Genuine French country antique. Wonderful rich patina with a clear wax finish. I purchased this cabinet in France many years ago and I have been using it for storage in an unfitted kitchen. I was told it was an old food cabinet. Reluctantly for sale due to kitchen remodel and shortage of space! The doors. Sides and front are all solid oak. There are splits on the left side of the cabinet. As seen in the pictures, due to contraction and expansion over the years with humidity changes. There are other hairline cracks as one would expect in a piece this size and age but it just adds to the rustic charm. Please look at the pictures carefully. The interior is lighter in color and has 3 adjustable newer pine shelves that sit in the wood grooves with metal braces. The bottom of the cabinet looks newer than the main body. The top of the cabinet. As ... moreviewed from above, has a couple of old worm holes and a 2 inch hole that can been seen only from the inside when you look up. The back of the cabinet frame is oak with old pine panels. Each door has a decorative metal vent. I do not know what type of metal it is but it has a dark patina. It measures 84" high. 50" top corner of cornice across. Almost 48" wide across flat front. 46" wide interior. 21" deep to top cornice. 20" deep outside flat. 18" deep inside. Antique 19th century French Armoire from the Charente - Walnut - to restore - NR
This auction is for a 19th century French armoire for restoration. The armoire is made of what I believe to be walnut. I purchased this at an antique shop near Cognac in the Charente department of France about 10 years ago and had it shipped to the US as part of a load of inventory for an antique shop(since closed) that was located in Connecticut. It was a project piece that I intended to restore and then sell. Unfortunately. I never had the time to tackle this so I am putting this up for sale to someone who has the time and skill to restore this to its former glory(we used to sell these in restored condition anywhere between $6K& $12k) The photos tell do the best job of describing the condition- to summarize, there is no back(it was a piece of plywood when purchased and removed pending restoration) the crown and top(as well as the bottom) ... moreare missing and will need to be rebuilt, there is no lock on the doors and door on the right has has a slight warp to it(that someone has corrected by putting a piece of wood into the opening to make it close completely) the spanner beneath the doors was replaced at sometime with what appears to be matching wood but not carved to match the rest of the case, the left side is complete but has come out of mortise on the front column and will need to be reattached, finally, the right side bottom spanner is missing the bottom of the curved carved piece(see a photo of the left side bottom to get an idea of what is missing) If you have done this type of restoration project before then you know what is involved and how nice this will be when complete- it's a great project for someone with some skill and patience. Height from top to bottom is 84" Depth from front to back is 21.25" width is about 52" The doors are 48" wide by 71" high. The escutcheons measure 19" high by 1.75" wide. Due to the size. Here is a fabulous early 19th century French wardrobe with original hinges and lovely carving across the top above the doors including raised carved applique date of 1835. Imported to Charleston from France by it's current owner after he purchased it at a high end antiques store in Normandy. The finish particularly on the front doors is nice with lovely wood grains and the original long metal hinges holding the doors in place. It stands 78 inches tall and measures 60 inches wide and 28 inches deep front to back at the widest points on it's bonnet. The outside of the closet itself measures closer to 54 inches wide and 26 inches from the front of the doors back to the wall. Hand carving in solid quarter sawn oak shows superior craftsmanship- artistic detailing. Graceful curves and raised and shaped panels. The original finish is very well preserved on this European furniture. Waxed and buffed. Only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain the warm honeyed patina. Embossed brass hardware and working locks are original. The lower drawer has hand cut dovetail joints. Inside is a closet pole. The interior is 18" deep and could be fitted with shelves if desired. Offered here is a gorgeous Large Antique Louis XV Style Walnut Armoire(French) circa 1880-1910. This piece is in very nice condition. It features beautifully carved provencal style flowers with basket at center. With a serpentine shaped apron raised on cabriole legs and original hardware. It features 1 shelf, but more could be added and the original key. The only flaws to mention is a split in the floor of the piece that does not affect the armoire structurally(see picture) and repair to repair to back legs. This piece is a great decorator piece! It measures 91 3/4" tall x 59 1/2" wide x 23 1/2" deep. The armoire is available for local pickup or we can assist the buyer in locating a shipping company. This extraordinary unique piece features a very rare arched top with intricate carvings that extend down both sides and on to the feet. You can definitely tell that this particular craftsman had a deep love for his work as this armoire is truly a work of art. In my many years of collecting and researching rare antiques. I have never seen another like it. This gorgeous unit dating to the very early 1900’s was shipped to the U.S. in 2003. It measures 84” Tall by 81” wide and a full 24”deep. The center door is a full 35” wide(again. Extraordinary design) with the side cabinet doors at 20.5“ The armoire retains the original beveled glass mirrors on the face of the center cabinet and on the inside of ... moreboth of the side cabinet doors providing a panoramic view when both side doors are open. The original un-restored dark walnut finish on the exterior and burl panels highlights the blond interior. The unit shows very little signs of wear and the mirrors have the typical haze and spotting that were common of the era. All the hardware is excellent except one door pull that is in need of repair as the clasp that holds it to the door is broken. The original locks on each door are intact but I do not have the key. It can be obtained through any locksmith. This fine example of French craftsmanship breaks down for easy shipping. It is doweled as well as bolted together for a perfect fit when re-assembling and I will include assembly instructions. It is a two person job to assemble and will take approximately an hour. There will be a 150.00 crating and packaging fee that will be added to your final winning bid if you chose to have the unit shipped. The reason being. It will need a special packing crate built from scratch to protect it in transit. This is a very nice french armoire but to the right has been used for a TV as there is no back in there. We can put a new back in at no charge, but decided to sell it and give some one the option of this, just in case you would want to use it as a TV cabinet. It has 3 doors to the left there are 3 shelves and to the right is an open space which measures 52 wide and 58 high with 18 inches deep for TV or any clothers there is also a hanging bar to the top. Country French 1790 Antique Carved Armoire. 1 Door. Hand carved of fruitwood about 1790. An authentic Country French armoire has one door. The old finish is in very fine condition with glowing warm patina and just enough mars and wear for antique character. Waxed and polished. Only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its luster. The key is a handle only, the lock does not work and a modern magnetic latch keeps the door closed. Side panels are raised. Joints are secured with carved wooden pegs on this classic furniture from France. A hole was cut in the rough hewn back, presumably for a tv, now covered. Inside is a single later shelf, there are supports for additional shelves if desired or a closet pole could be installed. The crown lifts off for easier moving. Exceptional French Empire Gilt Bronze Mahogany Antique Armoire c. 1880-1910
Exceptional French Empire Gilt& Patinated Bronze Mounted Mahogany Armoire Probably c. 1880-1910 Item# 130408PXG26 This rare and exciting work of art from the last quarter of the 19th Century is exceptional in every way. An incredible accomplishment. The foundry work executed in this piece is above reproach- each gilt bronze mount is hand chased to the highest quality, mercury gilded and of outstanding detail. An angular and commanding work, the Armoire is surmounted by a triangular crest that is removable from the body with two dowels on either side- this is flanked by a pair of carved mahogany(replaced) finials. Beneath the projecting crown molding, an incredible gilt bronze mount of an angel riding through ocean waves in a cornucopia pulled along by swans while leaving behind a trail of shells is simply stunning. Flanking this on either ... moreside are opposing gilt bronze solider masks. The top is removable. Lifting off of large steel screws inside of the armoire to allow the door to be lifted from it's hinges for easier transportation. On either side of the door, pedestaled on large tapered columns rest large and highly impressive patinated and gilt bronze Classical female heads with bowed ribbon holding her hair back. These are the largest mounts of flawless execution we've seen on a piece from this period, each a stunning work of art in it's own merit. A hand filed steel screw secures each head to the case. Beneath the column, intense gilded Lion Paw's in the Regency manner complete the form. The arched door swings open with use of the original key. Revealing a golden oak interior of four shelves and a single locking drawer. This drawer is hand dovetailed with solid oak secondary woods, when removed revealing an illegible signature in period script along the dust board. Affixed to the top of the armoire on the inside is an old bill of lading from Lawsonia Manufacturing Company in Philadelphia, noting it's sale of an"Exist. Large C19th Antique French Continental Gothic Flame Mahogany Armoire Wardrobe
Here for auction we have a stunning large french flame mahogany armoire dating to the mid 19th century. This stunning example. Beautifully finished in flame mahogany has a moulded cornice over a pair of fielded panel doors with Gothic arch design panels and is raised on a plinth base. The interior is free for hanging space so plenty of storage is available. As with all armoire's it flat packs for transportation so will access even the tightest stairwells. The armoire is in good working order with no worm or splits etc to the show wood with the only worthy note being the central back panel is a slightly later replacement but this is only there for supporting the main panels. We go with reproduction. This is one of those pieces that the antique expert is unable to determine from 18th century to 19th century. The inside was at some point updated while yet the exterior and the magnificent carvings are very intricate and the wood itself is very old. This absolutely stunning Baroque walnut armoire was purchased in Opio. France, 11 years ago by my husband and me. Our children are off to college, and we are downsizing, so we are selling a few of our larger pieces. Measures 96" tall. 86" wide, 28" deep. The armoire has two very large doors that swing open, and are secured with a metal antique key. The two drawers under the doors open for additional storage. Indicative of pieces from this era. There are not any'nuts and bolts' but instead the pieces fit together, and are secured and locked in place when the cornice is placed on top. I am happy to send additional photos. Antique Armoire or hutch. hand painted French, lovely
It breaks my heart to sell this piece.but it needs a good home. I have more photos to add. Such as the piece with the doors open, because the inside of the doors are painted with a beautiful patina as well. The last photo that looks like old wood planks is just the back of the unit(that faces the wall) Again, I have more photos, just have to list them. I also have the original key for this piece. This is an amazing French hand painted armoire. I'm told it's more than 150 years old. It's large. Heavy and gorgeous. My aunt paid more than 15k for this piece about twenty years ago. My home had a garage fire and it was slightly damaged by water(not fire or smoke) the water damage shows itself as white on the piece. But I have not tried to do anything to fix it.
