RARE DECO EARLY 1900'S GALVANO BRONZE CLAD MORI COWPUNCHER COWBOY HORSE BOOKENDS
From my personal collection. This is only the second time I have ever seen this set in my many years of collecting. Ultra-rare and are not listed in any leading bookend. Reference books. These are definitely a very early. Paul Mori( Galvano Bronze)set. Before the employees of Paul Mori purchased the company and changed the name to Pompeian Bronze. You can see this by their size because in the early 1900's books and bookends were much smaller. There is also a similar set that is larger and in the same style called" Ridin High" circa 1925. Pompeian did not take over the company until 1920. This set dates from 1905 to 1915. Bronze clad was a very expensive and time consuming process. It required special attention to the amounts of electrical current used and the composition of the plating solution. The molds were first put in hot ... moreparaffin or carnuba wax and left to harden. It was then sprayed with an electrically conductive coating. The piece was then held by a wick and dipped into the plating solution. The mold could stay from just a few hours to a few days. After complete the finishes would vary by subject and then would be sealed with lacquer. The term" Cowpuncher" was first used in 1878 before the common term now days of Cowboy. The word actually had its origin in the days when the railroads started to haul cows from the Plains to the cities of the Midwest and East. A fellow who helped push the cattle onto rail cars by poking them with a long stick.Giving rise to the expression Cowpoke in1881 and Cowprodder. The Cowboy used a prod to keep the cows standing during the railroad journey so that they wouldn’t get trampled. The bookends show the Cowpuncher A.K.A. cowboy sitting atop his trusty horse. The cowboy keeps an eye out across the plains looking after the cows that are shown in the background. The details are really nice and I love the finish. A deep. Dark bronze with faux, verdigris of green highlights throughout. The bookends measure 4 3/4" tall by 4 1/2" wide and weigh 2.12
BEAUTIFUL ART DECO MARION BRONZE 1920'S BRONZE CLAD WORKING DOG CANINE BOOKENDS
These beauties are made by Marion Bronze. Circa 1920. They would have had a label and I have owned this set once before with the label marked"Marion Bronze Metuchen N.J" This has also been confirmed on Chuck Decosta's website" Antique Bookend Collection" Bronze clad was a very expensive and time consuming process. It required special attention to the amounts of electrical current used and the composition of the plating solution. The molds were first put in hot paraffin or carnuba wax and left to harden. It was then sprayed with an electrically conductive coating. The piece was then held by a wick and dipped into the plating solution. The mold could stay from just a few hours to a few days. After complete the finishes would vary by subject and then would be sealed with lacquer. The bookends depict what I think is a ... moreGiant Schnauzer with it's pointed ears. Beard and short, cropped tail. Who knows the artist at Marion Bronze might have even replicated his own dog to live on for generations to come. They are titled"Man's Best Friend" in the leading reference book" Encyclopedia of Bookends" by Kurizky and Decosta. This is a really powerful looking dog. The Giant Schnauzer is in the working group of the AKC. The dog does looks very alert and ready for the hunt. He is anatomically correct male as you can see in the pictures. Each one measures 5 1/4" tall by 7" and weighs 4.8 pounds for the pair unpacked. They are in great condition! Just a little discoloration on the back of one. One tiny rub on the base, and on the same bookend, the ear has been bumped and the clad has buckled a little because of that. It was not broken off and the crack does not go all the way around. These are priced to sell! Free shipping and insurance( don't worry I pack well: to USA only excluding Alaska or Hawaii. International please write for shipping rates. Payment due within 3 days. Beautiful verdigris patina. Measures 8 5/8" tall and the base measures 4.5" square. Inscription reads: Buddy. The original seeing eye dog for the blind, McClelland Barclay. This ... moreGerman Shepherd was the first dog trained by The Seeing Eye. Inc. of Morristown, NJ in 1929. As the story goes, Buddy was actually a female dog whose real name was Kiss. MARION BRONZE VINTAGE SNOW OWLS ART STATUES BOOKENDS SCULPTURED PAINTED
You are looking at a pair of extremely nice and rare Art Deco Bookends from the very early 1920's. This is a pair that is highly regarded amongst collectors and is one of the finest made by the Marion Bronze Company. These are listed in Kuritzky's Bookend reference guide as being made by the Pompeian Bronze Company. Which is true, but they were also produced in 1922 by the Marion Bronze Company- about half a decade prior to the Pompeian variation. What is especially nice about this pair is that it is one of the few original Marion Bronze sets that was recreated by the same company some 30 years later under new ownership. It is easy to distinguish the"old" Marion Bronze pieces from the later pieces by the absence of the"MB" mark; the early 1920-30s pieces did not bear this marking. What is also nice about this pair ... moreis that. Even though these are the oldest, they have been well cared for with only some minor wear indicative of age. Both pieces are splendid and in wonderful condition! The cold painted, bronze clad bodies are smooth and intact all around, and the details are very much lifelike and alive. The feathers are quite large and pronounced, with their lines and curves and original paint. Even the eyes, beaks, and talons were not forgotten and were given equal attention to detail. One owl has some small paint chipping on one brow feathers and there are a few tiny chips but overall this pair are in very nice condition! These beauties are guaranteed to be both genuine deco pieces. The wise birds stand at 8 ½" Tall. 3 ¼" Wide, and 3 ½" Long. You won't find them listed in Kuritzky's Bookend Reference Guide- aside from the Pompeian version mentioned above- but they can be found in the very early Marion Bronze Sales Catalogues. These are indeed rare and hardly ever seen in such great condition. This is your chance to own some truly unique bookends that showcase the age-old symbol of wisdom and knowledge! Take a look at the actual photos below to see w

Hubley Manufacturing was based in Lancaster, PA and is considered one of the most collectible companies of metal arts of the 19th and 20th centuries. Their products were varied and their quality was consistently high. They are especially noted for their toys. The doorstops and bookends they produced are all highly sought after. This set is particularly rare and highly collectible because it is solid bronze where most of their production would have been cast iron.
Antique 1920's art deco ROARING bookends ARMOR BRONZE feline big cat sculpture
Original pair of antique bookends featuring a big cat roaring. Possibly a tiger, by Armor Bronze Company, NYC circa 1925. This very rare pair of original bookend featuring a Big Cat roaring in an aggressive stance. These were made by the Armor Bronze Company at their original New York City location. This set is high quality and very detailed. Each bookend stands 5" tall, 7" long, 3" wide and weighs 2 lbs. 2 oz. 4 lbs. 4 oz. for the pair) They are in very good condition with a gorgeous rich patina. Authenticity is assured as both still have the original felt bottoms and original Armor Bronze, New York City paper labels. These antique bookends were made using the much coveted and highly collectible bronze-clad method of production which utilized electricity via an electrode built into the plaster mold of the subject piece. There ... morewas a lot of preparation work involved. Bronze was then electroformed onto the plaster mold. This was extremely innovative in the early 1900’s. Unfortunately, it was also very costly for labor and materials. Some bookends could take as long as three days to be completed. Almost all of the companies went bankrupt. However, they created some of the most detailed and sought after bookends we have today. They're getting quite scarce to find in good condition since they are somewhat fragile. Extremely rare. Huge, heavy, signed, high quality pair of antique bookends featuring a bull charging. This set was made by Kathodian Bronze Works. Circa 1918. Authenticity is assured as both are incised with the artist's name: DEAN, KBW, and, ART BRONZ. Kathodian Bronze Works was one of just a handful of companies who produced metal arts using the process known as bronze-clad which created very high quality pieces primarily in the early part of the 20th century. The bronze-clad method in the 1920's was highly innovative. It was an early electroform process which created some of the most outstanding bookends ... moreof that era. The process entailed placing a rod(electrode) inside a plaster mold and then using electricity to form a bronze shell around the piece. Some of these products could take up to three days to complete. The cost of time and labor was excessive. None of the foundries survived. However, today, these pieces are greatly treasured and considered show pieces in the homes of collectors.

Antique Art Armor Bronze Bookends Signed J.A. Meliodon Greek Sculpture Nude Male
Hello and thank you for stopping by our auction! We have a little bit of everything. And usually a little something for everyone! Most all of our items come from estate sales and auctions, but some items are our own belongings no longer needed. We love all things old, unique and different and even a few that are strange or down right weird! Please note* we typically use the shipping calculator and we've noticed that several times the shipping calculator is charging more for shipping than needed. If you EVER question the shipping charge being shown, PLEASE contact us so we can give an accurate quote. DESCRIPTION: This set of bookends are absolutely gorgeous! These are antique bookends. From about 1928, so they are not new items. But they are in very nice condition. No chips, knicks or cracks. They are made of bronze-clad, and have a green ... morefelt bottom, that felt has worn over the years. I'll say they show normal usage wear, but other than what I've listed, there is nothing of damage to them. I'm told that this sculpture is"Sisyphus- the King of Corinth" in the Greek Mythology world. The story behind it is something about his rolling a boulder uphill and due to his deceitful behavior. He was destined to repeat it forever.for some reason I don't think I have the story completely correct, so don't quote me on that part: They are signed by J.A. Meliodon. And they have a makers mark as well, which I've tried to show pictures of all the markings. One has a makers sticker on the bottom as well, but it was torn, you can still full read it, and that says.THE ARMOR BRONZE CORPORATION NEW YORK CITY ARMOR BRONZE. These two bookends are just beautiful. They each measure 8 1/2" high x 6" wide x 3 1/2" deep. Gorgeous pieces to add to a collection. Even better set to start your new collection! Shipping: Most likely this item will ship via UPS or Fedex. However, if you have a preference for shipping please let us know in the comment section of your payment, we are more than happy

Check out my other items! Extremely Rare Early Bronze Clad Matched Bookends Auction Description: National Metalizing Co/Armor Bronze Mfg 1914-1948"The Flight" 1918 This wonderful Native American set is guaranteed to be one of earliest and oldest of all known original National Metalizing Co. sets and better known later as the Armor Bronze Manufacturing Co. This set is the perfect example of early L-Shaped bronze clad issue. These have a wonderful and near pristine bronze clad finish with aged verdigris and bold chocolate patina. This set has not been listed in any price guide as of this date and would be considered extremely rare and especially considering their wonderful near flawless condition. I would venture to say this set was produced very close to. But earlier than“The Harpist” which was one of the earliest signed issues with ... morethe Armor Bronze name and date. Only a few productions by National Metalizing were signed and none that I have ever seen in my 45 years of collecting had the foil type label displayed later by Armor Bronze. Armor Bronze collectors will absolutely love this adorable set. Description: This bronze clad set depicts an American Indian Brave more than likely ready to mount his horse in readiness to take flight from either battle or some type of immediate danger. Some have summorized this set has a depiction of the overall"Flight" or movement of the American Indian away from the influx of foreign immigrants who were taking over the Indians home lands. The set was titled by the artist as“The Flight” so it is obvious the brave is fleeing from some type of danger. This L-shaped is very simplistic on the back side but very ornate on the fronts. The top is adorned with ribbon like scrolling leading down to the title box containing the words“The Flight” The bareback horse is rearing and contained by the Indian holding the reins in his left hand and full length spear in his right. Antique Pompeian Bronze Bookends Angels Mary Easter Art Deco
This is a gorgeous pair of Pompeian Bronze Bookends. The Pompeian Bronze company was based in Brooklyn. NY and made bronze clad bookends, lamps and more. The company was in business until I believe around 1930. This particular pair of bookends has what I believe is called a polychrome finish. There is a sticker on the felt covered bottom of the bookends that reads: Made By Master Craftsmen Pompeian Bronze. Stickers are red and gold They stand approximately 5 and 1/2 inches tall and are about 5 inches wide. They depict what I believe to be a religious scene but being that their are 3 faces on the bookends I am unsure if they are supposed to be Mary and Baby Jesus as I do not know whom the cherubic 3rd face would belong to. I did research the pair but came up empty when trying to find this exact pair. It appears that above the"Mary" ... moreand the third person that there are halos above their heads and a cross in the background on the right hand side. I have not cleaned or polished these so they are in the original condition I acquired them in and they do have some wear/damage as seen in the photos. It would appear that this was most likely caused from either books rubbing against the clad bronze or from them being stacked. They weigh about 1 pound 11 oz's each. These are lovely pieces.
