LARGE C1900 AUSTRIAN GILT BRONZE FIGURAL INKSTAND RUBENSTEIN FOUNDRY No Reserve, This listing is for a large circa 1900 signed Austrian figural bronze inkstand by Carl Philipp and the Arthur Rubenstein Foundry. The piece measures 9 ½ inches or 24 cm high at the back and is 17 ¼ inches or 44 cm at its widest. The bronze features a large figural scene with stairs at the front leading to a platform. There are 8 figures total; on the left are three scholars dressed in robes with scrolls and a globe on stand nearby. Opposite of the scholars are a group of men. Women and children. All the people on the stage are gathered around a fountain with water poring over. Some have jugs and bowls, and others are drinking straight from the fountain. Above the fountain is plaque which reads“KAETANIA” At the front of the inkstand are two lids for ... moreinkwells. They do not have an insert. It is signed at the front of the base“C. It is definitely of Museum Quality. This stunning Corpus measures approximately 29 cm from head top to toes. And 24.5 cm from hand to hand. The measurement from the furthest end of his left hand to his furthest toe is approximately 38 cm. The Corpus is hollow bronze cast, and is gilt. Renaissance Gilt Bronze Jesus Christ Circa 1600 Cross
Beautiful solid bronze cast of Jesus Christ from the late 16th century. Early 17th century! It is gilt copper bronze and measures approximately 11 cm from head to toes and 10.8 cm from hand to hand. Thus it is an extremely beautiful example of true miniature art. There are two tiny metal screw-like insertions in the back of the head indicating it once held a crown of thorns. Which unfortunately, like many other figures of Christ from that period, is missing. The detail is anatomy is astonishing as clearly seen in these photos, how-ever the back does not have the same amount of detail or workmanship. The work is clearly Renaissance Mannerism. 19th C. Gilt Bronze Calling Card Tray; Dionysus , Levillain, Barbedienne
Offered at auction is a 19 th century calling card tray made by the premier French Bronze foundry Barbedienne and designed by the sculpture Ferdinand Leveillain. This tray is cast from bronze and has a gilt surface. The subject depicted on the central plaque of the tray is classical in nature and seems. In my opinion, to have a Dionysic theme. I am not totally familiar with all the adventures of the Greek god Dionysus but this tableau seems to depict the young Dionysus, reclining beneath grape vines, being attacked by a hydra and being defended by two male devotees. That the reclining individual is Dionysus(Bacchus in the Roman world) is indicated by the grape arbor, the leopard skin he is laying on and his thyrsus staff lying beside his couch, all attributes indicating the identification of the young god. Around the central plaque are repetitive ... moredepictions of grape leaves reinforcing the theme of the central plaque. The tray is cast in bronze and stands 1 1/8 inches tall at its lip and is 7 5/8 inches long by 5 ¾ wide. The condition of this tray is quite good with the little wear to the low relief sculpture that Levillain was well known for. The front of the tray has a gilt surface that has been partially restored to its original look showing only a few dark spots and some gilt loss. The unseen back of the tray still has some gilt surface but also has loss to its gilding around its edges. The central plaque is signed by Levillain at the lower right and the back of the tray has the standard engraved mark of the Barbedienne foundry. This is a possible grand tour item. This is a nice antique tray and would look good on a desk or table for the receipt or dispensing of calling cards. This tray should be of interest to any collector of neo-classical art or to anyone involved with wine and enology given that the Dionysus was the giver of the knowledge of wine to mankind. A very beautiful antique Gilt Bronze Jewelry Box. The box is decorated with a hand painted Limoges Enamel Plaque depicting a beautiful woman. The portrait is depicts Jean-Jacques Henner's image of Saint Fabiola. The original painting was painted in 1885. The plaque is signed"TR" HR" or something similar. The plaque is surrounded with tiny seed pearls and the interior has the original velvet lining. Overall dimensions are 4" x 2 3/4" x 1 5/8" high. The Jewelry Box is in very good overall condition with no damage to the Enamel Plaque. The only thing to note are losses to the seed pearl border which you can see in the images. Victorian Relief Cast Gilt Bronze Brass Box Old Testament Figures
This is an old and very beautiful heavy cast relief box with religious figures. The ornamentation is very well done and the arches suggest a Gothic Revival influence. There are Tudor rose and fleur de lis details as well as robed religious(old Testament) figure.There is a lock but no key. The interior is lined with blue velvet although there is no lining to the inside of the lid. The piece is in very good condition for its age. No markings were found. Antique E Jullien/Paris (1880-1900) French Gilt Bronze Tray/Dish/Valet
This is a beautiful antique french gilt bronze that was made by the E Jullien Foundry in Paris between the years of 1880 and 1900. The foundry was only active then. There is a mark engraved on the bottom that says"E Jullien/Paris/12 Rue Pasquier. I have already mentioned the flaws- the gilt is missing from most of the woman's body. There are some nicks and scratches, but it is still very beautiful. I find especially charming the fact that the woman's hair goes down the side of the dish, and you can also see her arm resting there from the side. I am selling this for a friend(this belonged to her aunt) And neither of us know anything about antiques, but I did look up the foundry and found some very good prices for the objects made there. It is approx imately 5 1/2" long by 3 1/4" wide. And weighs 15 ounces. I haven't ... moretried to clean it. Offered is a fine gilt bronze Art Nouveau urn by the Barbedienne Foundry in Paris. It is an art nouveau interpretation of a classical form. With finely modeled, pierced loop handles that continue down the sides ending in raised anthemion motifs. Realistic, high bas relief sculptures of blackberries adorn the front and back of the body. At some time this took a header and dented the rim on one side, and probably at the same time knocked off part of one of the berries. Exceptional Ormolu Gilt Bronze French Empire Dolphin Hoof Figural Candelabra
This beautiful Empire Bronze Candelabra measures about 14.75" tall. The one candle holder on the outside seems a bit roughed up and mounted differently. It can be seen in the pics. The sticks really are absolutely exceptional. Figural elements from top to bottom from the hoof feet to the faces to the acanthus leaf branches. A fantastic piece of bronze work. The wood mounts that are holding the base together seem as if they are about to give up as can be seen in the pics. Not bad for 200 year old wood.

And are of exceptional quality. The figural women are made of bronze. And are mounted on marble column stands. Each woman is holding a gilt bronze curved horn shaped holder. ITEM MEASUREMENTS Lady figures measure about 17 1/4" high. 3" wide and 3 1/2" deep, stone base 6" high by 4 1/2" wide. There are small holes in the sides. some with small round headed screws) but I don't know what they were for. Above is a modern little nail I used to hold the horn in place for photos. Antique French Ormolu Gilt Bronze Zeus Holding His Son Bacchus / Dionysus 19c NR
This listing is for an antique. Circa 1860s French bronze of the Greek god Zeus holding his son Dionysus also called Bacchus. The bronze sits on a two color marble base which in turn sits on a carved wood base. The whole measures just over 17 inches high at 43 cm. The bronze itself measures just under 13 inches tall at 32 cm. The bronze depicts a very handsome Zeus dressed in his lion headed wrap holding his naked equally handsome young son in his arms. The detail on this bronze is exceptional and so is the finish. The finish is in it's original ormolu gilt gold. This finish is bright and all original. This ormolu gold finish was made by mixing pure gold into liquid mercury. 1 complete set of 2 antique Gilt french Candlesticks. Including the bobeches Each candlestick is made from 5 separate pieces including the Bobeche. All held together with a long Very rusty screw that attaches the octagonal base. to the top of the candlestick. There are"5"s stamped into each segment in an area that is unseen without disassembly. I believe to signify the 5 segments of each stick. No makers marks- as there wouldn't be considering the period they were made in. but there are 2 other marks. 1 each found on the underside of the bobeche, an"I" on one and an"A" or a"v" on the other(it is very small even under high magnification it was hard to distinguish Gilting is shiny and candlesticks are beautiful! Fine Antique Gilt Bronze Sculpture of an Arab Maiden by Leon Pilet
Leon Pilet(1836-1916) was a well known and highly esteemed French sculptor. He exhibited in the famous French Salon from 1861 to 1914. He won several prizes. This finely detailed bronze sculpture of a young possibly Nubian woman is standing on an oval gilt bronze base that is engraved with the artist’s name and decorated in rug like motifs. The details of her robe are finely rendered as are her fingers and extremities. She is holding a scimitar in her right hand. This arm has some movement to it; this is expected as these bronzes were not cast as one piece. The gilding and the bronze are in very good condition. We presume this sculpture dates to the second half of the 19th century. Base 6 1/2" x 4 7/8" 13 1/4" Tall. LLEST.
