Up for your consideration is a fine antique cutlery tray with carved handle. This utilitarian box would enhance any collection or look just perfect displaying a few treasured pieces of sterling flatware. I am unsure of species of wood. Perhaps walnut or oak. There is a pencil marking on the bottom which seems to indicate initials(CI) above a line and the number 75 below the line. The measurements of this tray are as follows: 13.5" long 8" wide 2.25" high 3.5" from bottom of tray to top of carved handle. This beautiful antique tray has tiny square nails and shows great craftsmanship. There is one flaw: there is a crack in one of the side panels at the bottom. see last picture) I almost did not notice it at first.I would call it the start of a break. In other words, if I were not careful, I might catch the bottom and the ... morecrack would become a broken piece. I won't attempt a repair, although I'm sure that a few dots of the correct type of glue would easily repair the crack. It runs along the grain of the wood, so once properly glued the repair may not be visible. I found this piece in a house built in the early 1800's that is being torn down. I've only cleaned it lightly with Murphy's Oil soap. I think this must have been hand carved. As the oval in the handle is ever so slightly off. I've enjoyed gazing at this for a few months, and now I hope that it finds a good home, hopefully with someone who may collect these, or knows more about them.

I am selling an antique. Two divisional cutlery tray dating to the early 19th century or beyond. It is a lovely country piece and has some early notches and old knocks that have become part of the patina but no real damage. The shape is lovely with slanting sides and sweeping, curved edges. The measurements are 41.5 cm by 27 cm and 9.5 cm in depth. It is a beautiful piece that has obviously been in use for many years. I shall answer any questions as quickly as possible. Very good antique Victorian wooden Oak cutlery tray with twin sections and carry handle. Nice original tray with nice dovetail joints. Base is made up of sections of wood. Tray measures 12 1/2 inches x 8 inches x 4 1/2 inches high including the handle. Condition is great for age some odd marks on the wood. The felt on the bottom of the sections is not original. This great tray measures 13 inches in length. 8 1 1/2 inches across, and about 4 1/2 inches to the top of the handle. There are no cracks or repairs of the piece. The sides are made from a continuous piece of wood, bent to shape and fastened with tiny cut nails. The bottom is made of one piece of wood. The piece is held together by the tiny nails, no glue. This probably dates from the late 1800s, or early 1900s. This is a charming old piece for display. To hold some treasured items, perhaps some pinecones or dried flowers or such. This early tray is about 15 in. by 9 in. with a 3 ¼ in. height. It is made of Mahogany and joined with hand cut dovetails. The cast brass handle is original to the piece. The bottom is attached with handmade screws. With the slots off center. It is in good condition, sturdy, and useful. The old finish has small marks and cuts from use and the brass has a mellow patina(see photos) I guarantee it to be old and as described. This nice. Large, antique wooden cutlery tray is probably made of pine and is made with flat nails. That noted, and the wear on it, it's probably from the 1800's. Measuring around the top edge, it's 17" x 11" The handle/ divider has a repaired(I can see glue residue) crack running its length. There is also a chip out of the wood at one end of the divider, exposing a nail. It has scratches, dings, scuffs, and other wear befitting its age. Check out my! We found the tray in a great aunt's attic in 1980 and have had it ever since. The front of the tray is oak, the oak extends around the bottom edge on both sides. It is hand painted in a colonial barn red with gold and green colored accented flowers going all around the perimeter on the outside. This is for a fantastic fresh to the market estate find. Out of a Pennsylvania Estate. It is an antique American Folk Art Primitive simple made tray or box. I would guess early 19th Century possibly late 18th Century even. Made for Cutlery or Knives to carry in. Sometimes called a Tote as well. It is solid hand carved and nailed. I believe it is oak wood. But I am not an expert on wood grains. It has small tac type nails in the corners holding it together. It has a great oval cut out handle. With tall hump in the center. This is a primitive wooden knife or cutlery tray with handle that is in excellent condition. Hand made with nice craftsmanship and constructed with old hand forged square head nails. Up for your consideration is this fabulous primitive wooden cutlery tray that I believe could be American. Not sure what type of wood was used. But appears to be a hard type wood.The tray appears to have the original stain and has wooden nails. There are a couple that could have been replaced with metal nails, but really hard to tell. There is a corner that has two old nail repairs.The sides have been put together with double dado joints. Probably dates to the early 1800's period. The tray has a wood handle and considering the age is in good condition. You can see were the knives have marked the top of the tray and the wear on the inside is consist with age. This is a beautiful Large 19th Century Flame Grain Mahogany Cutlery Tray. It measures approximately 15-1/4" long x 11-3/4" wide x 7-1/2" high and is constructed with blind dovetails and screws. It is in beautiful estate condition with NO repairs and NO replacements. The bottom shows the original screws. The interior shows a great patina from normal. Intended use. The old, possibly original, finish shows age appropriate wear, as seen in the photos. There are 2 small losses at opposing exterior corners, as seen in the photos. The flame grain mahogany.
