Location: Utica, United States This vintage 2 gallon crock is from the Western Stoneware Company in Monmouth. Illinois. Western Stoneware was formed in 1906 after seven local companies ... moremerged. These companies were: Monmouth Pottery Company, Weir Pottery Company, Macomb Stoneware Company, D. Culbertson Stoneware Company, Clinton Stoneware Company, and Fort Dodge Stoneware. They directly competed with the famed Red Wing Union Stoneware Company of Red Wing, Minnesota. This crock has a Bristol(white) glaze on both the outside and inside. Both the company logo and the design on the opposite side are stenciled on. The maple leaf logo dates the piece to between 1906 and 1930. The stencil on the backside is a nice arrangement of different leaves. This is a nice piece of Americana that would look good in any collection. The crock is in very good shape considering it was originally purchased to be used. Not just for decoration. I have taken photos of three spots that show a little damage; two are along the bottom of the crock and one is on the side. These can be seen in pictures 9, 10, and 11. They are small and hardly noticed. The bottom of the crock on the inside is worn(as seen in picture#5) from being used over the years. The crock has no major cracks or chips. The crock is marked as a 2 gallon crock and measures approximately 9 1/4" tall and 9 1/4" across the top. If you have any questions. Please don’t hesitate to contact me.
