gold, white, and black. They are very delicately rendered.
