It also has beautiful carved scroll work and flowers, similar to some I have seen on Eastlake era pieces. It has beveled glass mirrors with some silvering occurring, but even this, I can see a way to appreciate the way it has come about along the edges. This is a Taisho Era(c. 1920's) haribako(sewing box) with a unique arrangement of four drawers and an additional hidden fifth drawer behind a removeable area in the flip top lidded top section. The top removeable area is divided into two sections with an additional removeable pin cushion box on the left(see picture 7) This tansu chest was used to store valuables as well as equipment for the person of the house to do repairs on Kimono and bedding as well as money and valuables in the hidden fifth drawer. The entire box is made with a traditional hinoki wood peg construction as well as dovetailed corner work(see last picture) The face and top are made of burled Japanese mulberry wood with kiri(paulownia) wood interiors and zelkova( keyaki) case work. ANTIQUE AUSTRIAN BIEDERMEIER work / sewing table w INLAID SYCAMORE & BURL WOOD
MORE PHOTOS BELOW You are bidding on a lyre based Austrian Biedermeier side table/work/ sewing table. It measures approx. 31 1/4 inches tall and the top is approx. 16 by 21 inches. The table has a wonderful inlaid top and side skirt with beautifully grained light wood Sycamore and Sycamore burl wood. There is a single pull out draw with a small notch on the underside center for the fingers to grab. The legs have a beautiful lyre shaped sweeping style with some darker wood accents. This is an original Austrian Biedermeier table from around 1830 or so and NOT any type of later reproduction. The inlay and design of this table put it head and shoulders above any other Biedermeier tables you may see offered for sale on eBay. The single draw has compartments making me think this was originally designed as a sewing table but it would make a great ... moreoccasional or lamp table. CONDITION: Fair to good. There are some small old repairs to the top. See photos. There is also a stress crack in the top running along the back from right to left that was probably caused by shrinking of the top at a diferent rate than the sub structure. This could be repaired but is not all that noticeable the way it is. The draw works smoothly and the legs are solid with no movement. From the folded up cabinet as seen in picture 1. It is interesting to see it unfolded and become the bed as seen in picture 8. The entire piece is in great found condition. The wood is walnut with burl accents. There are no repairs. Cracks or damage that I have noticed. It may have had a crest on top at some time period. The bed mechanics and springs are all in great working condition. The two top drawers are functional and have the original brass pulls/hardware on them. Antique Burl Wood Snuff Box with Mother of Pearl and Faux Tortoise Shell C:1800
Beautifully lined in faux tortoise shell. Mother of pearl inlay on top. This snuff box has a blind hinge. It was purchased in England and is from about 1800. Excellent condition with one very minor crack to the wood on the hinge. There are no other imperfections. Very unusual for such an old piece. It measures 3 3/4" by 2 1/8" As you can see from the article which is in one of the pictures. A major magazine shows the value of a box(not nearly as nice as this one) about double what we are asking!

Antique Berkey& Gay Burl Front Dresser Side Board 30’s For sale is(1) antique 1930’s Berkey& Gay walnut burl dresser or sideboard with hand painted decoration and applied raised detail. The dresser measures 35 inches high to the top surface x 48 inches wide x 21 inches deep. The piece is all original and in super condition and finished in a medium walnut color. The cabinet has three graduated drawers measuring 5. 4, and 3 inches deep on the inside and are dovetailed. The skirt and the removable backsplash have hand painted rose decorations. The book matched burl front has raised decoration and fretwork corner pieces done in ebonized wood. The drawer fronts are detailed with a small molding that is ebonized on the inside. Turned pieces decorate the sides and top of the front with turned legs in the front. The dresser rides on 4 small ... morewooden casters. The drawer pulls are wood and original to the piece. The dresser has not been refinished and retains the original look. The Berkey& Gay brass medallion is located in the top drawer on the right hand side where it should be on their pieces. The back of the cabinet is stamped 1X5044C W U which most likely refers to the design and color. Condition is excellent. There is a slight discoloration on the top from sunlight. There a 2 pieces missing from the applied carving on the skirt each about ¾ inch in length and shown in the photo. There are no major knick or scratches but the item shows expected wear on corners and raised area typical of a 75 years old piece. antique burl walnut sidelock side lock dresser with gallery and ornate pulls wow
my aunt is 97 and wanted me to move this piece off her closed in back porchwhich is heated and cooled. it belonged to her grandmother. My great grandmother. i should keep it but i have no where to put it, my house is full of antiques and all my bedroom sets are complete sets with dresser, wash stand, wardrobe, bed etc. it has been well cared for and is in near mint condition. it has great burl walnut on the drawer fronts. the top and sides are solid walnut. it has never been refinished as far as i know. the drawer pulls are wonderful. some of them were a bit loose and any that needed firming up i have reglued. it has the original brass casters with double wheels on each caster and moves very nicely. it has a nice gallery on the top. aunt beth can not find the key for the sidelock, but thinks she can. i do not have a great deal of confidence ... morethat she will. she is a bit absent minded these days it seems. all of the drawers function well and besides a missing key there are no other issues to report other than there are a few light water rings on the top along with a few small scratches none of which take away from the beauty and usefulness of this sidelock. i am 5 ft. 11 inches tall and can not see any of these issues while looking at the piece. i have to get on a step stool to see them. again they are not an issue just merely add patina to the piece. the top is pictured and doubtful anything is obvious enough to show up in the photos. i intend to remove the lock and have a new key made. it may be picked up at my home or shipped at the buyers expense. these sidelocks are hard to come by and demand a fairly high price. i am starting it at a figure 1500 less than one not as nice on ebay is listed for.

The caddy has four cabriole legs that splay out. With three interior compartments- each lined with an aluminum foil. The lids have long since been lost many years ago. This beautiful antique burl wood full seat and back needlepoint seat was found at an antique auction~ This chair has been handed down from generation to generation and probably dates from the early 20th Century to late 19th Century. Burl wood has a feudal dark stain that could use reconditioning- some loose dowels but very minor. And nothing major that could not be glued a little. The curved frame on back needs minor repair(see photos) and S stitched ribbon on edges is tattered and torn in some areas. It is finely crafted of richly figured burl walnut and has a tightly sewn beaded top. It was designed to fold to a relatively small package so that it could be easily taken on trips in a coach. The top of this unique stool is 10½” wide and 5½” deep. The legs fold down and a brace swings between them to hold them tight. The stool stands 2” tall when folded and 5½” tall when the legs are deployed. This antique piece has excellent patina but also a little damage. The cord around the beaded top is loose. This is a Fabulous Signed 1800s J J Elliott Burl Wood Bracket Mantle Clock it is simply stunning in beauty! The clock has Samuel Kirk& Son. Inc. Baltimore M. Made in England on the dial face so I'm assuming it was made for the famous Baltimore MD. Silversmith Samuel Kirks company that started in 1815. This clock has an 8 day movement signed that chimes on the 1& the 1/2 hour and it works great! The clock is old is shows signs of wear and some fading but over all it is still in fantastic condition. J J Elliott is a well known English clock maker that is known for making high quality movements. I do not know the age but by the looks of the case and movement I guess around 1880s. The wood has crazing or shrinkage lines but it truly just adds to it's wonderful look. It has the original pendulum I do also have the original key ... morebut it is not in the photos the door key is also the original door key. This fabulous clock stands 14 1/4" tall it is 11 1/2" wide across the foot it's 8" deep also measured across the foot and it weighs 12.10 pounds. Thank you for your interest!
