PAIR of FINE ANTIQUE BRONZE ORIENTAL VASES or URNS RAISED BIRD FLORA & FAUNA
Here is a pair of fine antique Asian bronze vases or urns. Most likely Japanese or Chinese. Each features a motif of raised birds, tree limbs, flowers and leaves with clouds above the scene. Top neck features a raised design with a diamond patterned rim edge. The color is a deep and dark brown with scattered green patination to a dark chocolate brown near bases and top rim. There is a very minor impact mark to the flared area near bases(unnoticable without very close inspection) with minor impacts at the base rim, otherwise both are in VERY FINE +++ condition and much nicer than pictured. The detailing is fantastic with a great nature subject matter. Each measures just over 10" high with 6 3/4" wide top openings. I believe these date pre 1900 and are both unmarked. Here is an antique Vienna bronze sculpture of a partridge bird I am quite sure that is the type of bird that this is. At first I thought it was a pheasant. But a kind ebayer emailed me to advise me that he thought it was either a pheasant or a grouse. So I looked at pictures of both on the internet and to me it looks very much like a partridge. There is some original coloring on it. But not much. It is in excellent condition. And overall measures 3.55" high. I found no markings or signature on it. It has NO repairs. NO breaks, NO cracks. Noted for his detailed and colorful work, and usually signed with the word: Geschutzt" His father Franz Bergmann was a professional chaser from Gablonz/Bohemia who came to Vienna and founded a small bronze factory in 1860. This adorable bird exhibits the fine craftsmanship of Austrian artisans who made cold-painted bronze figurines. Unfortunately. This bird is missing its legs and feet; and it has chipped paint. Be advised that the eye on the other side of the bird's head had chipped paint. Hopefully someone will be able to repair this or find a new purpose for this item. This bird weighs 8oz. It is 4.5" long(from the tip of the beak to the tip of the tail) The bottom of the tail is marked, GESCHUTZT" and there are numbers underneath. This is what I believe to be a Meiji period urn of vase top. Cast well in bronze with fine detail. The lucky clouds and the sparrow could also be indicative of an incense burner top. Regardless. These piece stands well by itself and talk about upcycling. There is some damage to the piece that can be seen in the close ups. The top stands 7 1/4" from base to the head of the sparrow, the widest part is 4 3/4" in diameter. The sparrow is 3 1/2" long.

Measures 5 and 1/2 inches tall and 6 inches across(hoof to hoof) No markings anywhere that I can see. It is a heavy heavy metal and I saw one similar on eBay that was described as Asian and Bronze. However I know nothing about this items history. There is a small line of white marker or paint on one side that hopefully can be removed but I will leave that to someone who knows the proper way of cleaning. The patina is so pretty. Magnificent Antique Austrian Cold Painted Bronze Inkwell c.1900 - Bird
An absolutely stunning inkwell and an unusual find too. The cut glass inkwell is made from iridescent glass showcasing an array of colours and sits in a brass base. The collar and lid of the inkwell is also made from polished brass. On top of this sits a wonderful Austrian Cold Painted Bronze bird in flight. Perhaps a Kingfisher? The bird has two tiny inset glass eyes, quite wonderful. Dating to around 1900, this desk-top gem is in excellent condition. 7th C. Etruscan bronze small tray with dead bird motif, Pre-1800, trays
This auction is for a 7th century Etruscan bronze tray with a scalloped edge and a central"dead bird" motif. Note the exquisite detail of the high relief image of the bird. As well as the bed of leaves. The Etruscans were known to be expert metalsmiths, especially when working in bronze. The Etruscans were an ancient people who preceded the Romans and thrived in Etruria, which is now known as Tuscany. To date, their ancient language has never been translated or deciphered. This piece has its original, untouched dark patina with verdigris. Recently, several Etruscan bronze objects sold at Christie's for $7,000.00-$13,000.00 each. Don't let this one slip away from you. Up for auction is a superb antique French Empire figural bronze bowl in the form of a seashell chariot lead by a swan with a winged cupid at the helm. Beautiful detail. There are raised flowers and rays inside the bowl. Twisted rope reins, figural gnarled branch foot, and acanthus leaf skirt. It is in very good condition with normal signs of age. The bird perches and preens his right wing and feathers. The sculpture is a beautiful display of hand chased surface detail. Patination and colour; it is signed, Pautrot. Sculpture surface is original, an untouched aged patina. Where famous artists as Franz Cizek and Michael Powolny were among his teachers. Under the direction of Josef Hoffmann he designed for the Wiener Werkstätte. In the 1920ies and 30ies he worked for well-known factories like Goldscheider, Augarten or Metzler+Ortloff. Additionally Walter Bosse designed for his own ceramic workshop which he founded 1919 in Kufstein. A sales store for these objects existed in the Viennese Hotel Bristol. As a consequence of the economic recession he was forced to close his workshop in 1937. After World War II he moved to Germany and designed. This parakeet exists in two different versions- a yellow one looking to the left and a blue one looking to the right. For this reason I also offer it as a couple in my other listings. This listing is for the yellow bird only. The item is not marked at the bottom(as there is no proper place for the stamp) But it is 100% authentic and comes with a signed certificate. This item is 58mm wide and 42mm tall. As these figurines are still manufactured and painted by hand, small variations in detail or color, to the pictured object, are normal. Each item will be delivered in a velvet pouch together with a certificate by the manufacturer. About the production of these miniatures- the"Lost Wax Method" The actual material of the object is Brass. I think these figurines were called"Vienna Bronze" because Brass was not that well known as Bronze. Achieving such a high level of detail on a rather small figurine requires a very complex and time intensive production process: Usually it starts with a rubber mould. Liquid Brass would destory the rubber and for this reason the figurine is in the first step casted out of wax. The wax figurine is used to prepare a negative made of some kind of plaster or clay: In a very special technique one or more wax figurines get placed inside a container. All that is covered with plaster or clay. The mould is dried and fired. This way the clay is getting hard while the wax is melting. A hollow space is created- the negative. This negative gets filled with liquid Brass. When the Brass is cooled down. It gets hard. The plaster around the brass core can be broken off and the figurines made of Brass are the desired result.
