ULTRA HIGH QUALITY 19TH CENTURY ENGLISH ROSEWOOD OVER SOLID YEW WOOD WARDROBE WITH SIGNED LOCKS-THE VERY BEST! With our compliments Bay Colony Antiques takes the the utmost pleasure in offering you this remarkably high quality 19th Century English Georgian Wardrobe made from highly figured Rosewood over solid Yew Wood. We were struck by several things when examining this piece. Aside from its fine condition and aesthetically pleasing appeal this is an amazingly well crafted piece with mortise and through& tenon construction. Its back panels are constructed out of two solid pieces of chamfered Yew Wood that is completely finished. It has twin Tombstone doors. Signed"D&B" locks with key, nickle engraved pulls possessing incredible beauty, a fully shaped base skirt and super case moldings. Every inch of this piece just screams ... moreof its quality. This is something very special! Its interior is fitted with two drawers and three shelves. Two can be removed if your storage requires such. It was refinished and restored about 30 years ago and comes from a lovely Worcester County Massachusetts estate. It is in a highly lacquered finish. All its shelves and drawers are made entirely from solid highly figured& finished Yew wood. As we were moving this we were alerted to its amazing characteristics by its substantial weight. This is not one of the English Container Furniture pieces that flooded the American markets in the 1970's. Cumberland Valley Armoire circa 1850 by Chas P. Baile
Beautiful armoire circa- 1850 made by Chas P Baile of New Windsor MD. Search for him online. There is a pretty legible stamp with his name and New Windsor in both of the bottom drawers. A friend was getting ready to saw it up and make an entertainment center out of it which would have been criminal. He'd removed the shelving which is gone and has been replaced but the carcass and bonnet are untouched. The back had been removed and the original screws tossed but I reattached it using modern brass screws. One metal door lock is missing but there were no exterior metal escutcheons. Only carved wood keyholes, so it has original appearance. I also think that it's been refinshed. This piece would have been a treasute left alone. That's what wrong with it. now what's right. It's visible presence- doors, drawers, front, sides ... moreand bonnet appear to be all original and it's a beautiful piece of furniture. The carving on the doors and bonnet is simple and elegant. I'm in Austin, TX and I have no idea how the armoire found it's way here. It's big. 7'4 1/2" from floor to top of bonnett, 4'3" wide and 1'3" deep. I hope to find someone who will value and care for it as I've got to move and part with it. I've done some research on shipping costs(which are not included in this price) and it looks like $450 is a reasonable number to price this with and I'd be happy to work with any shipper of the buyers choice.

This antique walnut wardrobe is beautiful and versatile. The front and sides of the wardrobe and doors are solid 7/8” walnut(not veneer) It has square nails and a smooth 8“ crease on its right side(saw mark? visible in direct light. There are 2 matched grain. Arched pattern doors that open from the center. The right door is secured to the bottom of the wardrobe by an inside wood clasp. The left door has what appears to be an original lock, but no key. When closed there is a 1/8"3/8" vertical gap between the front of one door and the back of the other door. There is one bottom dovetailed drawer with original, chipped round knobs. The interior, is painted pale blue, has cord openings, and 3 glass shelves to hold a tv, china, and other treasures. Having burled walnut panel dove-tailed drawers with glass drawer pulls, and three original marble slab tops. Circa 1885-1890's. Two small square drawers at the top. And two large, long drawers below. The piece is on the original four casters(wheels) No mirror- not sure if it ever had one. You can use this as a dresser. Vanity table, or convert it to a bathroom sink/vanity/counter. If you were to do a sink, you'd need to take the drawer bottoms off and somehow keep the drawer fronts on. Also great for storing old linens, clothes, and textiles. There are useful lidded compartments and short drawers. Over a large frieze drawer, fitted with elegant brass handles and raised on square tapering legs with brass castors. A washstand. The'D' shaped table has a lovely" Rosso Carpazi" marble top. A useful drawer with two brass handles, and stands on elegant Edwardian legs. A bedside cabinet. With a panelled door that opens to reveal a central shelf, it stands on elegant square tapering legs. One large two-unit armoire in lustrous Chow-mu(Peach) wood. Ornate carvings and majestic appearance. The square corners extend to short feet. Decorated with open carvings on both sides. Each of the doors has original brass hinges with fasteners. A hidden treasure box is located within the lower compartment. Built in Hangchow, China circa mid 1800s. Antique French Armoire Louis XIV Normandy Walnut Wardrobe Unusual Eye Motif
This is a beautiful Louis XIV Walnut French armoire. It stands tall and proud and is an impressive piece with rich texture to the wood finish. The motif looks like an eye at the top and an eye on the bottom- quite unusual! The armoire is 24" deep. 54" 4'5" wide, 91" 7'7" tall. We are unsure of the weight but estimate at around 175lbs. It's been very well cared for in a smoke free home. There are minor marks here and there and it looks like the back right leg was repaired a long time ago. Missing the key. Antique Flemish Armoire
Bought this antique in 1985 from Griffin& Gargoyles. A well-known importer of Northern European antiques. Still there on W. Lawrence in Chicago. What was striking was the elaborate hand carving and beautiful finish. The hand carving is extensive and deep. It's a perimeter for thedoors and all along the frame, including the armoire handle and the drawer pull which are masked into the border, secret pulls.The lock and key are original. It is a large piece: H 95 1/4"xW 55"xD 22" G&G deconstructed it to ship to Chicago. The top cornice/crown lifts off in one piece. The doors slide off their hinges and the sides and back are connected by 8 hidden machine screws. The drawer pulls out. A clever system that it is stable, easy to do with 2 people and does not compromise the look. Even so this item is for pick-up only. Even ... moreflat this would be expensive to ship and I do not have the expertise to properly handle it. We had shelves built in to house our TV, stereo and the drawer stored CDs and videos. This work was done for me by the craftsmen at G&G as a concession because they did not negotiate on the price of the piece. Believe new owner will use for their own purpose and am not including the interior shelves, unless there is specific interest. This piece is relatively light for it's size and is fairly easy to position. You will need enough ceiling height since it's nearly 8' tall. Basically level, but check how level your floors are. Beautiful mahogany wood has a fine old finish, waxed and polished so that all that is needed to maintain its warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. Matched Pair of Beautiful Red Lacquered Chinese Antique Armoire/Cabinets
This beautiful pair of large antique Chinese cabinets was part of an inheritance. So our knowledge of them is very limited. Similar items seen on eBay suggest that they are Ming cabinets from the early-to-mid-1800's and sell for $900-$1,300 a piece, with matching pairs being much more rare and expensive. Both cabinets have experienced some damage from exposure to the extra-dry climate of Palm Springs. One has been professionally restored and is in very good condition. The other. Unrestored cabinet is in less-good condition, with the primary flaws being several long vertical spaces developing in the sides where the panels shrunk and separated. There is also some areas of slight discoloration on the front. Fortunately, most of the flaws are masked by the rich patina that items of this age can develop over long periods of time. Oscar Wilde A Very Good Quality c.1860s Gothic Revival Oak Hall Cupboard Period: Mid Victorian Provenance: Unknown Date: c.1855-65 Width: 32 inches Depth: 15.5 inches Height: 88.5 inches(all at extremities) all at maximum) The nineteenth century Gothic oak hall cupboard on a plinth base with a ripple moulded arched mirrored door of eleven glazed panels. The arch having applied carved decoration, and further carved niche sides, the brass ring handle to the door opening to reveal two adjustable hanging rails and a series of coat hooks, survives from the early to middle part of Victorian period England. The cupboard is presented in good overall order. Two of the rectangular plates are possibly later replacements ... morewhilst the other nine are certainly original and have sparkling and foxing to the plates. All nicely greyed. Two of the glazing bars are later replacements. This small issue aside she is in a totally original state and the oak has a very good colour and patination. The handle, hooks and rails, and all of the carved decoration is seemingly original. Although the lancet or arched shape of this cupboard is synonymous with gothic design. One often doesn’t see an entire door panel being mirrored and the superiority of the piece is very evident right through from the build quality to the applied carvings. Hall cupboards of this type are usually also doubles so the rather slim proportions of this example make it rather more versatile and elegant. We can’t find another even similar to this example having been sold which may suggest it was privately commissioned. A man who remains any length of time in a modern Gothic room.
