Solid mahogany tilt top is wavy from the age which is very typical. There is some minor wear in center of the top that takes away nothing. Fabulous carved acanthus leaf on pedestal terminating in extravagant paw feet in gold gilt paint. You will love this piece. Prince George(Prince of Wales) was Regent from 1811– 1820 but Regency became a convenient name for the first 30 years of the 19th Century. Regency furniture was the neoclassical antique style mixed with empire style and the later Georgian style of furniture. Elaborate and ornate. Antiques from Greece, Rome and Egypt were a source of inspiration for furniture designers, attempts were made to make actual copies of ancient furniture and there was even a vogue to copy some of the stone furniture, producing them in mahogany. The regency style of furniture carried on through the William IVs reign, but introduced a few more curves and some elegant decoration. Antique Regency furniture was plain. Slender and elegant. Brass was used for decoration, rosewood and zebrawood veneers were used for a striking look. Mahogany was still the wood of choice for most furniture makers. French polishing came into vogue around 1810 and allowed for smoother shinier finishes which suited the new elegant pieces. first off the pictures are really bad. The white spots i think are dirty spots on my lens that i can't seem to get off. at any rate, for auction is a wonderful early period piece. i expect it was made circa 1860 or so. it has a very thick skirt both high and wide. all original as far as i can tell, pegged together. tilts and locks perfectly. it is as solid as a rock and does not wiggle, wobble, creak, or move in anyway other that it is intended to do. the pedestal is a nice turned mahogany piece as well as the three legs. legs are drilled for casters but there are none in it, but it would require a short shank caster with sleeve. these are easy to come by should you want some. there is a large beaded molding along the bottom of the skirt. there are a few pieces of the beading missing but it is not noticeable. the top appears to be walnut, ... morethe secondary joist supports are oak i believe. it is not uncommon for these early pieces which are hand crafted to be constructed of several type woods. it is a wonderful piece. it is 30 inches wide and 29 inches tall without caster. any question please ask. i gave 700 for it quite some time ago. it may be picked up at my home or shipped at the buyer's expense. good luck.

for sale is a nice antique tilt top pie crust walnut table. the table is well made and works perfectly. it has a nice finish which appears to be original. it sits on a central carved pedestal with three carved legs pegged into the bottom of the central support column. the legs have ball and claw feet which is a great feature. these tables have a multiplicity of uses from serving as a tea table or a pedestal for a large fern. Tilt Top Table Candles~Walnut Paper Mache~Art Painting Phyfe Brass Lions Feet
This is an antique flip or tilt top table or candle stand. I don't know if it falls into the paper mache category. But I'll mention that anyway. It is a very well made table. Lots of detail with it's curved and scalloped edges on the table top as opposed to just a round or oval top. Similar to pie crust edges. You can see the wood cut inserts or joiners(biscuit) on the edge between pieces. I called this Duncan Phyfe because of the brass lion or claw feet but am not sure about that. We believe the wood is walnut. There is a dark green stripe around the design on the pedestal and also a matching dark green line around the top of the table. The catch on the birdcage is stamped Francis Keil and Sons Patented. Table measures 24" high x 22" long x 18" wide. Awesome picture on top however it is showing some crackling or ... morecrazing. There are miscellaneous scuff marks around the edge of the table. Possibly a few on the legs. Please look carefully at the pictures and ask any questions you may have prior to bidding. Description& Condition: Up for sale is this antique 18C American or English carved walnut pie crust tilt top candlestand. It has pad feet with urn shaft and is chip carved. It measures 30" tall x 21" wide at the base and 20 1/4" in diameter at top is in good condition. I believe the solid single board top is either replaced or the base was refinishe because the top is a little darker in color than the base. One foot has has some restoration to a break and was reglued with metal reinforcement on underside. There are no other problems with this early candlestand. Which is in England. I have tried to show the minor damaged areas. But nothing distracts from the gorgeous matched burl wood with the black ebony inlays. Table is 36" round and table height is 28-1/2" This was made over a century ago and is likely to be passed down to your great-great' another hundred years from now. The stand and legs are tight. The original arrow latch mechanism was replaced with a square pin system some time ago. These tables were used for meals. Tea time and other small gatherings.and removed to a wall out of the way when it was not being used. Construction is suggestive of the mid-to-late 1800's. You'll be proud to have this in your home. Pick up only, although I can transport to a local shipper or, for a small fee, drive up to 2 hours to meet you.

I obtained this at an estate sale in central Pennsylvania. It is a majestic piece of construction. A quite knowledgeable individual said'it's definitely English and Old" That is as much as I know other than it is very beautiful and well constructed. The top is approximately 48 x 32" The base is 3-footed supporting a smooth round column. The metal strap underneath appears hand wrought. The table top's perimeter has an inlay construction. The latching mechanism underneath needs about a 1/8" 1/4' adjustment to address wood shrinkage. Item is available for local pickup. Partial delivery within 2 hour radius is possible at a reasonable fee. I can deliver to the local UPS or other local shipper. Whichever you select.
