Rare Antique 19th. Century Chinese Fan Box Embellished in Hand Painted Gold
Up for auction are an amazingly beautiful Antique Chinese/ Cantonese Lacquered and Silk Lined Fan Box. Amazingly detailed with hand painted landscape and figures in gold. Measures almost 16 inches long and approximately 2 inches tall and 2 1/2 inches wide. Inside measurement opening to hold the fan is 11 1/8 inches long with the end side of the fan opening is almost 1 1/4 inches. This used to belong to my grandmother who died back in 1966 and has sat in my parent's garage in storage. Not seeing the light of day for almost 47 years. My wife and I are retiring and moving out of state this summer and need to find new homes for many of our beautiful antiques and collectibles. Antique Hand Held Fan Fragile But Still Works
Up for bid is an antique hand held fan. This fan has the look of old oil cloth. the handles are wrapped with black cloth. There's round headed nails in the ends where the fan attaches. The fan closed measures 8 3/4" long. When the fan is opened it measures 12 3/4" long. This is in pretty good condition for its age. It is fragile but still opens well. Isabelina 1850s Hand Fan, Lithographed & Hand Painted, Based on Painting by Zoff
This is a fantastic hand fan from the 1850s. It's origin is France and is in the Isabelina style. It is lithographed and hand painted and the subject matter is after a painting by Zoffany. It shows the English King George III. His wife Charlotte, and six of their children. It has a moonstone rivet and the beautiful mother of pearl sticks are designed with silver and gold leaf. A similar fan to this was showcased in Nancy Armstrong's book"A Collector's History of Fans" on page 72. I bought this fan already framed so I will not take it out of the frame- it must be sold in the frame. If anyone is concerned about mailing the fan, I can remove the back and wrap the backing(which holds the fan) separately to protect it. The measurements are: the fan is 20" wide and 10-1/4" high. Antique Hand Fan, Framed, From Late 1800s, French
The is a beautiful old fan with the signs of age(some cracks on the folds. One stick had been broken and the right guard had been broken and glued) the best way to display this lovely fan was to frame it. It has three cartouches, surrounded by sequins and spangles. The paintings were done in gouache and the overall fan was of a netting. It has a twisted brass loop. This fan dates from the 1850- 1890. It measures 15-3/4" in width times 8-3/4" in height. The goldtoned frame is 19-1/2" wide and 11-3/4" high. As I noted with my other fan. I can take the back off from the frame and wrap the fan carefully so that there's no damage in the mailing. All you'd have to do is put the back onto the frame. This is up to you but I recommend this- I wouldn't want the fan to be damaged. Antique Painted Hand Fan, Signed I. Stoudez, Circa 1880
This huge fan needs alot of loving! The gouache painting in the middle of the fan. By fan artist, I. Stoudez, is absolutely adorable. The three putti are playing various musical instruments- look at those beautiful faces! The white mother of pearl guards and sticks are beautiful, decorated with gold leaf, except the left guard is broken(photo 5)some glue could take care of that) and there had been some repairs on the central sticks. It's the leaf that shows it's age. I see lots of perfume stains and there are small holes and splits on some parts of the leaf. Above the putti on the right are three blobs of stain. I think I highlighted all the defects in the photos. There are mother of pearl washers and a lovely brass loop. The back has been reinforced with a gauze backing by a professional conservator to keep the fan from ripping more. ... moreThis fan needs lots of TLC. Antique Hand Fan, Painted & Signed by Albert, 1890s
This stunning fan has some stain& tear issues. The signed painting of a man& woman is beautiful. Signed by Albert, a famous fan painter of that time. There are many perfume stains on either side of the painting and a couple of tears in the fabric on the right side. The back is plain and in terrible shape. A good conservator can put a gauze backing on the back. I don't know what can be done about the stains. The painting part would be fabulous framed, if one wants to take the leaf off of the sticks. The mother of pearl sticks and guards are in perfect condition and an absolutely beautiful color- I can see pinks and greens among the golden MOP! The rivet and loop are brass. The fan measures 13-1/2" long and 24-1/4" wide when open- a large fan and really beautiful!

For your consideration a marvelous antique fan. Made in France and dating to about 1850, as the Victorian era was approaching its height of style. Sixteen(16) ebonized wood ribs are hand painted with roses and flowers and heavily gilded with flourish details. Mounted to them is an elaborate pleated paper which is again. All hand painted and gilded. There are three reserves on the front and one on the back which are watercolor depictions, in incredible detail, of young girls and young men in various activities, reading, studying, socializing, picking fruit, etc. On the top of the right hand rib is mounted a small mirror, for checking one's makeup, or perhaps watching the activity behind.the mirror has a small crack. Fabulous Antique 1850s Hand Fan, Lithographed & Painted, MOP Sticks & Guards,
This is a beautiful antique hand fan from the 1850s-1880s. It is a lithograph and hand painted scene of a group of men and women outside on a patio. The front of the leaf is in absolutely perfect condition- no stains or tears that I could see. The back is in great condition also. But has 3-4 small dark spots- nothing that detracts from the pretty flotal sprig hand painted on the back. The MOP sticks are beautifully carved and pierced. The right guard had been broken below the shoulder quite awhile ago and beautifully repaired. I had to really look hard to see the two splits. On the back someone(a framer maybe? put a thin strip of board on both splits. Also, on the other guard as well. The loop is brass and I think the two stones in the rivet are white sapphires. This is a lovely hand painted on silk hand fan with marabou feathers across the top. The sticks are faux ivory and are in good working order except one chip on the inner stick highlighted in photo 3. The painting is in gouache of a lovely sprig of pink and white flowers on a branch. Very delicate and lovely. The loup is in brass and the rivet has a MOP washer. Recuerdo, De Espana Hand Fan, Artist J. Barreira, Spanish/Mexican, Dancing
I came across this hand fan at a estate sale and in all honesty. I don't know much about it. It looks old and I did find on the internet a 1898 Recuerdo hand fan that the wood looks similar and the construction looks similar. The only thing J. Barreira the artist, lived from 1888 to 1957 and of course its a print. I know one of his prints on E Bay is going for high dollars. One of the end handles have RECUERDO on it and the other DE ESPANA. The height measure 11 3/4" and when spread out has a 21 3/4" Span. One of the end pieces has been broken and appears to been glued back together(picture 4) but it feels like it is holding real good. There is one 1/4" tear of the paper on the painted side and a tear on the blank back side. Also there is wear on the painting side at the creases of the fan that appears to be a white streak ... morealong the crease. FRENCH HAND PAINTED VERNIS MARTIN FAN/EVENTAIL RARE C. 1840
This is a French brise Vernis Martin fan. The subject of the painting is quite rare for a Vernis Martin fan. The front of the fan is like a small masterpiece painting, it's so finely painted with such great detail on the faces and figures, depicting the Birth of Venus, Goddess of Love according to Greco-Roman Mythology. At the center of the painting Venus is rising from the sea seated on a scallop shell which appears to be being pulled by a sea creature. Perhaps a dolphin, one of her symbols. There are nine putti, including Cupid and Psyche gathered to witness Venus' arrival. Most of the figures are gazing at her and Triton, the messenger of the sea is blowing into a twisted conch shell, to signal her arrival. The lower gorge is also finely painted with medallions featuring a basket of flowers in the middle. The back of the fan depicts ... morea simple landscape with a more detailed painting on the gorge with three floral cartouches. I have dated this fan as C.1840 however it could be earlier. There are tortoise thumb guards on each side and a sparkling faceted clear stone on each side as well. The silk connecting ribbon was professionally replaced approximately 10 years. Overall condition is superb for an item of this age. Fan is 8" X 13 1/2" There have been many paintings depicting The Birth of Venus. One of the earliest is the work of Sandro Botticelli C. 1486 on display at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. Italy. Another fabulous later work by William-Adolphe Bouguereau C.1874 is on display at The Musee d'Orsay in Paris. Extremely Rare Antique Hand Held Fan Rawhide?? Water Buffalo Hide?
I have never seen a fan like this. I tried to research it and I couldn't find one like this. I brought this fan at an estate sale. It is approx. 19 inches wide when opened and 10 inches in height. I believe it's made out of rawhide. But I'm not sure. I received some information stated it may be water buffalo hide.

Hand Fan of 2 Birds w/Nest on Flowering Branch, Bone Sticks, 1890
This is a large hand painted fan of two birds looking over their neston a flowering branch of white flower. While a dragonfly hovers over them. There are a few spots/stains on the silk from age but not too many to detract from the lovely painting. The bone sticks are in great condition with butterflies and flowers on the design- just one break at the shoulder of the right guard, which has been glued. The left guard is perfect- a good conservator could exchange them so that you don't see the break from the front. The back paper lining is split in several spots but a conservator could glue them back. The star-shaped rivet and loop are silver metal. This fan is large- measures 13-1/2" by 26" wide.

Antique Black & Gold Hand Fan, Circa 1900
This is a very unusual fan- haven't seen one like it. The black silk leaf is in perfect condition. Decorated with gold spangles. The sticks are wood, painted gold. There are round wooden circles on top of the leaf, matching the design on the lower sticks. The washer is MOP, the loop is brass, and the black and gold tassel is really pathetic, but I left it in. If you want to keep it, that's fine. The only problem(besides the tassel) is that one of the round circles on top(in the middle of the fan- see photo 4) has been glued. The fan measures 8-1/2" long and 15" wide when open.

Antique French fan hand-painted, signed, silk, sequins, carving, gold paint
For your consideration is an absolutely precious antique Victorian or Georgian era(pre-1900s) hand-painted silk fan with carved spines. The fan contains swirly embellishments as well as three young couples at a dance. The artwork is signed either"Byon" or Bijon. probably the latter. The silk has gold paint accents and has French silver-colored metal micro-sequins sewn onto it. I can see no loose sequins and no missing sequins. The threads attaching the sequins are intact. The spines are hand-carved and hand painted with gold color. The spines are also imbedded with tiny metal sivertone discs. The fan opens and closes sharply. The join at the bottom of the spines is in fine shape and includes two mother of pearl beads. Overall the fan is in great shape considering its delicacy. There are tears in the fine gauzy silk. Primarily in ... morethe back layer, but also a bit in the front vertically along the folds at the bottom. I have sewn four small stitches with silk thread to remedy the spots that bothered me. see photos) The spines are a little dirty in spots. No spines are loose, missing or broken. Antique Large Printed Hand Fan w/"Middle Ages" Men & Women, Circa 1890
This large fan could possibly be a Lauronce fan but it is not signed. Possibly made at his fan company after his death- his name was not put on their fans after his death. This is a large brown fan with wooden sticks and guards. The leaf is in excellent condition but the sticks are slightly scuffed and a little worse for wear. They aren't broken though and the fan works perfectly. The leaf is printed with a"middle ages" theme. It is slightly faded- probably from age. There is a brass loop attached. It measures 14" long and 26" wide when open- it is big!

Antique Victorian Paper Hand Fan with Leather and Silk Duvelleroy Box
Beautiful paper fan with vivid. Beautiful colors with golden edges and accents. There is a small crack in the fan on one end which had been hand mended with a threaded stitch. The fan is not marked, however, it came with a fan box marked Duvelleroy 17 Passage Panoramas 35 Boul Des Capucines. Box is maroon leather on the outside and maroon silk lined. Box is 11 1/2 inches long and weighs 5 ounces. I will pay standard shipping charges. Outside of box is marked F.A.S. 1895. The box may very well be worth more than the fan, though the fan is lovely. Duvelleroy was at this location in 1895, so I think the engraving is accurate. As with all antiques, there is some natural wear which I tried to show in the pictures. Thank you for looking!

Antique French Sequined Silk & Blonde Horn Hand Fan, Circa 1890s
This is an adorable little fan with a small tear on the upper right next to the guard. Needs to be re-glued to the guard. The sticks and guards are inlaid with cloute. With a floral design. The left guardstick has some rough edges that might have been a break in the past that had been repaired- it's very hard to see. The leaf has gold colored sequins and spangles. It measures 9-1/2" long. The fan used to be displayed in a frame as the horn sticks have bent(see last photo) It can still be opened easily, but it can be reframed. Sorry about the shadow covering the left half of the fan- it is all one color- no fading or anything.

Antique Rare Hand-Painted Fan With Ebony Sticks and Original Box

This fan is antique. Not a reproduction Both sides of the fan are heavily detailed. It opens and closes well and the sticks are made of ebony wood and hand painted with gold tones. The original loop is attached and anchored with mother-of-pearl buttons. Some of the paint is worn away so please view the photos. The reverse of the fan is a cobalt blue with gold detailing. The detailing has birds sitting amongst flowers with the gentleman on the left playing a stringed instrument and a lady on the right reading a book. The front of the fan is incredibly detailed with fountains in arched windows and jewels dripping from them. The center panel has seven human figures ... moreand two sheep on the left and one in the center. The ladies are elaborately dressed and sit in the countryside with buildings in the background. The fan does come in what seems to be the original box. There are no markings on the box and it does have wear to the outside. The fan fits perfectly inside of it. The fan does have damage mostly to the seams. And some to the edges. Some of the folds are split up to 1 inch, and others are not split at all. I have not tried to repair this in any way. When completely folded you can see the wear on all of the edges. The box the fan fits into measures 11 inches long when completely open the fan measures 20 inches wide and 10 1/2 inches long. The guards and sticks are probably bone carved lightly with a curved design which is painted gold, the guards have a pierced area as well, fan is one sided with the ribs exposed on the back side, one rib is broken off and missing just above where it meets the stick, otherwise in good condition. 19th C Antique Ornately Carved Hand Fan, Painted Scene w Fairies Boy Dog, Tassel
Lovely Dual Sided Antique Hand Fan Up for your consideration this is beautiful antique hand fan. Main portion of the fan is paper leaf which appears to have painted scenes.The front or most ornate side has the scene of(from left to right) a young woman watching over a boy with a dog. In the middle there are three ladies being serenaded, and last a man and woman. On the other side from left to right there is a woman with a rake, the center panel is of a man and woman with flowers, the man appears to have wings, I do not see them on the woman, they are surrounded by cherubs or kid fairies, and the last panel is of a man who appears to be a farmer with a wagon. There is some wear to the creases, no major problems with the paper, the guards and sticks are fantastic. Both are carved, well carved probably bone.the guards have the image from top ... moreto bottom.a bird above the full profile of a woman, and laurels towards the bottom, the sticks are well carved and pierced.on the left and right side areas there is an image of a woman and a man standing separately but together, the rest is a line circle design, there is silver and gold leaf on this side, some of the leaf is missing, there was also silver and gold leaf on the guards which has some wear. The sticks also have great detail in the shape at the base. The guards and sticks are probably a cow bone, the loop is a nicely detailed brass, original tassel in red with metal details, there is one break between one stick and the rib which may be repaired, and there may be a small piece missing from one guard where the lady is carved.she may be missing a small piece but not sure.it is small. Measures 12" tall with the loop and 19" with the tassel. Wonderful piece for any collection. Sold As Is. I will combine shipping! Vintage Hand Fan ~ Carved Mother Of Pearl& Paper ~ Painted Flowers ~ Box Frame Your are bidding on a carved Mother of Pearl and paper hand fan with painted flowers that is displayed in a box frame display case. The fan is 16 inches long and 9 inches high at the top. The wood box display case is 20 inches long. 12 inches high and 2 1/2 inches deep. This fan was purchased from a Baltimore, MD estate sale which included many oriental decorative items. The fan and display case is in very good condition.please see photos.

You are bidding on: A Very Large& Framed Antique Late Victorian Off White Silk Fan This very large fan is made of fine silk and has gold or golden discs carefully sewn across its surfaces to illustrate leaves and delicate floral sprays. The ox bone sticks are intricately carved and pierced. All are joined at bottom by a Mother of Pearl button. None of the sticks have any damage. Handsomely displayed in an antiqued gold gilt shadow box lined with sage-colored velvet or velveteen. I've noticed a few very small holes or breaks in the silk.but they are very small and very few. However ~ there ... morelooks to be some noticeable breakage to the fine fabric along the outer lowest stick on the right. The Fan Measures 13.5" wide, so when completely open. As displayed, it stretches some 26" inches across. The Framed Measurements are: 30" wide x 16.5" tall x 2" deep. Overall Very Good + to Excellent Antique Condition, ~ not perfect ~ but in remarkable state of preservation. The whole is paper backed. Wired, and ready to hang.
