Homann was not really a true cartographer and his maps were typically close copies of earlier maps. Usually French, which he reworked with masterfully engraved cartouches and vignettes as is the case here. This map is a case in point- it is a nearly exact copy of a by the Dutch mapmaker Nicolaes Visscher II(1649-1702) Excptionally detailed and quite decorative.
