Caned dining chairs, antique, oak, set of 6 chairs
This is a set of 6 caned chairs. They are hand me downs that my husband and I have been using as our kitchen chairs until we recently bought new furniture. We are not into antiques and so I don't know much about these chairs. I think they are oak. And they do look pretty old. They are very solid and sturdy. 4 of the chairs look like the last picture(need to be re-caned) and 2 of them are like the first picture, where the seat is completely intact. The table stands on solid oak square legs rising over which are three solid oak leaves. Each of the leaves supported by a single swing out leg. A great farmhouse country kitchen dining table with distress marks consistent with character and age. The table almost certainly would originally have formed part of a large'D' end dining table, the corners having been rounded at a later stage on the leaves to form this fine country piece. You will find scratches. Dents, nicks, marks and scuffs proper for its age. The table has a heat stain. The fabric on the chairs is not the original. I replaced the original tapestry when I bought it because it was in bad shape. There are no cracks or broken chairs. I think the table and chairs are made of cherry wood, but I am not 100% sure. The table and chairs are in sturdy, firm and secure condition for daily use. Even though, this set is over 57 years old, overall it’s still in great shape. It consists of an oversized eight-legged dining table, with a hideaway leaf, a beautiful double door, double drawer heavily carved sideboard, a double door dome top china cabinet with a double drawer fan carved base, and a set of six unbelievable chairs, five sides and one arm chair. The tops of the sideboard and the table have been re-sprayed because the leaf and the table top were mismatched, color wise, and the sideboard showed numerous nicks and dings. The rest of the set is in pretty much original condition, although we have re-sprayed it to brighten it up. Antique Oak Dining Set, Heavily Carved, European French Country-china/sideboard+
First off. We are not furniture dealers. This beautiful antique dining room set has graced our home for over 20 years. Time goes by and we are downsizing, so it's important to us that this set end up with someone who will appreciate its beauty and respect its workmanship as much as we do. We bought this set as a favor to a friend. We do not know how old it is or where it was manufactured. Dealers selling similar pieces on Ebay have used the description Vintage French Country. What we do know is that each piece is very well built. It's all tongue and groove. The only hardware in the whole set are the hinges. Handles and lock mechanisms on the sideboard and the china, and those are all solid brass. We also have two very decorative brass keys that fit all the locks. This set is solid oak with a medium finish. The parquet tops on the ... moresideboard and the dining room table are solid. Not veneer. The set is heavily carved. Each piece has gorgeous detail. The legs of each piece are curved with carved detail. Pictures do not do this set justice. It is large. Bold and just gorgeous. The flaws mentioned are mostly hardly noticeable. We mention the bumps and bruises so that somebody is not expecting a flawless set, however we highly encourage personal inspection of these items to see exactly for yourself. These items are in generally good condition with wear and tear consistent with its age. Recently while selling an antique coffee table we had, a gentleman that has been in the business, mention that this set was probably made between the 1930's and 1950. The dining room set consists of: Dining Table with 2 built-in pull-out extensions and 4 chairs. Extensions slide under the table top when not in use. Table top is solid parquet.
