He stares at the beholder. Wild and bold, with an air of spiritual resilience. His hair is adorned with braids that are wrapped with strips of deer hide coated with a turquoise patina. A long feather lost in the back of his hair stretches towards gravity also finished in a turquoise patina. He wears a bone breastplate which was a popular chest ornament or armor. Since the hair-pipe bones were difficult and expensive to obtain, the number of bones in the plate often indicated the wealth of a warrior. Such breastplates were worn on occasion in battle, but could be penetrated easily by an arrow or a bullet, so they were mainly a decorative or medicine item. The sculpture was molded using the archaic method of lost-wax casting with skin tones finished in a brown patina stain for perpetuation. The chief is mounted upon a black marble and is signed C.M Russell The process of bringing a bronze sculpture to life using the lost-wax method is something you'll appreciate after taking this tour- Enjoy. Faint impression on the back bottom of girl that looks like"GERMANY" Which I've tried to capture in the photos but is so light as to be indiscernible. Bisque porcelain with a green matte glaze with gold accents. Superb condition for age with only some minor chipping: Boy: flower is missing its leaves- Girl: Flower is missing one petal. All else is intact and perfect! No repairs, hairlines, etc. Check out the girls' hat! Both are standing on ladders(orchard sitters) Heavy from being filled. No other discernible marks. She is superbly modeled and painted and this maker makde some of the best half dolls around. The piece is 3.875 inches tall. 3.25 inches wide and 1.75 inches deep. Royal Dux 'Snake Charmer' Figurine
This is a re-issue of a 1930s mould(702. There is a 33 under that, and a 3 under that and a 25 in gold) It also has the raised pink triangle with'Royal Dux Bohemia' stamped on it. The Snake Charmer is approximately 21cm high, including the oval base. She wears typical 30s headwear and a silky garment hanging from a belt all in gold and pale blue. The snake is a cobra in a typical pose with the neck puffed out. The horn was damaged and had to be repaired, but the damage is between the hands, so is not visible. Volkstedt Porcelain Karl Ens 1930's Art Deco Piece Hand numbered on the bottom 4761 Entirely handpainted by skilled artisans at the Volkstedt factory in Germany. It beautifully captures the drama surrounding the lonely clown. As the story goes, this mime loses the love of his life Columbine, to the Harlequin. With his hand clutching his broken heart, he tilts his head skyward as if asking if the pain will ever go away. Dressed as a jester in a flowing white suit with a ruffled navy collar, he leans on his mandolin or guitar for support. Notice the palest of tint on his ears and graceful hands in contrast to the stark white clown makeup on his face. Typically a Pierrot is portrayed in just black and white with a splash of red or yellow to evoke a sense of drama to the piece. This is an exception.
