I think that this is some type of exotic maple handles something like birds eye maple or something like that but I am not an expert. The under part of the frame is not exotic just the handles. You are bidding on a Vintage Brazilian Blue Morpho Butterfly Wing Wood Wooden Tray. It is probably from the 1930's or 40's but I am not sure. It measures about 20 1/2" long and almost 13 1/2" tall. There is some slight deterioration to a couple of the butterflies but nothing that is noticable. The glass is in very good condition and the back has some scratches on it. It has a hanger which I believe to be original and it has a tag which apprears to be original to the piece. Overall the tray is in very good condition. This would be a great addition to anyone's collection or ready to hang on the wall. I am not an expert so please examine the pictures and determine condition for yourself. A true work of art. This tray may be a unique decorative item or serve its purpose as a tray. In whichever capacity, it certainly is eye catching. A serpentine dragon guards both ends and forms the handle; on the other corner, a phoenix bird is entangled in vegetation and a little rat nibbles at leaves and fruit. All the border imitates bamboo. Although the carvings are in mint condition, the middle part of the tray shows use, as there are scratches and indentations. The same situation with the back. But I was able to see that this man and his company is a cabinet maker out of Southampton, New York and he started it sometime in the late 1970s. I think they might still be in business, but I'm not sure. I would guess this was made as a sample of his work. A promotional piece, a part of an accessory line, or perhaps it was part of an installation somewhere(matching the cabinetry he installed in a kitchen for instance) It is beautifully made. I think the olive green vaneer might be waterlogged wood pulled up from a river or lake somewhere. It looks liquid to me. The wood trim and handles have a nice long and straight grain- light against a dark red. I don't know what kind it is. But it really goes with the green. 24-1/8" long x 14-1/2" x 1-1/2" overall Very nice overall. I gave it a good polish and it looks great now. There are some stray cosmetic marks. Light scratches, bumps to the corners, and discoloration underneath. Most are not noticable or are underneath where not visible. Please see the pictures for more details. Package

Antique Black Forest Carved Tray Oak Grape Leaves& Grapes Wine Seller c.1900 Antique Black Forest Carved Tray Oak Grape Leaves& Grapes Wine Seller c.1900 This auction is for this beautiful hand carved rectangular serving tray. It is decorated with bunches of grapes. Grape leaves, and grape vines in high relief. They are all hand carved and the whole background is decorated with heavy pointillism. The try has two ornate brass or bronze handles which are a little loose. There is a small fissure on the right side of the tray where one of the screws of the handles has been inserted into the wood. Otherwise, good condition with a rich patina. The oak is stained a walnut colored brown. This is a beautiful item and would be idea in a wine cellar to bring out wine and cheese. Antique mahogany tray with nicely shaped brass handles. Beautifully grained piece of wood with a nice curved edge to the tray and great handles. Condition- In need of restoration. In remarkably strong condition- you can still use it and the handles are strong. But the edge has suffered a hard knock a long time ago and has a split in it which has been mended a long time ago and could do with being redone. It runs from one handle to the centre(of the side only. No splits to the central part of the flat tray) Saying that, if it is placed flat it is not really at all noticeable, so if you wanted to fill it on a sideboard for a decorative thing, absolutely fine. There is also a split at the other handle, running down, not across. Because this tray was damaged and repaired many years ago, it has never been repolished and is the lovely, dark, original ... morecolour with great patination. These plates are in PERFECT condition. There are five plates that measure 6 inches in width. They are still in the original box and include paperwork. Stunning. Kamakura lacquer ware has some very special qualities that cannot be found in any other lacquer ware. The method which emphasizes the three dimensional effect of the carving by applying black ink called makomo sumi on the vermilion lacquer is just one of these. The bold patterns of the carving are also strongly expressed by the unique carving techniques. Still a thriving craft. There are 225 firms employing 387 people, among whom are 18 government recognized Master Craftsmen making the distinctive trays, plates, coasters, bowls and boxes of all sizes that are now the mainstay of this craft. When Zen Buddhism was introduced from China during the Kamakura period(1185-1333) Many arts ... moreand crafts were imported at the same time. Sculptors of Buddhist images and carpenters who built temples and shrines were influenced by examples of carved lacquer ware called tsuishu and tsuikoku that were amongst these Chinese imports. A new style of lacquer ware peculiar to Kamakura was developed by these craftsmen who started lacquering hand-carved wooden carcasses. In the early days, huge containers used for burning incense at Zen Buddhist temples were mainly made but the range of products gradually increased to include tea utensils along with the popularity of the tea ceremony at the end of the Muromachi period(1333-1568) It was not until the beginning of the Meiji period(1868-1912) however, that everyday articles in Kamakura lacquer ware started to appear.

ANTIQUE WOOD TRAY BUTTERFLY AND MOTH WINGS UNDER GLASS ONE OF A KIND
Offered in this auction is a really interesting tray that I would date to the early 1900s. I am not sure of the exact age but it was popular to make items out of butterfly wings in the late Victorian and early 1900s. The tray has an art deco feel to it due to the inlay that is seen around the rim. The tray has a glass insert under which is the hand done butterfly and/ or moth wings. The wings appear to be in very good to excellent condition. In several places that I show in the photo the wings are not close together. However. I do not think this is damage but the design. The tray is approximately 19" by 11" and is closed shut as you can see in the photos of the back. The glass is clear. All in all, this is really a one of a kind piece as far as the butterfly design. I would guess that the tray was handmade by the same person who ... moredid the design. I have another smaller tray of the same wood design but a different butterfly pattern in another auction this week. These were a pair and found at an estate sale. Vintage Wood Serving Tray Woven Textile Cloth Painted Asian Oriental Under Glass
Up for auction is an unusual wooden framed serving tray. Frame is a dark stained hard wood. Material under glass appears to be woven strips of grass or silk cloth. The cloth is painted in beautiful muted colors depicting a sailboat with seated figure dressed in blue in forefront. Sailboat in distance, warm golden full moon or sun with mountains framing the scene. Art deco handles are wooden with brass endcaps and arms. Brass has a lovely patina. The back is covered in a solid green felt glued tightly with some staining. Beautiful RARE Manning& Bowman Mahogany Serving Tray with Brass Handles. This company mostly made very few trays. This is a rare find! The insert is wood cut into pieces and then shaded in hot sand by skilled craftsmen. The original sticker detailing the tray is still visible with some slight fading. The tray measures 15" in diameter. The Tray has some minor scuff and scratches but overall is in very good condition and appears to be the original finish(I have seen some that no longer look like mahogany-too dark) Great find. On sale this antique wood tray. Made probably in one of the scandinavian countries were my nannies traveled often. The tray is of exquisite quality and carving, measure 36cm wide and 4.5cm tall. Looking carefully I noticed that there is a little repair, please see picture for details. All my item can be sent abroad via slow mail this cost a fraction of the cost quoted for airmail. Vintage or Antique Finely Carved 16" Wood Tray with Grapes & Vines-Black Forest
This is beautifully hand carved vintage or antique wood tray probably from the Black Forest of Germany. The tray depicts deeply carved grapes and vines on either end. Open handles are at either end. The quality and detail is superb. The wood is a heavy dark wood possibly mahogany or walnut. The piece is in excellent condition. There are no chips or cracks. There are some scratches and wear on the bottom as you would expect in an old piece. I have not cleaned the carving so there is some dust accumulation in the crevices gathered over many years which can easily be cleaned if desired. The tray is good size measuring about 16 1/2 inches long and 7 5/8 inches wide and 3 inches high. It would make a nice gift for a wine collector.

This great piece of American printing history was used to store wood letters to be inked and pressed onto paper. This particular box probable dates from the 30s. It measures 32" x 16.6" These have all kinds of upcycle uses including as a coffee table with a glass top and legs. Lined with velvet for jewelry/earring holder. Mounted display for small collectibles like seashell, rocks, netsukes, cork board filled with wine corks, thread bobbin holder, etc. etc. Nice aged patina. Crack on back board only adds to the charm of this great tray. Our home and shop are smoke free. We are happy to combine shipping! Just let us know if you are buying more than one item. There are no marks showing any brand or name, the handles are like dowels and there is gold paint as trim. some of the shine has dulled. Dear International customers.
