An antique late 19th century Victorian period decanter. It is of good quality manufacture and is in the manner of the Oslers factory of Birmingham. The body is of amphora shape and all-over cut with the cross-cut diamond pattern which gives superb sparkle. The foot has been petal cut and the neck is slice cut with notches down the edges. It come with matching cut stopper which is probably original. The decanter was probably intended for wine originally. But is would also make a good spirit decanter. It holds a standard bottle of wine and would be fine to use today. I've listed three antique glass decanters this week. Antique Early Victorian Strawberry& Diamond cut g lass Tantalus liqueur decanter, circa 1840's. This auction is for a delightful mid 19th Century tantalus decanter with facet cut stock neck and deep single ring collar. The upper half of the body is strawberry diamond cut with a plain facet corner cut lower half. Comes with it's original matching diamond cut and ground fit ball stopper. Star cut and flat ground base. It's style and design is typical of it's period and would date nicely to the mid 1840's. Made In England Approximately 9" high with stopper in place 80mm wide 80mm deep Age: circa 1840's Condition: In beautiful antique condition with NO cracks or repairs of any kind. Some wonderful base wear scuffs as you would expected from a piece of this ... moregreat age. The ground fit part of the stopper has some minor fretting round the edge.
