Mainly known as a ceramic designer and as the artistic leader of the Gustavsberg porcelain factory. Kåge studied decorative painting at Tekniska skolan in Stockholm and later for the painter Carl W. Wilhelmson in Gothenburg. Johan Rodhe in Copenhagen and at Plakatschule in Munich, where he learnt graphic techniques. His early career was dedicated to advertising and the production of posters. But his best known work was in ceramics, begun when he was appointed artistic leader of Gustavsberg in 1917, remaining there until 1949, when he was succeeded by Stig Lindberg. The focus of Kåge's early ceramic designs. The design of the bowl is repeated on the raised foot. This bowl has the Rd. number 94820 which was registered on 1st March 1888 by the English company of Edward Moore& Co. South Shields. Moore bought the moulds of Joseph Webb of Stourbridge in 1888. And the patterns were included in their new pattern book. Whether this particular pedestal bowl is one of them I don't know. It will certainly need further research. N.B Another Ebayer has contacted me advising the reg. number is 94820 and not 94821 as I thought. Apparently" The registration is for a'set of covered bowls and jugs with gadroons on ... morebowls and covers' And your bowl lacks its cover. HISTORY OF:Edward Moore and Co. The firm of Edward Moore and Co. was established at the Tyne Flint Glass Works. South Shields, in 1860. Their products were in great demand, and they exported to Europe and the colonies. They had a reputation for good quality and appeared at major exhibitions- they were the only exhibitors of pressed glass at the international exhibition at Crystal Palace in 1862. By 1881. The firm was suffering from the depression. The largest cone at the factory fell, but was rebuilt, and furnaces were relit which had been disused due to lack of orders. From 1882. The business boomed for the rest of the century. Patents were taken out on two new colours, eau de nil' and a caramel brown. Moore bought the moulds of Joseph Webb of Stourbridge in 1888. And the patterns were included in their new pattern book. In July 1891. The works were completely destroyed by fire, except for the 5 cones. This clear, hand blown bohemian glass wedding basket/bride bank by Kralik has a semi-rough pontil mark, which I've tried showing in last photo. The purpose of this piece was for folks to place gifts of money into it for the newly wed couple. Afterwards, then it could be used as a vase by using the glass loops as a flower frog. The craftsmanship on this piece is truly extraordinary and this piece of art is even more impressive in person than in photo's. Stourbridge Victorian Opaque Glass Rose Bowl / Posy Vase
Victorian opaque hot worked rose bowl There appear to be 3 gathers(sommerso technique) Inner colour a powder blue- core of white and outer layer of primrose/lemony yellow I think this colour combination is quite rare. The quality is lovely and other than shelf shuffle commensurate to age there is no damage. Measures 3 3/4" high and 4" at widest point. This style and quality of glass is associated with the Stourbridge area of the UK Could have some uranium in the glass- but I don't have a UV light to test. It has the smooth satin glass finish that was developed in the late 1800s. The finish is produced by putting the glass in an acid bath. Yellow Uranium Pearline Glass Poss Davidson Antique Set of 2 Items Bowl& Vase Description For auction is a fantastic pressed glass set of 2 items in the late 19th Century possibly made by Davidson glass. Both pieces are made in yellow with pearline using the tecnique of Uranium production. The set includes a small footed bowl and a trumpet shaped shell form vase. They are stunning pieces of early glass which would grace any collection. The items are both in very good display condition but there are minor factors for consideration which I have tried to show in the extreme close up photos and as now describe. The trumpet type vase has a flaw within the body surrounding the stem which appears as a"scratch" surrounding the stem. The bowl has some small fleck type nibbles to the feet. Antique Victorian 9" x 6" Art Glass Rose Bowl Wedding Basket Vase w/Thorn Handle
This is a gorgeous antique Victorian multi-colored art glass basket. This piece was extremely well made with a perfectly executed design. The top rim is evenly crimped all the way around. It has a round rose bowl shape and rests on a raised round base. It has is a clear applied thorn handle with a loop at the top. This is a thick sturdy cased basket. The first layer is clear glass. The clear glass covers an internal layer made up of a multitude of colors. Some of which are shades of cranberry, cobalt blue, green, yellow, violet, and white. The third layer, or interior of the basket is white. When placed under a black light, the clear thorn handle has a green hue from the early use of uranium which was added to glass at that time. The combination of colors is exceptional. The clear exterior glass shines brilliantly over the colorful design ... moreon this basket. The pure white interior adds even more class to this stunning Victorian art glass. This style basket was very popular in the Victorian Era. The base has an inverted ground and polished pontil. I have taken several pictures for your better understanding. I will be happy to answer any questions you might have. As to the condition; As I mentioned above. Unfortunately there is one tight crack on the clear handle about an inch up which is shown in the last picture. This is not noticeable without very close inspection and in no way affects the display. There are no chips or any other damage. The interior of the basket is very clean. There are normal manufacturer defects such as tiny air bubbles, however, very few. This was an extremely well make piece of art glass. It looks new. The basket measures 9" high with the handle. It has a perfectly round and very level shape from the crimped rim to the base. It measures 6" across all the way around. Without the handle. It measures 4 1/2" to 4 3/4" high from the base to the crimped top rim. The round base measures 3 1/4" across. It weighs 1 lb 13 oz.
