HANDSOME VICTORIAN ERA KITCHEN COPPER BAKING PAN ~ HAND HAMMERED ~ 19th c.
This is a handsome antique copper baking pan. Our feeling is that it is English or American and produced in the second half of the 19th century. It measures approximately 13 ½” in diameter and a little over 2” deep. The pan weighs 2 lbs. It is handmade and has a hand hammered body with the rim hand rolled over an iron rod for shape and strength which is characteristic of older pieces. The pan has a steel hanging ring which is held by a small metal plate attached to the body by a copper rivet. The pan has a tinned interior. It has no maker’s mark which is generally the case on old functional copper items. This pan was formerly displayed with other pieces of antique kitchen copper many years ago in a Los Angeles area restaurant which ultimately went bankrupt. This specific pan was later exhibited in Mary Frank Gaston’s book“ANTIQUE BRASS& ... moreCOPPER– IDENTIFICATION& VALUE GUIDE” Collector books 1992) It is shown on page 150(pl. 534) The baking pan is in good original condition with only normal use wear. For sale is a RARE BRASS JAM POT MARKED with a SPHINX and some writing that I am unable to decipher at this point. I have never seen a piece with this mark before and I can not find another online. I have spent hours researching this maker's mark and I'm coming up with nothing! PLEASE-if anyone has in formation about the origin of this mark. Let me know! I have listed this one at a higher price due this maker's mark. You know, anything with a mark/signature has higher value and is more collectible. It has been well used and has all the character and dings of a much loved piece. I'm not sure why so many preserve/jam pots in England are brass, but I am finding that most of the brass ones that are listed are from England? ANTIQUE HAND HAMMERED COPPER SAUCE PAN ~ DOVETAILED ~ 18th/19th c.
This is an antique copper sauce pan for the collector of old kitchen copper. It is approximately 4 ¼” in height with a top diameter of 8” and a handle length of 8 ½” The pan is heavy and weighs approx. 3 lbs. It holds a little over 3 quarts in liquid. The sauce pan is entirely handmade and has a tinned interior and a handmade copper handle which is secured to the body by a heart shaped mounting with three copper rivets. The pan is of dovetailed construction. However. Where generally the body is joined by a single vertical brass braised dovetailed seam, this piece is seamed vertically on two sides. This is not particularly common. The bottom is also dovetailed as you would expect. In addition, the pan bottom has an old dovetailed patch where it was once repaired. This is a country piece and would have been too valuable to discard ... moreif there were a hole in the bottom. Instead it was more cost effective to have the pan repaired by a smith or traveling tinker. The repair on this pan is nearly as old as the pan itself. Having lasted all this time it has become part of the bona fides of the pan. Overall. This sauce pan is in good condition for its’ age. It has all of the usual dings of generations of use and wear but no dents. The handle is tight and the rivets are secure. The body of the pan still plainly shows the planishing or hammer marks used to create it. The item is not marked as to who made it or when. Most antique kitchen copper is not marked so this is no surprise. The fact that the pan is a country piece and handmade complicates the issue since the construction techniques were the same for generations. Based on our own experience, we would think that this sauce pan was made in the late 18th or early 19th century. This is a nice old item which has been displayed in our home for many, many years. Very nice condition with a few dings appropriate to its age! A bed warmer(a.k.a warming pan) was a common household item in countries with cold winters. Antique Huge Copper Pot Pan & Wought Iron Handles-Ceiling Hanging Chain-1800's
Up for auction is a rare. Antique, hand made copper pot/pan. It's very large, measuring 5 1/2 inches high and 22 inches across the top. When it hangs from the ceiling, the drop measures 30 inches long. The rim of the pan is rolled and the inside is lined with heavy tin. There are 3 hand wrought iron handles, with copper rivets. The chain attaches to these 3 handles. It weighs between 10-12 lbs. As you can see from the close-up photo's, you can see that there is some wear to many area's of the copper. Also, a lot of little dents and bruises. Not unusual for a piece this old. The photo's are pretty accurate. All together in excellent condition. I purchased this, several years ago, from an antique dealer that was retiring. She told me that this was purchased in France. If you have any questions. HUGE Antique COPPER& BRASS DUPARQUET NEW YORK Tea Coffee Urn SAMOVAR Pot Pan Offered for sale is this huge antique Duparquet. Huot, Moneuse& Co copper and brass urn. The patent date on the brass plaque on the front is 1882. It is complete with the tinned inserts, which look like they are for tea, vast amounts of tea. It is lined with porcelain. The glass level indicators are both intact. It is extremely well made, more like a piece of engineering than kitchen ware, look at the quality of the brass fixtures in the close up pictures. I am happy to do local pickup on this piece because of the size and weight. Please excuse the reflections in the pictures. SIZE: It is huge. It weighs 38 pounds(17Kg) and is approximately 28.5 inches tall. The lid is just over 10.75 inches diameter. That is a full size can of Coca Cola underneath the urn ... morein one of the pictures. To give a sense of scale. CONDITION: It is in as found condition. I have not cleaned it. If it was to be polished I suspect it would look stunning. There is no damage to the glass in either level indicator, and no chips or cracks to the porcelain liner. I see a couple of small shallow dents in the lid- the pen is pointing to one in the close up picture. MARKS: Antique Duparquet. Huot, Moneuse Co. plaque on the front as shown. This early vintage Swedish copper pan& trio of stemmed Black Walnut wooden apples are a nice complimentary pair for decorative display. The deep copper pan was originally a tin-lined cookware piece with a handle. It dates from the late-1920's or early-30's. Its lining has worn, t he handle has been removed. So it's been retired to an appealing decorative piece. The wooden apples are hand-turned from Black Walnut, dating from the 1970's. It is dovetailed together on the side of the handle and on the underside. it has an very large solid/ thick copper handle which is beautifully riveted to the pot with large handmade copper rivets. the pot has a wonderful patina from age, no dents. It would take a lot of force to dent this piece. it has a very slightly rounded bottom to be able to distribute heat better. it is lined inside with a silver or a tin. Could be French, there is a large French-Canadian community in Moncton, NB. I did not find any stamps or markings on the piece but believe it to to be an antique, I've had it for over 20 years. Some dove-tailing can be seen, it appears to be made from one sheet of heavyweight copper that was bent and formed into a"rectangular" shape with seams at bottom end/s, top edge is rolled(please take a close look at all photos) DOES NOT hold water, selling for decorative-use only. If you are purchasing to use you will have to have it mended in one corner where there is a crack along the seam. With original patina, I did not try to clean or polish. The only ... morearea that would attract a magnet was around the rolled rim at top of pan, no-where else. NO LID.
