Note- I cannot see any details of map maker or publisher or date. But on reverse has been marked in ballpoint as d l'isle 1720. My web research suggests that in a 1743 book Lo Stato Presente Di Tutti I Paesi Epopoli Del Mondo. D l'isle gets the credits for the maps. But they are almost all by Isaac Tirion. So probably either of these mappers and first half of 18thc. Frame size approx 48 x 54cm. Hand coloured map including borders approx 31 x 37cm. 12 x 14.5" italian text. showing its age with some mild foxing marks. I. Slater's(Late Pigot& Co) New Map of Ireland. Embracing every recent Alteration.Published by Isaac Slater. 55 Fountain St, Manchester. 1845" A very fine example of Victorian Cartography with wonderful handcolouring. Isaac Slater was an apprentice at the firm of James Pigot. Becoming a partner from 1839, and taking over the business in 1843 after Pigot's death. This is a large map(approx. 70cms x 55cms) with a splendid ornate Title. The map distinguishes mail roads. Post etc. roads, cross roads, rail roads, rivers, navigable canals, Cities, Borough, County and Market and Post Towns, with distances from Dublin, and number of members sent to the Imperial Parliament( In other words, a detailed image of the country at that time. Condition: A fine Victorian map with lovely handcolouring. But not without faults. This is a map ... moremounted on linen and folded twice(so 4 sections) with wear along the folds. The only real loss is at the centre where there is a small hole(see photo) Slight browning visible in the sea areas, but I would emphasise that because of the fine handcolouring, this is a striking image that would look wonderful framed. Grubby on the back, and old tape down one of the folds(but it is not torn) I will send this with free postage worldwide. I have more quality maps for sale. In other words, a detailed image of the country at that time. Condition: A fine Victorian map with lovely handcolouring. But not without faults. The only real loss is at the centre where there is a small hole(see photo) 3 or 4 small brown damp stains(see photos) and more lighter staining, but I would emphasise that this is a striking image because of the superb colouring that would look wonderful framed. As far as we know this is an original chart/early copy and it has been viewed by Bonhams and entered into their sale catalogue. The frame measures just over 24" x 19.5" However. We cannot vouch for its provenance ourselves. Having looked it up on the internet, there is a reference to a similar one as part of a collection at http:www.biblioserver.com/newberry/index.php?m=word&kid=17701225&gid=1&id= and this gives most of the descriptive detail. It is a 17th century shipping chart of the island of Bressay and part of the nearby coastline of mainland Shetland(including a very tiny Lerwick!
