Antique Cast Iron Nutcracker Gold Colored Dog Standing For Your Nutcrackers Collection or to Use Around Your Home Details Description: Antique and rather substantial cast iron nutcracker shaped as a dog standing. The entire piece is colored in gold and is screwed to a rectangular base. The dog's mouth is opened by raining its tail. The nut is inserted in the mouth and the tail is then lowered to open the nut. The inside of the mouth has ribbing or raised casting to ensure the nut does not slip. The casting shows nice details of the dog's face and body. This is a very nice piece and is rather interesting and would make a great discussion piece or addition to your collection. This piece is in very good condition and From nose to Tail it is 13& 1/4 in long. The height is close to 6 in The width of the base is over 2& 1/2 in. and the weight of this piece is over 5 lbs. My Grandmother had this piece sitting in a display cabinet for years and we do know it was purchased in the 1940's other then that I do not know much more about this Nut Cracker.

Up for adoption is a 1929 rare BEAUTIFUL two-piece piece set of Boston Bull Terrier Dog Bookends claiming the highest rarity rating of 5 in the professional collectors book. Designed by an early 19th century foundry licensed artist for the Verona Foundry, Me& My Doghouse' is marked Verona on the bottom back left of both pieces which you can faintly see in the photo's. During this era many of the foundry's sold their bookends as individuals and advertised that they can have a dual purpose as a doorstop so these are large enough to use as 2 doorstops should you choose. The Bookends are very heavy, cast iron under bronze coating. This pair has a fabulous matching patina and has an aged felt bottom. This is a fantastic antique cast iron dog nut cracker with a mechanical mouth that opens when the tail is lifted. It weighs 4 1/2 pounds and is in very good original working condition and nothing is broken. There are some areas that the original gold paint is still visible(the part of the tail that rests inside the dog but is visible when the tail is lifted. Uncommon Antique Solid Cast Iron Small Size Heavy Doorstop Beautiful Puppy Dog For Your Antique Cast Iron Doorstop Collection. Details Description: Antique heavy(3 pounds and 9 Ounces) but rather small in size(5 1/2" long and 4 1/2" high) cast iron doorstop. the doorstop is cast in the form of a cute puppy(not certain of the breed) dog. The puppy is standing on all four with its head turned left towards you. The puppy has a very muscular body suggesting possibly some sort of a bull dog but has a much cuter face and droopy ears suggesting possibly another breed? Its head is straight looking and its ears are drooped over its head. The dog is colored in cream off-white and black colors. The details of the dog's face are very well cast so you can see its eyes. And mouth in red. Look at the wrinkles around the eyes and nose. The ... morepuppy is wearing a red studded collar around its neck and has a short tail. The doorstop is made of one piece of solid of cast iron and as such is completely solid and rather heavy for its size. The piece appears to be all original but has lost quite a bit of its original paint. This however does not affect its looks but rather gives it great character. Again, this is a smaller size doorstop than you would normally see, but has the weight to stop any door you may think of. We have attempted to research this doorstop but were unable to identify any similar doorstop in our books or the internet, which leads us to conclude that this is a rather unusual or uncommon piece. Please view photos as they are part and parcel of the description. Date: Uncertain. But most likely early to mid 1900s Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania. This auction is for an antique solid cast iron Sealyham terrier? dog bookend or doorstop. I am sure this is a repaint. But an older repaint with wear from use over time. There is lettering casted on the front of the base portion but I can't make it out. I have tried to photograph hoping someone else can make it out. I keep seeing Dorothy-B but that makes no sense. The doorstop measures approximately 4-3/4" high, 5-1/2" wide, 2" deep and weighs about 3 lbs 12 oz. Good used condition- some paint wear. I am not an expert so please ask questions.
