Again which is not normal. most desks are 41" to 43" wide, this one is quite narrow. Dovetailed case. TOP, AND BOTTOM! it is rare to find these chests/desks dovetailed, let alone the base and top dovetailed. Solid Cherry Case. Again, its a very early sheraton piece, most sheraton desks have paneled sides, this is solid sides indicating it was made slightly after 1800 to about 1810 to 1815. Dovetailed drawer construction. Cherry slant lid. With Flame Burl Mahogany veneer front. Pine Drawer Fronts. With Mahogany Cockbeading, and Mahogany Flame Burl Veneers and Poplar sides, and bottoms. Cherry. Mahogany veneers, Pine drawer fronts with mahogany veneers, and Poplar Secondary woods. The interior has a prospect door that opens to reveal 4 drawers. Tiger maple turned column drawers next to the prospect door. drawers slide great on the ORIGINAL drawer slides. Which is one of the first items to wear out on the early desks, usually resulting in replacements. Unusually tall writing surface. Which would indicate the desk was originally owned by a shop keeper or a businessman of sorts. you will need a tall stool to set at the desk. a nice early windsor type stool would look nice with the desk! Original Finish. Brass drawer pulls, and all of the interior knobs, and lid support knobs. Condition: aside from being the cleanest desk we have ever owned. The overall physical condition is NEAR MINT 98% PRESERVED CONDITION! the only flaws are minor veneer chips on the base from a stool/chair, and 2 spots of veneer loss on the lid, and veneer split due to wood shrinkage on the lid. It was likely made in the early 1900's. Made of oak. And has a spooncarved front. There are no identifying markings. It is in excellent shape and it has the original finish. Brass fittings show a bit of tarnish but should clean up easily with a little TLC. Three of the posts on the brass rail at the top are loose but can be easily secured with a little bit of attention. One of the rail ends is stripped so that will need to be secured as well. Otherwise this piece is ready for your home. I would be happy to provide more detailed photos if requested. I hate to part with such a beautiful and unique item but we no longer have the room and it just doesn't fit our decor. The dimensions are 40 1/2” tall its tallest point. 33 1/2“ wide at its widest point at the base, and 19” deep when closed,and 34“ deep when opened. Local pickup only.

The three adjustable shelves each measure 9” in depth and 41 ¼” in width. This is truly one of the most beautiful Victorian Secretaries of its kind that we have had the privilege to offer. You will notice that there is some faint writing on the back of the piece(see the e-Bay photo) that probably indicates either the maker or the person for whom the piece was made. From what we can see it is signed M. Hall, Hannibal, MO. The details on this Secretary are absolutely wonderful! This beautiful Secretary is constructed of mahogany. And flame mahogany over a secondary wood and the details are exquisite! The bookcase top is graced with a beautiful open arch top with a lovely center foliate carved pedestal that is surrounded on each side with elegant applied scroll land leaf adornments. The bookcase top doors have wavy glass that appears to be original. And three adjustable shelves. The doors have arched tops with picture frame moulding around the original glass and carved foliate escutcheons. The right door has an intact lock and a decorative(non-working) key is included to assist in opening the doors. Also. You will note that there is a small, insignificant scratch on glass in the lower corner of the right door which in no way impacts the beauty or integrity of the original wavy glass.
