Made from solid oak this lovely piece is hugely multi-functional and will work in any room you need storage in. A single door armoire with turned and reeded column supports to either ... moreside of the mirror door. There is a drawer underneath with a slide to keep out dust. And four(4) adjustable shelves inside with another drawer under one of the shelves. The finish is original and a good mid-brown colour with a lovely mellow patina which has developed over many years of loving use. There is a twin bolt lock which is still operable. This is a tall armoire with a height of 226cm(just under 8 foot) and is 107cm in width. The armoire is 57cm deep. The interior shelves each measure 96cm in length and are 38cm deep. This armoire is in good condition and the only issue is some spotting to the mirror. Which is so"in" today. It is possible that the back of the mirror has been replaced at some stage during its lifetime of approximately 115 years. However, age-appropriate wear and character marks should be expected. Armoires such as this prove to be extremely functional and useful for today's living. Blending well with most interiors. The lucky buyer will be extremely pleased. French Carved Oak 1780 Antique Armoire. Modern Fitted Interior. This splendid armoire was hand carved of solid wormy oak and chestnut in France about 1780. Every surface is hewn and hand planed. Vine motifs are delicately carved and wooden pegs secure the joints. There are various losses and shrinkage separations from two centuries for antique character. See photos. Gracefully arched doors have original wrought iron hinges. The old finish is very well preserved. It has been waxed and buffed so that all that is needed to preserve its soft luster is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. A large working lock is about 100 years old but not original. The interior was lined with oak fitted partitions and adjustable shelves about 25 years ago. There are holes for electronic cables through the back. Feet have restorations as is typical. Stunning Antique Salesman Sample Oak Wardrobe / Armoire Miniature
This is a truly wonderful antique salesman sample wardrobe or armoire. The piece is crafted in oak. Primarily quarter sawn, with iron strap details. It is meticulously made. Every aspect of this object is charming and exacting down to the tiny knobs and escutcheons. Note also the detailed side panels and the charmingly executed faux bottom drawers. It retains its original mirror which shows loss to the leading that only add to the authenticity and beauty of the piece.The interior is also beautifully done and fully finished and reveals supports for an interior shelf and rod(sadly not in evidence, if in fact they ever existed) This is the finest salesman sample I have ever had the pleasure to discover. It is a rare and wonderful antique that I have no doubt has been loved and displayed and moved and bequeathed and inherited. Words do not do ... morethis justice. Now to the nitty-gritty. So that there is no disappointment: As evidenced in the photos, this has a wire attached to the back as it was displayed on a wall. In the course of that display, perhaps someone painted the ceiling as there are small paint dots on the top which I'm sure could be removed with fine steel wool. This probably was re-shellacked 75 years ago or so as there is evidence of drip marks down one side. The teeny tiny brad that attaches the front right foot is gone. The doors can be temperamental in staying closed but work wonderfully when the piece is level. And generally, please refer to the pictures as they describe this better than words. It measures approximately 14 1/2" high by 9 1/4" wide by 4 1/4" deep. It is simply lovely and beautifully executed. Please ask any questions you might have. Additional photos available on request. There are no shelves. Instead it has brass hooks as well as a center hook. Probably had a refurbish a long time ago but still gets a lot of compliments. The draw works and is complete. Circa 1960 Oak Includes key Minor wear such as dings and marks throughout Sturdy and strong, Great for a hallway. Foyer, or other small space, this antique hall wardrobe was made in England around 1960. We recently imported it to our antique furniture store in Atlanta, GA along with a variety of other wonderful pieces. The wood used on this beautiful armoire is oak. Although it was made in 1960. It was done in a Jacobean style that has been around for hundreds of years. The main characteristics of this style are the linen fold ... morecarving(or scroll carving) found on the door and the geometric carvings found around the very top. The darkened hinges and escutcheon/ handle are also reminiscent of the Jacobean era. This is a very well built antique hall wardrobe. Whoever the maker was used quality techniques and materials to form a truly beautiful and long lasting piece of furniture. The oak has a lovely medium color that will continue to grow more beautiful with age. The door opens and closes easily. There is a lock and a key however it does not“lock” The key can be used to open the latch. But there is no traditional throw that locks the door while the key is removed. The button on the lock can also be used to unlatch the door. Inside there are brass hooks on the back side. A top shelf also has a brass hanging bar below it. This shelf is removable should you decide you don’t need it. This piece has a unique plaque on the inside of the door from the lock maker. It reads“Locks by“Asro” and claims if the lock needs servicing in the next 70 years it can be posted to the address on the plaque. While I wouldn’t recommend doing this. It definitely gives the piece some unique charm. Even after over 50 years of life.

The 19 1/2" deep interior is empty and could be fitted with shelves or a closet pole as desired. Locks and keys work. Brass keyhole escutcheons are original on this historic European furniture. For your bidding consideration is this unique Oak cabinet which can be used in many different ways. It was designed as a cloak cabinet for an abbey in which the priest stored their vestments and candle lighting tools. The cabinet exterior has been stripped and has only an oil finish; the interior has its original dark finish(see photos) By looking at the photos you can see the brass rod with brass hangers. On the door are the holders for the candle tool rack; there are brackets for a mirror. Not present. As can be seen, the door is quite decorative, with one repaired small panel, which you may not readily see. There are no cracks noted and the hardware is all present.
