Description This impeccably rendered 100% bronze high quality reproduction will satisfy even the most serious of art collectors. The bronze sculpture ... moreis carved as a limited addition(numbered) with the utmost precision and attention to detail. It is situated on a stunning sea green. Circular, multi-tiered marble base as a complimentary and distinguished finishing touch. Photographs do not serve justice to this larger than life museum quality piece. An art work of this quality and distinction is rare to find outside of museums or select high end galleries. An original carving of this caliber would sell at upscale auctions for thousands of dollars. About the original sculpture The stunning and highly detailed reproduction after Pierre Jules Mene(French 1810-1879) is titled“Scotch Hunter and Hound” The sculpture depicts a Scotsman smugly grasping the defeated fox by the scruff of its neck. The Scotsman wears a traditional national kilt and hat while holding a hunting tool in his right hand. His highly ornate garments including the prevalent belt. Round jacket buttons, a long scarf draped around his shoulders and waist, and high lace up boots yield an exceedingly illustrious and commanding presence. An expression of simultaneous pride and intense focus may be visible by his crinkled forehead and stoic eyes. His faithful companion sits by his feet while taking in the essence of the fox in anticipation of a possible future meal. This larger than life bronze carving tells a compelling story and transforms every character to life. Bring this highly decorative and distinctive masterpiece into your surroundings to be enjoyed for generations to come. 100% bronze hot cast by lost wax method guaranteed. Statue is signed. Very Old Bronze - Cast Mark - P. J. Mene
This listing is for a bronze casting of two Wolfhounds on the Hunt. By Pierre Jules Mêne(25 March 1810– 20 May 1879) He was a French Sculptor and animaliere. He is considered the pioneer of animal sculpture in the nineteenth-century. Original pieces can be worth tens of thousands, and old re-casting are also quite valuable. This may not be an original, but the patina is deep and well developed and the cast Mene signature is clean, and fairly crisp. It is probably an an early recast, but a real expert will know. I bought this at an antique auction at Leslie Hindeman Auctioneers in Chicago about 30 years ago. Good photos are attached The Bronze alone, not including the marble, is 9 1/4" tall and 9 3/4" wide. In centimeters it is 24 x 25.5 Mêne produced a number of animal sculptures, mainly of domestic animals including horses, ... moredog, bulls, sheep and goats which were in vogue during the Second Empire Period in France. Hunting scenes were popular and this one showing two very excited Wolfhounds is a classic example. This has a very nice and well aged patina and a good mark. The marble base is also very nice and undamaged. The felt under the marble needs to be replaced as the old glue is giving way.
