It is QUITE UNUSUAL with ornate metal work on ALL 4 CORNERS on the TOP of the chest.as well as ALL 4 CORNERS on the FRONT of the chest. Both front doors also have a metal SHIELD decoration and one side has a key lock which I do not have the key for. Nor do I know if it works.but looks very classy with all the Victorian Fancy Hardware. When opened. It reveals 3 drawers ~ 1 larger bottom one and 2 smaller side ones. It also has an open space to the right of the smaller drawers. The HANDLES on the 3 drawers are ORNATE with UNUSUAL DROP BAIL PULLS! ONE pull is MISSING. There is one pull which is unattached and as there is some metal damage to the 2 other handles. It will need some fixing.but still acceptable for its age in my opinion. Back is made of 2 pieces of wood and is not split. Just age seperation. The bottom is covered in old felt. CONDITION: ONE SIDE of the cabinet/chest has a center split in the wood. There appears to have been some work on the side that is split.I think it is all original with reinforcing screws.but because this is not my area of

The Hale home was on the Marietta Historical Registry as a way-station for the"Underground Railway, shelter for escaped slaves en-route to Canada, prior to and during the Civil War) Shortly after World War II, about 1947 the city condemned the home to make room for a major highway. Armoires were often built into homes as a small clothes closet. When the home was being torn down, the Hale family removed the 84x42x17 closet and took it to Newport, Ohio, 35 miles north for Grandma Hale's use in her small bed-room in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Catey, and family. American Federal Cupboard or Cabinet. Southern States, Probably Kentucky or Tennessee Early 19th Century c. 1820-40 Item# 130101QIP27 This is a striking piece in every regard. First and foremost. The sheer perfection found in the tight minimalistic landscape of this undistracted and restrained surface is unrivaled. Everything about the form is harmonious, the crown being distinctly angular and sharp, deep enough to cast a formidable shadow over the case while still remaining a small part of the form as a whole. The large case is cleanly divided into six parts by a craftsman clearly averse to using graduation in any portion of the piece. Using deeply chamfered panels set into rabbets in the through-tenon-mortise joined door frames, these opening easily over replaced brass hinges. Inside is a spacious shelved interior, again spaced at equal ... moreintervals with a large space for the bottommost shelf, avoiding the use of graduation. The effect is attractive, resulting in a stoic aesthetic so commonly associated with works of those states. On both left side doors. A tiny wooden catch is affixed to the inside of the door using a hand forged screw, allowing each of the doors to be locked shut; the opposite door has a small wooden knob external and a forged iron lock interior(absent on the lower door) the wooden knobs are likely purchased from a different shop or imported, as they appear to be of black walnut and the work of a skilled turner. They are, however, original to the piece and remain affixed with their original screws. The case is plain and devoid of embellishment. The sides single solid planks that stretch from the crest to the toe, the backboards vertically nailed in tight clean rows along both edges and the bottom. The crest is a separate piece screwed to the top of the case at equal intervals in deep wells. It is very difficult to make a well supported attribution to Tennessee; however, we feel fairly confident this piece originated in either Kentucky or Tennessee. This is a beautiful and stunning piece. A 1790-1800 French Wedding Armoire. Or Bridal Trousseau Armoire. This is a large piece, exceptional handcrafted carving. The sides and back are pine, the front, top, legs and doors are oak. Beautiful example of early French artistry in wood. Stunning patina in a reddish darkish brown which can only be attained with age. A father would have several pieces made for his daughter so that she could save not only her bridal clothes. But her gorgeous linens as well in these cabinets. These were all handmade in France. A daughter was to accumulate many sets of linens for her future wedding. Those with wealth accumulated dozens of sheets, tablecloths, linens for the furniture so one needed quite a bit of storage. The photos were primarily taken in full sunlight. Both front doors also have a metal SHIELD decoration and one side has a key lock which I do not have the key for. Nor do I know if it works.but looks very classy with all the Victorian Fancy Hardware. When opened. It reveals 3 drawers ~ 1 larger bottom one and 2 smaller side ones. It also has an open space to the right of the smaller drawers. The HANDLES on the 3 drawers are ORNATE with UNUSUAL DROP BAIL PULLS! ONE pull is MISSING. There is one pull which is unattached and as there is some metal damage to the 2 other handles. It will need some fixing.but still acceptable for its age in my opinion. Back is made of 2 pieces of wood and is not split. Just age seperation. The bottom is covered in old felt. CONDITION: ONE SIDE of the cabinet/chest has a center split in the wood. Hand planed oak is secured with carved wooden pegs at the joints. Brass lift off hinges and escutcheon are original. The working lock is later. Inside are rustic shelves and sockets where a closet pole was once installed, it could be fitted as desired. This provincial antique from France has dings. Mars, later nails- lots of historic character. The finish is very good. Waxed and polished, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its warm luster. Beautiful Dark Mahogany Armoire.,
This is a beautiful piece that exudes warmth and comfort in the home. It is in good condition with the few minor flaws listed above that can easily be fixed or replaced. All doors and cabinet space is fully functional. The only replaced peice to my knowledge is the wood piece on the back that has been replaced to accomodate an entertainment center set up but this specific section of wood is very commonly replaced and almost never affects item value. And if it does it's very minimal. The simple yet elegant wood trim designs are exquisite and modest. All in all this peice of furniture is an amazing work of art and Im nothing but devastated to have to say good bye.

Genuine French country antique. Wonderful rich patina with a clear wax finish. I purchased this cabinet in France many years ago and I have been using it for storage in an unfitted kitchen. I was told it was an old food cabinet. Reluctantly for sale due to kitchen remodel and shortage of space! The doors. Sides and front are all solid oak. There are splits on the left side of the cabinet. As seen in the pictures, due to contraction and expansion over the years with humidity changes. There are other hairline cracks as one would expect in a piece this size and age but it just adds to the rustic charm. Please look at the pictures carefully. The interior is lighter in color and has 3 adjustable newer pine shelves that sit in the wood grooves with metal braces. The bottom of the cabinet looks newer than the main body. The top of the cabinet. As ... moreviewed from above, has a couple of old worm holes and a 2 inch hole that can been seen only from the inside when you look up. The back of the cabinet frame is oak with old pine panels. Each door has a decorative metal vent. I do not know what type of metal it is but it has a dark patina. It measures 84" high. 50" top corner of cornice across. Almost 48" wide across flat front. 46" wide interior. 21" deep to top cornice. 20" deep outside flat. 18" deep inside.
