Stunning Antique French mirror wardrobe/armoire from the Belle Epoque Era
This has been in our spare room for several years and we absolutely love it- it is truly beautiful. Sadly we need to part with it to make way for a new member of the household. The top piece comes off above the mirrored door. And both drawers and shelves come off/out to make moving/transport easier. It is very sturdy, not a light piece. The paintwork is distressed and it was bought like this 11 years ago, and only the knobs and handles have been changed as they were in poor shape or not existent and 1 shelf added. It measures 252 cm high at middle point 124 cm wide. 46 cm deep plus the top piece sticks out another 25 cm as you can see from photo 2, but is removable. Beautiful Mahogany Wardrobe circa 1910 Width = 65" including upper cornice = 75" Total Height 83 1/2" Depth = 21 1/2" including upper cornice = 24 1/2" Triple fronted with a central compactum behind a mirrored door. There are 4 pull out shelf drawers and two cabin drawers below with pull handles. Brass fittings adorn every part. Hooks. Drawer pulls, rails and handles. The ornate front handles twist to pull back the catch and open doors. The hanging rails pull forward on their mechanism to allow full view of hanging garments and stowed back into the cupboard. Ingenious and well made. Pretty inlaid details and quarter laid mahogany grain. This has been finely done. The colouring is very rich without being too dark and it is not an overbearing piece. There is also cornice to the top and scalloping between the'feet' ... moreThe wardrobe dis- assembles into 5 parts meaning it can be brought up narrow staircases/ through awkward doorways. It was originally designed to adorn a wonderful old manor or stately farmhouse and may have had to come through several rooms to be placed. It also means that the wardrobe is easy to transport and manageable to carry. The wardrobe is in good antique condition. There are minor knocks/scratches to the woodwork. As you would expect for an original item of this age. I have noticed the following. There is a fine crack in the wood panel behind the mirror. It is secure for use. But needs mention. There is a small piece of trim missing on the very bottom of the 1" width between mid-section and right section. Also a small corner on the top of same section. The brass on the rail is loose at left side. There are two small spots of white paint on the far left side panel. All of the above mentioned are minor. Overall an amazing piece. It has a tall cabinet for hanging clothes and a smaller cabinet with 2 shelves and 3 generous drawers. It sits on an additional large. Deep drawer. In addition, it is crowned with a decorative scroll-work topper. The final assembled height is 7 feet. It is a little over 4 feet wide and approximately 18 inches deep. It comes in 4 parts- a stand. The wide bottom drawer, the main armoire with 2 cabinets and 3 drawers, and the top piece. The main cabinet has a large beveled mirror in the door. The mirror is 13 1/2 inches wide and 4 feet tall. The main piece is made of heavy Mahogany-like wood with mainly original fittings. You can see that the drawer pull for the bottom(of the 3) drawer was replaced. The bevelled edge mirror is very clean almost suggesting that is has been replaced but I found no evidence to support that it is not the original. The cabinet door has an ornate solid drop pull and the drawer has two large decorative bail pulls. The skirt is arched on the side of the piece and there are scalloped brackets on the front. The interior is paneled and has two mounted hooks and 6 sliding hooks on the hanging bar. A very nice piece in remarkable condition for the age(circa 1890) this armoire is certain to become a cherished heirloom. Condition: It has some age appropriate signs of wear including scratches. This is an early 1900's English wardrobe. Armoire, art deco, inlay, beveled mirror, in 4 pieces. This is an amazing closet that was found by one of my family members at an estate sale years ago. I have used the closet, armoire, for a number of years, and have moved it from room to room, as we have needed storage or closet space. It breaks down into 4 easy to move pieces. The closet seats firmly into the top of the base that holds 2 drawers. The drawers and all of the pieces have quality dovetail construction. Measuring 76 1/2" tall at the tallest, x 59" wide, the base measures 19.5/8" tall x 60 5/8" at the base of the feet, x 19" deep. The closet will hold 16 boxes that each measure 16" long x 15" wide x 10 1/2" tall! There are hooks around the inside and a place for a bar to hang clothing. Vintage 1940's Cedar Lined Art Deco Wardrobe / Chest of Drawers w/ Mirror
This wardrobe is in original cleaned condition. The use of veneers to form patterns and give symmetry to this piece is amazing! The back of the mirror is dated 1940. The door side is lined with cedar with four drawers stacked on the opposite side. There also is a compartment below the bottom drawer that can only be seen after removing the drawer.
