A really unusual inkwell in beautifully polished bronze. Having been professionally re-polished to gleam, by my silversmith. The inkwell is actually in the form of a Cauldron supported by three crossed dip pens appearing like a campfire. Underneath in the centre of the base, is a set classical Wedgwood or Jasperware plaque. The inkwell contains a removable glass liner, for easy refilling and cleaning. A handsome and most unusual piece with a base diameter measuring 6 1/2" x 7" tall. A few minuscule dints, insignificant and mentioned purely for accuracy. Excellent condition. Antique Benjamin Franklin Bronze Relief Plaque
Winner gets an antique Benjamin Franklin bronze relief plaque in perfect condition. Although I am unsure of the exact age. I know this is an antique piece and not a new replica. It came out of a great upstate New York 1800's estate. There are no cracks, damage, or repairs. It has a nice patina consistent with it's old age. It measures roughly 8" x 10" and weighs in at a hefty 3.5 pounds. I'm not quite sure what this plaque was for, as there are 2 small holes in the upper left and right corners only. OK. I lied- not a bookend. But I wanted to get this in front of the community that knows and appreciates bronze clad decorative objects. I have uploaded new pictures in this re-listing. No flash was used. An absolutely stunning picture/ wall hanging/ plaque of a Colonial-era domestic hearth scene. Detail is incredible. Can be hung on the wall or displayed on a stand as a tabletop art piece. Electro-formed by Galvano Bronze as can be seen in their identifying label that actually is formed into the back: Galvano Bronze The S.C. Tarrant Co.Inc. New York. Also formed into the backs are the eye loops for the hanging wire. Probably 19-teens, certainly no later than the early 1920s. Condition is superb. No damage whatsoever within the art scene. The frame. Too, is in excellent shape, only the top right corner the very smallest bit mashed. The back ... morehas 2 little round holes and some small dents/breaks in the cladding immediately under the wrapped wire next to the eye loops- completely invisible unless you go looking for it. I see now I did not include a picture of the bottom edge of the frame, but it is in as fine shape as the other edges. Best of all. The paint is original and almost entirely intact. Colors are still vibrant and alive. This piece obviously has been cared for lovingly for almost 100 years. It is rare and it is beautiful. Apparently) Art Nouveau style wall plaque featuring a lovely young lady amongst highly detailed flora, fauna, etc. The central circular area with the lady does not attact a magnet. The surrounding circular border and the entire back side do attract a magnet so are probably copper or bronze-plated iron or steel. The plaque measures about 12 5/8" diameter. It is in excellent condition with no significant issues. There are a few very minimal dings to outside edge. Patina and coloration are excellent. The central circular area with the lady is able to rotate within the outer ... morecircular area so can be adjusted a bit if needed. There are some minor surface marks on the back side. There is a loop for hanging. Currently has some wire between two feet for hanging. I have not found a maker's mark on this piece. Antique Victorian Al. Goulart Bronze Plaque 1896 in picture frame
Offered for auction is this spectacular large Bronze plaque/wall hanging signed Al. Goulart 1896. The very large and heavy plaque has been mounted in a picture frame with a light above with the cloth covering of the frame in tatters. Would be so much nicer to clean up the frame and just have it be natural wood or put another colorful piece of velvet back on to the frame. The piece weighs 100 lbs. and I have never had it on the wall fearing it would rip out the wall and fall to the floor. The subject is a lovely little girl with amazingly detailed features and hair ringlets and dress and holding a very large and imposing flower arrangement. It looks like the girl is sitting in a window of Gothic design(see closeup pic 5) and it is possible this is a mourning bronze intended to be affixed to a mausoleum or something of that nature. The detail ... moreis exquisite and this is probably a first or at least one of the first castings done because of the clarity and detail in the bronze. I have found no foundry marks but have not taken some of the mechanism off the back that holds the bronze in place. Could be some marks there. Also. A computer search of the name Al. Goulart resulted in no finds. This is a spectacular bronze and would be a stunning centerpiece for any foyer, living room or other place in your home. I purchased this years ago at an auction. It was represented as a bronze from the 1700-1800's from England. It is a beautiful piece that measures about 8.5" round and has a depth of about 1.75" The cherubs are beautiful and I have received many compliments on this item. There is writing on the back that is very aged that says"Bronze plaque repouacee' decoration of 3 cherubs. England. Ca 1800. I do not see any makers mark but also would not know where to look for one. Its a very heavy piece for its size and shows little signs of wear. 100% feedback rating, bid with confidence. An awesome rare find this morning at a local Flea Market. Somewhat ironic that the piece was found in a Church Bazar knowing Falloux was actually ex-communicated by the Bishop of Angers in 1876. The bronze plaque rests in a nicely carved piece of Victorian oak. The frame measures 11 1/2 inches square. The solid bronze plaque disc measures 8 inches in diameter. I was able to photograph the inside of the plaque by removing 3 tiny nails which held in it place. Originally the plaque would probably been cemented in place judging by the dust particles found inside the details of the plaque. The inscription reads"Alfred de Falloux. Nee a Angers le 7 Mai 1811. Antique Auguste Cain BRONZE Sculpture Plaque Chicken Rooster Dead Game birds Fly
If you appreciate the Victorian era. You will LOVE this bronze signed sculptural wall placque by Auguste Cain. This antique piece is from Cain's earlier years when he would produce smaller bronze figurines of barnyard animals, sometimes with a whimsical slant. In this plaque, we see two slaughtered game birds hanging from pegs and there are flies on the wall around the birds. This is just such a typical subject matter of the late 1800's in Europe, done by an extremely talented sculptor whose father-in-law was P.J. Mene. The detail is amazing. You can see the feathers. The lines in the feet, the pegs in the rack at the top protrude from the plaque. The wing of the bird on the right hand side stands up nearly 1.5" from the background. You can see the veining in the fly's wings(bottom left of the piece) There is a second, smaller ... morefly at the top crawling on the herbs tucked into the rack at the top. This bronze is signed with the correct"A. Cain" engraved into the lower right hand side. The entire piece is about 10.5" long x about 5" wide. It is extremely heavy for its size. At over 2.25 pounds. Someone had soldered a ring to the back at some point so it will be easy for you to hang it in your kitchen or near the fireplace in the den. There are no cracks or repairs to this amazing bronze. This is a cast bronze or copper plaque or bas relief of President Lincoln. Signed and monogrammed(in reverse) by listed sculptor Randolph Johnson. There is a 7 and a 0 on either side of his name, so it may have been completed in 1970. Not sure. The solid wood plaque measures 15-1/2 x 12 x 1-1/2 inch deep. The face measures 11 inches long and 9-3/4 inches wide. The following information comes from Askart: A sculptor of allegorical figures. Illustrator and craftsperson, Randolph Johnston, born in Toronto, Canada, he was also a long-time teacher at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. This is a Antique Plaque Showing a Sniper. I don't know anything about it. I believe it is bronze but am not positive. It has a patina that can only come from age. Its diameter is 5 inches. The detail is exquisite and portrays a woman in flowing robes holding a sheaf of wheat in her arms and a scythe in her hand. There is a small child pulling at her robes and showing her the birds nest. Containing 3 little chicks that he has found. Jean Baptiste Germain was well known for his allegorical work and this piece very much represents the harvest. It is marked at the bottom right: Germain JB 1867. On the left it is marked L Oudray Pre. Editeur. Which shows that the plaque was cast by the foundry of L. Oudray in Paris. The plaque is framed ... morein a black stucco Napoleon 111 frame. Frame measures 8 3/4" X 5 3/4" The bronze piece measures 4" X 1-1 1/4" I have no provenance on this piece. it appears to be some kind of coat of arms. If you look closely you can easily see the impressed face on the shield. Also a stylized fish(I think) on the upper part next to a weapon of some sort. there is a hunting horn and an arrow.
