BALTIMORE, MD C. 1820-35 In the manner of John Needles(Baltimore. 1786-1878) crafted of solid mahogany over ... morereeded legs Item# 120009RUW29 The present example is a very fine solid mahogany full dining table. Capable of seating six people comfortably when it is fully opened. The mahogany leaves are single solid boards with reeding along the edges that mirrors the legs, each hanging on original hand forged iron hinges to easily swing up and down. A flamed mahogany veneer completes the apron of the table. The table has six legs, an expensive feature that was time consuming and reserved for a more affluent client. It allows the table to remain firmly rooted while the leaves are extended, truly making it a fully functional dining table. The legs swing over knuckle joints formed of solid oak. In unison with the exterior of the table frame, this surrounding what appears to be pine secondary wood making up the inside of the table frame. These thick secondary woods are remarkably strong and allow the leg to remain in nearly untouched condition after nearly 200 years. The table rests over turned double-rings over sharp reeding, to terminate again in double ringlets over tapered feet. This is a very attractive example for collectors of American forms. Crafted in a distinct manner to that of John Needles. Needles is well known as an artisan with significant output in the Baltimore. Maryland area during the height of the American Classical period. Labeled and documented works by the shop of John Needles are typically accompanied by unusually strong and nearly triangular reeding on legs or pillars, typically in tables though also found in large cabinets and sideboards. He was most active in the years of 1810-48, where the majority of his twenty-four surviving documented forms are crafted. After serving a five-year apprenticeship on the Eastern Shore of Maryland with James Neale of Easton. Needles migrated to Baltimore in 1808 and after a brief apprenticeship under Edward Priestl

Up for sale is this incredible vintage chair made of wood with metal gears. The chair stands 32 1/2" tall at the back. The seat is 20 1/2" wide at the front. The chair is in fairly rough condition with many spots of wear and scratches. A missing rubber strip along the front, and a chip out of one of the plastic covers on the legs. For now. Up for auction is a vintage Mid Century Yellow Cosco step stool chair. Good condition. The chair steps pulls out smoothly as it should and back into place. The Chrome legs show some corrosion. They need to be cleaned with some steel wool if desired. Yellow vinyl seat and back have one small tear and need an extensive cleaning. Also 4 black caps on bottom of legs to keep from scratching floors or sliding. The black rubber for steps is in very nice condition, although one rubber piece is missing. This Antique office drafting chair is one I know the full history of. It came from Cottrell's Printing Press Manufacturers in Pawcatuck, Ct. Made by Toledo Metal Furniture Co. UHL Steel USA, it's age is est. 1930-1940. I purchased this chair in 1969 when Cottrell's was upgrading furniture they sold these to employees. The chair, stool is very comfortable as people sat in them for 8 hrs or more a day. When I bought the chair it was close to 35 years old and I have had it for 44 yrs. This was built for an industrial machine shop setting, it is fully adjustable from 28" low setting to 32 1/2" high setting as well as the back rest being adjustable, it swivels has a curved seat made of walnut veneer 16" x 14" the back is 6" x 13" also in walnut veneer. A great set of 6 ice cream parlor chairs. This set dates to the early 1900's and is in need of a refinishing. All of the chairs are structurally sound and have a beautiful design to them. The backs have the heart shaped design and the legs are a twist design that end in pad feet. There are losses to the paint on the seats and the metal frames as well as some light surface rust spots. This will easily come off with a light brushing. There are no rotting areas on the metal. There is also what looks like water damage and cracking on some of the wood seats. The chairs measure 36" high at the highest point on the back. Measuring 25.5" tall and 11" wide Paint is chipped in quite a few places. And two of the four rungs are missing in the legs(the 2 remaining hold it just fine- very sturdy- the others are quite unnecessary because of the"footrest" that also acts as a rung) It's a beautiful piece used in the 1930s by the owner when she was a child One owner Cream/ off white colored paint The"eating table" flips up and hangs over the back(as you can see in the pics) Screws for this movement are in tact- there is some cracking in the wood around where the screws attach.
