I would have thought this fine old kiln-fired enamel box was English. Perhaps Bilston, but in fact it is French in origin and is a larger size bonboniere or bonbon box. A white enamel ground trimmed out in navy blue, with floral bouquets surrounding the bulbous bottom half and a charming pair of lovers depicted up top on the lid. Some roughness of age showing on the bottom rim, where it's rubbed surfaces over time, but no chips or cracks or other flaws to note on this fine pot-like box. Nicely fitted, the top fits perfectly and closes snug and tight, yet is easily opened. I've written time and again about how difficult this process is. One'paints' on the enamel powders which are suspended in a liquid medium that aids in application, but all of the colors are muddy mauve, grey, taupe and blues and nothing at all like the colors that emerge once the kiln has melted the enamel powders into the thick glassine finish that some mistake for porcelain. The work is done on a metal plaque, or in this case, a copper or brass forming the bottom and the top of this box. The artist is apprenticed for years and years before he/she is adept enough at this arduous and painstaking process to eventuate a finished product like the one we have here. Quite unique, different from many of the enameled boxes we've had over time, and all the more wonderful for its differences. The framed image is approximately 10 inches x 8 1/2 inches. Condition: The enamel plaque is in very good condition with only slight wear to some of the gilding on the helmet. No Chips. Cracks, scratches or repairs or restorations were noted. The frame is another issue in itself. The gesso wood trim surrounding the portrait has a 3/4 inch piece missing. This trim is cracked in several places but the pieces are pretty much still intact. There are small chips and flakes around the edges of the frame as well. The silk material backside is worn and faded. The hinge stand has been repaired earlier, but is again in need of some attention. These are absolutely STUNNING French opera glasses that I have had displayed with a large French doll until recent times. It is now time for them to find a new home. They measure across in diameter approximately 10cm(4" at their widest point. They stand in height approximately 7cm(3 3/4" with the lenses in. They were produced in France although there are no markings. They have been enameled in porcelain and are a vivid blue. Then they have been handpainted with delicate flowers and beading. They have been dated to Circa 1880 or earlier. The outer parts of the glasses are made from brass with mother of pearl at the end of the lenses as well as in the centre to turn the lenses up or down. Perhaps Bilston, but in fact it is French in origin and is a larger size bonboniere or bonbon box. A white enamel ground trimmed out in navy blue, with floral bouquets surrounding the bulbous bottom half and a charming pair of lovers depicted up top on the lid. Some roughness of age showing on the bottom rim, where it's rubbed surfaces over time, but no chips or cracks or other ... moreflaws to note on this fine pot-like box. Nicely fitted, the top fits perfectly and closes snug and tight, yet is easily opened. I've written time and again about how difficult this process is. One'paints' on the enamel powders which are suspended in a liquid medium that aids in application, but all of the colors are muddy mauve, grey, taupe and blues and nothing at all like the colors that emerge once the kiln has melted the enamel powders into the thick glassine finish that some mistake for porcelain. The work is done on a metal plaque, or in this case, a copper or brass forming the bottom and the top of this box. The artist is apprenticed for years and years before he/she is adept enough at this arduous and painstaking process to eventuate a finished product like the one we have here. I am offering for sale an exquisite French enamel box. From, I'm guessing, the late eighteenth or early nineteenth century. It is tiny- only an inch and a half in circumference and an inch tall- and wonderfully-detailed. The top shows a young French girl with a sickle and roses, and the bottom is painted with a farmhouse and lake. The inside of the box is copper. It is in amazing shape, with, as far as I can see, no nicks or chips to the enamel. The first photograph, if you zoom in, makes it look as though there's a scratch, but when you look at the box with the naked eye, this is not visible. At least not to this naked eye!

This listing is for an antique French Limoges on copper portrait painting of a gentleman. The painting is oval and measures 2 ½ by 2 inches or 6.3 by 5 cm. The painting is in a gilt brass frame with cream colored velvet matting around the portrait. The frame has an open work bow on the top and an easel back. It measures 5 by 3 ½ inches or 12.7 by 8.8 cm and has a small loop for hanging at the top. It is in very good condition with only minor age appropriate darkening to the brass. Large Pair Antique Enamel French Opera Glasses NO RESERVE
This is an old pair of opera glasses from a local estate. The measure 4 ¾ inches wide. And 3 13/16 inches long(5 inches long when extended) The pearl eyepieces are not broken or cracked. The glass lenses are a little dusty, but have no cracks or chips. The 2 metal rims around the large bottom lenses have some dents. The porcelain is light blue, with some white at the top& bottom. Enamel floral paintings on both sides, and stars in the fields. The porcelain is in very good condition, with a few small, fine hairlines just above the large lenses. The hairlines are not easily seen without a magnifier. There are some small glass half circle buttons missing from the borders(looks like they were only glued in place originally) There is no signature or markings on this piece, but I feel sure from the style that it is made in France. This exquisite object d'art has 360 degree. Hand-painted pastel colored, enameled scenes of a mother and a young child in an outdoor setting. These opera glasses or binoculars have a mother of pearl adjusting disk. The tops of the lenses are also made of mother-of-pearl and are engraved on one side'San Francisco' and on the other"Mrs. Lux" They measure 4" x 3" It is very interesting to note that nearly all of these types of binoculars were made in Europe and most in France or Austria where the best enamelers were found. We suspect that these were French made. But custom ordered for a Mrs. Lux through a high-end San Francisco shop.
