This is an extremely rare antique 18th century handmade silver over bronze portable pocket holy water font. it is completely hand hammered and formed from thick bronze and is completely hand engraved with an abundance of very interesting detailing. it has a great patina from age and done in a nice circular format. the box has a sterling overlay and black enamel. it has two holes in the top which fit two fingers perfectly. the top and bottom are riveted together and the top spins opening one or both holes. inside is a piece of cotton that is exposed when opened. it measures 2 1/2 inches in diameter and in great antique shape. The center(smaller) cross is champlevé enamel on what I believe, again, to be bronze. Holy water font has a hinged flip-up lid and is lined with white enamel. Beautiful petite size and lovely coloration on this piece! It measures: Overall size is 4-7/8" high, 3-1/16" wide. Green onyx is 5/16" thick. Holy water font protrudes 1-1/8" Center cross measures 3" high and 2" wide. Ring on back for hanging on wall. Condition: Overall good antique condition. Except for shallow chip(measuring about 1/4" in the upper right corner of the green onyx cross and a bit of roughness and a few fleabites along edges of the onyx. Beautiful & Well Made Vintage Antique Brass, Ormolu & Marble Holy Water Font
This is a beautiful antique home holy water font that is made with marble. Brass and glass. The font has a beautiful and delicate depiction of a dove holding an olive branch descending towards a cut glass demi lune font. The glass font is secured with a beautiful gold ormolu brass collar that is held in place with a rosette flower on each side. Behind the dove is a large olive branch that has a ribbon tied on its stem. The dove sits above the back olive branch secured by a metal ring that is soldered in place so the dove has a 3D effect. The background is marble or another type of stone. It is not plastic or anything faux. The back plating is solid brass with a ring for mounting on the wall. The top and bottom of this brass plate is a little bent but this is not noticeable from the front. There are a couple of flea bite chips to the marble ... moreor stone's edging and there is one flea bite chip to the very center point of the glass font. I tried to show these in the last pictures and none of these imperfections is glaring or obvious. The size is approximately 5 1/2" tall x 2 5/8" wide x 1 1/2" deep. This is a really beautiful piece, very well made with a lot of detail and the design is really beautiful. Offered at a low starting price with no reserve. A wreath of blue and green flowers surrounds the sacred heart. Very evocative of a more religious age than we are in now. FATIGUED FRENCH FINDS fatiguedfrenchfinds This is a beautiful little late 19 th century French. Hand carved meerschaum holy water font. It shows the miracle at Lourdes; so intricately carved for such a small item. The ebonized wood cross is also hand carved but in a much cruder fashion. It is finished off with a small porcelain shell shaped holy water font. The meerschaum carving is enclosed in a small brass frame with bombé glass. The back cover which would have enclosed the meerschaum carving has gone but the piece is still held firmly in place with the original fixings. It has part to the original label still affixed to the wood and I can make out part of the name Soubirou and the date Juillet 1876& Mai 18? There is hand writing along the bottom edge of the carving and I can just make out the words Lourdes but I am unable to decipher ... morethe rest. A beautiful antique French petite little carved meerschaum holy water font.
