Interestingly. This portrait is that of Rubens own son, Nicolaas Rubens wearing a coral necklace(circa- 1619) This portrait often goes by two different names. Head of a Boy" as well as, Little Boy with a Coral Necklace" It is said ... morethat during his day, children were advised to wear coral necklaces to protect them from fits and anxiety. Paul Rubens was a proponent of extravagant Baroque-Style. it is only appropriate that his little boy be framed in this very Baroque gold-gilt frame. The 1890-1920 wood frame has exceptional gesso(plaster) ornamentation at the corners and the center of each side.showing layers of intricate scrolls. Flourishes, shells and leaves.exquisitely linked together with a chain-like garland. The gesso is in very nice condition with only minor cracking in one small area and one tiny probable repair nearby. Enlarge photos#6& 7. The original portrait was done in black and red chalk. Heightened with white chalk, which was then enhanced with pen and dark brown ink on brownish paper. This is a print of that famous portrait. I do not know the date of this print, but my guess is prior to 1970 when this frame was purchased by this estate holder. The backside of the frame has a paper that was glued to it that reads: 174 Rubens- Head of a Boy" The kraft paper on the back of this frame looks to be, at least, 1950 and perhaps older. This print appears to be very old. It has a good frame. The print has a little damage on top a little left of center. see last photo) The original painting was done in 1899 by the British artist George Elgar Hicks and has never been recovered. I was hoping that this could be it but it appears to be a print and it has that mark in the bottom left near the signature. This print d epicts a pretty girl with blue eyes selling her violets. It is signed by GE Hicks 99. It was painted in Launceston Tasmania. Hicks met this child on a casual trip and was enchanted with her…and asked to paint her. The owner of the face was in tears when the painter tore her sleeve in order to get the proper waifish look. Would consider allowing actual inspection of this item at a mutual agreed place.

Antique French Fashion Engraving Print Eastlake Victorian Walnut Frame Berlin
Estate sale found antique circa 1880's French fashion engraving in a Eastlake Victorian walnut frame in very good condition. This print is marked at the bottom"PL. L Bureaux Encheplatz 4. Berlin" The engraving print looks hand colored and has no stains or blemishes. The solid walnut with gold frame is in good condition except for one small area of chipped off black japanning which is set over a white gesso base coat. This minor flaws are all shown up close in the photos. The frame has the original finish with a great patina and the glass is very nice. The back shows a one piece this piece of thin wood that I believe is original but has been put back with the original inside surface facing out as the oxidation color is not as dark as the rest of the bare wood. I say this because some layers of old magazine pages are seen under ... morethe wood panel that someone put in some years back to pad out the print to keep it flat and take up the space created by the wood shrinkage from age. The print measures approx. 10" x 8" the frame is 14+5/8" x 12+3/4" x 2+3/4" thick. Displays well, a great addition to any collection. Will be shipped USPS Priority Mail with tracking included. Contains an antique colored print of ABRAHAM LINCOLN marked on the lower center COPYRIGHT 1927 BY FROST& REED(of Bristol England) IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Lower right side is marked T. Hamilton Crawford– see my photo. Also has small printing on the top center of the print“published…printsellers 1927… The antique frame circa 1890’s– 1920’s. The print is circa 1920’s. Original gold tone liner in the frame. Which is dark and has discolorations. DETAILS: The antique print is in good condition. Not faded, not torn, not stained. The print has a mat with hand drawn lines around the opening for the print. The upper left corner of the mat was cut just a slight bit more narrow– see my photo with red arrow. Frame is good and solid– corners are tight. No wiggle. ... moreThe finish on the oak is the original dark oak color– almost looks like walnut when hanging on the wall. The frame has glass and a old stretcher backing behind the print to protect it– see photos of side and back of print. Partial remains of label on backing. I am not an expert of art. But, I would date this print and frame to the late 19th or perhaps the early 20th century. The frame is lovely with deep well effect. There is one area on the bottom where some of the gold has chipped off, very small and hard to see as someone tried to cover it. This could easily be repaired and covered. The original back has been replaced. The print is lovely of a little bright eyed girl in what appears to be Victorian dress and hat. Overall measures 25 1/2" tall by 19 1/4" wide and 2 1/2" deep. There is tape on the back and I have not taken it apart. The frame has kind of a ripply effect and is painted gold although there are some parts that have flaked off. ANTIQUE ART DECO BRASS? FRAME. MEASURING 7 inches by 10 inches, outside measurements. The metal frame has a raised circular texture to the front, with an applied decoration at each front corner. The frame is circa 1920– 1930’s. It is not attracted by a magnet. So it may be brass– don’t know for sure. The antique frame contains a VICTORIAN colored print– a chromolith– of a little girl mending a sock. Setting is a quaint seaside village with seagulls in the top margin. A very sweet little tiger cat– kitten in playing in the front. The colored antique print is from circa 1900– 1910’s- it is probably an old illustration from a Victorian children’s storybook. Title at the bottom center is“Father’s Little Maid” Print seems in good condition– no tears. No stains. Good color. Opening size of the glass is 7 inches by 10 inches– the same size at the ... moreouter measurements of the frame. The glass slides into the frame. Vintage? Antique? Continental Army Military Frame w/Tom Lovell Print of Soldier
This is a combination of two very interesting objects- a Tom Lovell print of"The Continental Soldier 1 781" and a beautif ul brass coating over metal(I think) frame with the Continental Army insignia at the top. It w ould be a fantastic gift for the collector. Especially with Father's Day coming up. I am sorry. I really don't know anything about antiques, but I will try to describe it. It is 22" high, 14 1/2" across, and 1" deep. With domed glass. The frame seems to be very old. And definitely has wear, but that just adds to its charm. The brass has come off a little in many areas- please look at the pictures. The print is(I think) from 1962. It is in perfect condition. The white spots are from the flash. Inside the domed glass a greenish burlap fabric frames the print. And is actually quite attractive. What ... morelooks like stains on the mat are actually shadows from the flash. This is an antique tiger wood frame 16 1/2" x 21 1/2" wide. It is 14" x 18" on the inside. The print is a Morris and Bendien" Mother and Son" Isreals is in the other corner, probably the artist. The second picture is what is written on the back of the print. There is some darker places on the print that look like tornados where dirt got inside over the years and the frame has some light scratches that I touched up with stain. The biggest spot, picture 4, which is really not all that noticeable. The last picture was taken outside so there is some shading from the trees. So am showing lots of pictures. The frame margin is approxl 1 1/2" wide. The frame measures approx. 15" wide and 11" tall. There are a couple of small areas of missing gilt, including upper right corner, but could easily be repaired. The frame has nice old glass. Large Antique Walnut Round Picture Frame- Neoclassical Sculpture Print- Circular
Available here is a beautiful round picture frame. I believe it is made of walnut. But could be mahogany. Regardless, the grain is wonderful. It is carved of solid wood, this is not veneer. It did not translate well in the photos. But there is a large lip that is carved around the frame. It is razed approximately 1.75" It is put together with four separate pieces that are dovetailed. The frame is very solid. It is in very good condition. I can find no issues. The outside diameter is approximately 22" and the inside diameter is approximately 18.5" It features a nice print of a neoclassical sculpture. The frame is very old. Probably dates to the early 1900's or late 1800's. I am not sure if the print is original, but it does have some age to it. I have also listed a matching frame with a similar frame. The title is DOWN EAST and the artist is Hyde Price. Frame is excellent. Some staining on the margin of the print but it is covered by the mat. We noticed when we took it apart to clean the inside of the glass that there is a"bubble" on the print, because someone glued the print down to a back support. Once in the frame, you never see it. This is a beautiful example of what I've been told is a picture frame you hung by front door to hold letters and magazines that you get through your mail slot. Its a two part piece with the front held on an angle by small chains which leaves a gap bewtween front and back in which to place letters. We are pleased to offer this exceptional. Antique, framed print. The print is signed(picture 5) The subject is an exquisitely executed sketch of a Skye Terrier. The detailing is remarkable and quite realistic. The expression is captivating. The print is framed in the most beautiful manner. The antique, wooden frame is large and substantial. It is finished in black with thick, carved wood, acanthus leaf and scroll accents. These accents highlight and practically cover each corner and extend up the sides, top and bottom. They are gold giltwood and are striking against the black. The print has EDIZ P.V. 21 inscribed under the terrier(picture 6) According to a couple of knowledgeable sources. This indicate that this is, in fact, an engraved reprint of an original art. The number 21 indicates the printing was done in 1921. The matte is also stamped ... morewith two insignias(see picture#7) The first is a fleur de lis with a circle around it. In very tiny print within this circle are the the words, Ediz. P.V. Fiorenza" This indicates that the print and matte were done in Italy. The second stamp on the frame is an artist's paint brush surrounded by a rectangle. Inside the rectangle are the words"Coloratura a Mano" and"Originale Ponte Vecchio" According to what I find online, this is the company in Italy that did the printing. This company was in business in the 1920s and the 1930s. This is an exceptional piece. Both in design and in quality. It is simply stunning. It is in very good condition with only minor scuffing to the finish of the frame. It is covered with a black fiber paper on the back which is still in very good condition. The hangers and wire are still in place. This piece has been well cared for. The measurements are as follows: The exterior frame measures 21" wide and 24" tall. The glass.
