I will be selling them all on eBay over the next 10 days or so. Please check my other listings for more of these bronzes. I will gladly combine shipping wherever possible. This listing is for a very fine circa 1890’s French Art Nouveau bronze bust of a young beauty with a hat. The piece measures 14 inches or 35.5 cm high. And is 7 inches or 18 cm at its widest. The bronze features a ¾ bust of a beautiful young woman wearing a large brimmed hat. She wears her hair loose and flowing under her hat. She has excellent rendering in her smiling face and hair. Also the details in ... moreher clothes is quite fine. The bronze has a milk chocolate brown patina or color, which is all original to the piece. It is signed on the back“G. VAN DER STRAETEN” this for Georges Van Der Straeten(1856-1928) who was Belgian in descent but lived and worked in Paris for much of his life. He began exhibiting at the Salon in 1885 and produced many portraits and some fanciful busts. There is also a foundry mark on the back for the Societe des Bronzes of Paris. Please reference Bronzes of the 19 th Century by Peter Kjellberg pages 622 and 665. The bronze is in excellent condition. There are minor age appropriate variations to the patina. It is mounted on a pedestal of red marble. It measures 8" high by 4" across at it's widest point. There is a hairline crack that goes all the way around the marble pedestal where a repair may have taken place but as you can see not bad. Also a very small chips on the marble at the front top edge and the back top edge. The bronze itself is in great condition with a nice patina. Antique Bronze or Brass Framed Bust of Woman
A fascinating antique Victorian bronze or brass bas relief of young woman's bust in nearly 3/4 round with unique frame. The sculpted bust. Approximately 4 3/4" wide by 6 1/4" high within a blackened oak frame with metallic- type corner wreaths measuring 7 1/4" by 8 3/4" came out of an excellent estate with some other unusual metal artwork. I would guess that the model was a historical figure but I have no idea who she was or the purpose of the artwork. I believe that the process used was wax and acid, letting the acid wear the background away from the sculpture. I had just the right frame in my collection for such a piece and only had to make slight alterations in the back for it to fit.it has a few chips on the corners. He stares at the beholder. Wild and bold, with an air of spiritual resilience. His hair is adorned with braids that are wrapped with strips of deer hide coated with a turquoise patina. A long feather lost in the back of his hair stretches towards gravity also finished in a turquoise patina. He wears a bone breastplate which was a popular chest ornament or armor. Since the hair-pipe bones were difficult and expensive to obtain, the number of bones in the plate ... moreoften indicated the wealth of a warrior. Such breastplates were worn on occasion in battle, but could be penetrated easily by an arrow or a bullet, so they were mainly a decorative or medicine item. The sculpture was molded using the archaic method of lost-wax casting with skin tones finished in a brown patina stain for perpetuation. This is a rare bronze by a well know French artist Louis Sosson. It is signed on the shoulder L. Sosson. Early Native American sculptures are very sought after and this is a wonderful example. The bronze has a beautiful greenish brown patina that is in good condition. This Indian has wonderful feather headress and is very lifelike. We could only one other example of this bronze ever sold it was in 2009 in Europe for $2796 with an auction estimate of $2200-3500.
