He stares at the beholder. Wild and bold, with an air of spiritual resilience. His hair is adorned with braids that are wrapped with strips of deer hide coated with a turquoise patina. A long feather lost in the back of his hair stretches towards gravity also finished in a turquoise patina. He wears a bone breastplate which was a popular chest ornament or armor. Since the hair-pipe bones were difficult and expensive to obtain, the number of bones in the plate often indicated the wealth of a warrior. Such breastplates were worn on occasion in battle, but could be penetrated easily by an arrow or a bullet, so they were mainly a decorative or medicine item. The sculpture was molded using the archaic method of lost-wax casting with skin tones finished in a brown patina stain for perpetuation. The chief is mounted upon a black marble and is signed C.M Russell The process of bringing a bronze sculpture to life using the lost-wax method is something you'll appreciate after taking this tour- Enjoy. Here Artist original clay sculpture is nearly ready for the foundry. Note the artist is still adding the finishing touches. Most sculptors prefer to work with clay or wax; some however. Do use wood and other mediums. Here the finished original clay is now complete. The sculptor will take it to the foundry now, get a bid then begin the first stages of the lost wax process. The first step can be shocking for some as they begin to decide how this original will be cut up. In order to prepare the original clay sculpture for molding. Rare CWS Biscuit Tin with Native American Scenes This CWS biscuit tin from the early 1900s doesn’t pop up too often. It’s beautifully decorated with Native American Indian scenes. I believe it dates to the 1900 to 1910 timeframe. But could be later. Noticeable antique wear and patina includes some small areas of wear. Some scratches and scuffs, some handling marks and normal vintage soiling, some small dents and dings, some small marks and stains, etc. Lid is more worn than base, particularly around edges, with lid lip totally worn. The lid can be popped in and out. With a noticeable dip/dent when popped down. There’s a noticeable dent on one end. Three corners on lid lip are split. Some surface rust on the interior. Bottom is dark with patina. Hinge is firmly in place and moves freely. Lid would like to stay slightly ajar. Needs some coaxing ... moreto open and close. Again. Condition issues of note: Noticeable wear and patina. L id pops in and out. Dents inward when popped in. Noticeable dent on one end. Lid is more worn than base. Lid lip totally worn. This is a rare bronze by a well know French artist Louis Sosson. It is signed on the shoulder L. Sosson. Early Native American sculptures are very sought after and this is a wonderful example. The bronze has a beautiful greenish brown patina that is in good condition. This Indian has wonderful feather headress and is very lifelike. We could only one other example of this bronze ever sold it was in 2009 in Europe for $2796 with an auction estimate of $2200-3500. Here is a stunning Indian sculpture made by Gregory S. Allen. The detail is incredible. I believe it was clad in Bronze at one time as it has Bronze around the lower portion. It is signed with his signature which I have shown. He lived from 1884 to 1934 and did many bookends. Sculptures etc. This measures 6.5" tall and is 6.5" across. I do not know the name of this particular sculpture. I have looked high and low so if anyone knows please share. Please feel free to ask any questions. Thanks for looking! There bookends are made of heavy cast steel with a heavy coat of brass plating that is oxidized to enhance the detail of the chiefs image and headdress. The bookends are 4” tall and 4” wide. Bronze Dimensions with Marble Base:Height 15.5" x Width 10" Marble Dimensions: 8" X 6" Height without base: 14.5" Weight: 20 LBS Inventory: 27YRD9129772 This is an exquisite bronze bust of a Native American warrior chief. He stares at the beholder. Wild and bold, with an air of spiritual resilience. His hair is adorned with braids. He wears a custom Jewelry which was a popular chest ornament or armor. Such breastplates were worn on occasion in battle, but could be penetrated easily by an arrow or a bullet, so they were mainly a decorative or medicine item. The sculpture was molded using the archaic method of lost-wax casting with skin tones finished in a brown ... morepatina stain for perpetuation. The chief is mounted upon a black marble and is signed by artist Milo. The Art of Lost Wax. Lost wax casting has been around for thousands of years. Yet few people understand how the process actually works. Although mechanization has facilitated the lost wax process of bronze casting. The procedure is basically the same as that used by the Chinese when they first developed the process in the 2nd millennium BC. The Rubber Mold. First the artist creates an original sculpture out of any number of media. Including stone, wax, clay, wood and pottery. This image is coated with a silicone rubber molding material that makes two rubber mold halves(each rubber mold has a front and a back piece) A fiberglass outer shell is added to the back of each mold so it retains its shape and rigidity during subsequent uses. These molds are the only components that are ever re-used in the casting process. All other components are re-created for each casting. The Wax Positive. Once the molds are done. They consist of a wood colored resin ashtray marked Mt Garfield-Grand Junction CO featuring an Indian Chief with peace pipe and a pair of salt& pepper shakers(a chief and his wife holding her child) of the same resin-type material and marked Estes Park. In real nice vintage USED condition and ready for your collection. The ash tray is about 11 inches long x 4 inches high and the s&p set about 3 inches tall.
