This set is known as"Aphrodite, ca. 1928, Galvano Bronze, bronze clad, 6 1/2 inches, rarity ... more5" As you can see in the photos, a beautiful patina has developed, and they have retained their beautiful luster. RARE DECO EARLY 1900'S GALVANO BRONZE CLAD MORI COWPUNCHER COWBOY HORSE BOOKENDS
From my personal collection.This is only the second time I have ever seen this set in my many years of collecting. Ultra-rare and are not listed in any leading bookend. Reference books. These are definitely a very early. Paul Mori( Galvano Bronze)set. Before the employees of Paul Mori purchased the company and changed the name to Pompeian Bronze. You can see this by their size because in the early 1900's books and bookends were much smaller. There is also a similar set that is larger and in the same style called" Ridin High" circa 1925. Pompeian did not take over the company until 1920. This set dates from 1905 to 1915. Bronze clad was a very expensive and time consuming process. It required special attention to the amounts of electrical current used and the composition of the plating solution. The molds were first put in hot ... moreparaffin or carnuba wax and left to harden. It was then sprayed with an electrically conductive coating. The piece was then held by a wick and dipped into the plating solution. The mold could stay from just a few hours to a few days. After complete the finishes would vary by subject and then would be sealed with lacquer. The term" Cowpuncher" was first used in 1878 before the common term now days of Cowboy. The word actually had its origin in the days when the railroads started to haul cows from the Plains to the cities of the Midwest and East. A fellow who helped push the cattle onto rail cars by poking them with a long stick.Giving rise to the expression Cowpoke in1881 and Cowprodder. The Cowboy used a prod to keep the cows standing during the railroad journey so that they wouldn’t get trampled. The bookends show the Cowpuncher A.K.A. cowboy sitting atop his trusty horse. The cowboy keeps an eye out across the plains looking after the cows that are shown in the background. The details are really nice and I love the finish. A deep. Dark bronze with faux, verdigris of green highlights throughout. The bookends measure 4 3/4" tall by 4 1/2" wide and weigh 2.12

OK. I lied- not a bookend. But I wanted to get this in front of the community that knows and appreciates bronze clad decorative objects. I have uploaded new pictures in this re-listing. No flash was used. An absolutely stunning picture/ wall hanging/ plaque of a Colonial-era domestic hearth scene. Detail is incredible. Can be hung on the wall or displayed on a stand as a tabletop art piece. Electro-formed by Galvano Bronze as can be seen in their identifying label that actually is formed into the back: Galvano Bronze The S.C. Tarrant Co.Inc. New York. Also formed into the backs are the eye loops for the hanging wire. Probably 19-teens, certainly no later than the early 1920s. Condition is superb. No damage whatsoever within the art scene. The frame. Too, is in excellent shape, only the top right corner the very smallest bit mashed. The back ... morehas 2 little round holes and some small dents/breaks in the cladding immediately under the wrapped wire next to the eye loops- completely invisible unless you go looking for it. I see now I did not include a picture of the bottom edge of the frame, but it is in as fine shape as the other edges. Best of all. The paint is original and almost entirely intact. Colors are still vibrant and alive. This piece obviously has been cared for lovingly for almost 100 years. It is rare and it is beautiful. Large, classic set featuring a nude male climbing a rock ledge while carrying a large rectangular slab. Each bookend stands 7 1/4" tall, 4" wide, 3 1/4" deep and weighs over 3 lbs. They are in very good condition. This set still has the label from the store who sold it. These antique bookends were made using the much coveted and highly collectible bronze-clad method of production which utilized electricity via an electrode built into the plaster mold of the subject piece. This is a lovely pair of rare bookends featuring an Asian boy and girl. Both bookends have the backplates formed as books. The girl is sitting against the book holding a book she is reading on her bent knees. The boy is kneeling. Has his elbows resting on the backplate with his head in his hands daydreaming. A wonderful old, original set. Each bookend stands 5 3/8" tall(4 3/8" for the girl) 3 1/4" long, 2 1/2" wide and weighs almost 2 lbs. 4 lbs. for the pair) They are in good condition with some finish loss and dings. A pair of reading monks. The monk wears a simple red robe with his rosary or prayer beads falling from his lap to the base of the bookend.
