Please see my other listings for two more snuff boxes and other silver items. This beautiful little box features smooth silver surfaces and a lift-off lid with a round turquoise stone. It is marked inside with two hallmarks that I think are from Iraq, and one of the symbols(the assay mark) is repeated on the edge of the base and inside the lid. Below is a not very good photo of the two hallmarks and a little drawing I made. There is also a good photo of the assay mark inside the lid. You can scroll down to see more photos. This lovely little box measures 1 3/8" across and stands 5/8" tall. It weighs 1 oz(29 gr) on my little scale. It is in very good condition. With normal signs of use and ... moresome tarnish. Offered for auction is a European type lipstick holder with engraving. It is made of 8oo silver and is marked 8oo on the shaft that holds the lipstick. The weight of the piece is 24 grams. The size is 2 1/16" tall. By 5/8" square. The blue stone is approximately 1/4" x 3/16" All parts are in working order. It could use a good cleaning, but I will leave that to the new owner. There also is a very slight bend in the mirror frame. I mention this for the sake of accuracy, as this in no way diminishes the overall beauty of this fine old piece!

Fitted with a shaped silver collar at the base, a short silver cross-guard with down turned quillons engraved with a trellis pattern. A broad slightly curved single- edged blade, double-edged toward the point with a full-length fuller, the forte engraved and gilt on a blued panel with an oval medallion with a crescent moon and crowned by a turban adorned by feathers enclosed by foliage. The other side engraved with military trophies, flags, muskets with bayonets, military horns, scrolling floral motifs. Very old. But lovely, this antique picture frame is silver, hallmarked right at the bottom, difficult to make out, try the zoom option. Unsure of exact era, but presume it is late 1800s to early 1900s. Edwardian? and came from the UK. Deeply moulded detail of Cherubs(or) Angels. This unusual jar came from the Netherlands, 3-3/4" approx. height with top. 2-5/8" approx. height without top. Inside of jar depth is 1-1/2" approx. 2-1/2" approx. width. Has three holes in the bottom. The bottom is not flat. Not sure as to the purpose of the jar but it is a an unusual piece. The stone looks like a marble color. Hollowed out(Probably cast silver then the metal smith polished and carved on top of it) Company: I have seen a ton of brass and bronze Owls with similar designs from the Leonard Silver Company. But there were no markings on this piece. There was a glued on piece of felt on the bottom, but I removed it to get an accurate acid test. I did file down the patina on the bottom to expose the true inner metal. The bottom was rough anyways. Description An extraordinary Edwardian era sterling silver mounted cut crystal inkwell and stamp holder combination. Featuring an exceptional sliding lid to expose the inkwell. And hinged lid to expose two wells for stamps. Two curved sterling arms reside at the front to serve as a pen rest. The heavy hand blown crystal body is beautifully cut and trimmed with beveled edges, its good weight also serving as a paperweight. Finished at the base with a deep wheel cut 16-point starburst. Bearing hallmarks of the English lion passant, leopard head for London, and date letter for 1905. Maker's marks are that of Albert Cohen& Charles Solomon, trading as Cohen& Charles. The firm Cohen& Charles was established in 1890 at 11 Thavies Inn, Holborn, London. In overall very good condition for age and type with no damage to note. The box is hand carved burled wood with silver fitting mounts and interior features. The old original silvered mirror still remains in the interior lid. The old needle case is still there, and a couple of open recesses in the fitting that would have held such things as a miniature book(center opening of larger size) and a stylus or pencil/pen, a tweezer and ear wax spoon, a bodkin, and perhaps some other small item I haven't mentioned. It's surprising to find these items as complete as this one is. The silver marks are on the silver spools and perfume vial caps and can be seen but our photographer didn't capture clear images of those, sorry. A remarkable little treasure, more than likely first purchased from the boutiques of the Palais Royal of Paris, where purveyors of fine objects of all sort, and certainly of traveler's etuis such as this, were first to be found by their wealthy elite customers.
