Large Collection of Vintage War Office Ordnance Survey Maps - 1940/50s
A large collection of vintage ordnance survey maps of Great Britain– Published by the War Office from 1948(at least one published from 1940) The maps are all folded and the vast majority are in excellent/perfect condition. A large number of the maps are filed in four folders marked as seen in the photo: Supplied for the Public Service’ Portfolio for Important Documents(Foolscap) The document folders are in varying conditions. Which may be seen in the photo, in all honesty not the best condition, but the important thing is that the maps have been protected. The index map of England& Wales is also included. Most of the maps are filed in individual opened envelopes marked‘On Her Majesty’s Service’ The collection in the folders covers most of the Ordnance Survey numbers for England& Wales included in the index map. But the respective ... moremaps are missing from around five of the numbered envelopes in the document folders. The collection will include additional empty(sliced opened) envelopes. Marked“On Her Majesty’s Service” and there are some duplicate maps. There are additional maps. Not in folders, and these are in good to excellent condition: The most interesting is Ordnance Survey Sheet 5– The Eastern Highlands(Military Edition- War Revision 1940) It is mounted on cloth and is marked‘Not to be published’ This map has some stains around the edges.
