The cover does come off. Needs to be glued and nailed. No cuts, slits or stains on yellow plush felt lining inside the box. Dark stain still looks great, no nicks, dings or deep scratches. Has 4 round pieces of green felt on the bottom. The box seems a little warped, doesn't sit flat, is wobbly. Needs a little tlc! Still a nice little box. All these small issues just add to it's charm!
