Oriental Brass Table- Twin Tiers- Circa 1930's This Art Deco period brass tray table is in decent condition for its age. It has heavy patina on the ... moreback of both brass trays. There is patina around all of the sides of the brass and in spots on the carved scenes. The wooden stand is in very good condition. It has some patina on the metal hinges. One of the legs has a missing supporting piece(about a 1 inch long little piece of wood) This piece can use some heavy cleaning. This table would have supported a lamp. This lamp is not included. Pleasingly solid brass trays are supported by a folding base to produce a two tier table. The piece is suitable both for permanent location or as on occasional table. When in folded position the table assumes very little space and can be slid under a sofa or such; in addition the gorgeous solid trays may be used on their own for serving and display purposes. The base is a six leg folding design with dragons head carvings to the upper. The trays display wonderful scense with floral and foliate detailing to the perimeter and a central engraving featuring oriental characters in traditional dress. Overall this peice of furniture is in good condition and will make a great addition to any setting. 20" tall approximately 17" width 10" wide lower tray 14" wide upper tray We are a non-profit store and this was a donation. We are fairly certain this is not a reproduction piece and is truly from the 1930's. We do not know much about this piece except for a previous Ebay listing of a very similar item that sold in the UK in Sept. 2012. Please feel free to email us if you have any information about this piece.

His work countered the mass-produced patterns of the period. The exhibition included wall papers, textiles, carpets, furniture, tiles, tapestries, stained glass, and illustrated books. Dr. Stephen F. Eisenman, Professor of Art History at Occidental College, Los Angeles, has written an informative essay dealing with Morris’s art and politics. The Tobey brothers, Charles and Frank, were leaders in the Chicago business community and in the national furniture industry. This book provides not only an illustrated 38-page history of the Tobey Furniture Company, but also provides for the first time unabridged reprints of Tobey's 1900 New Furniture catalogue, Tobey's 1901 New Furniture in Weathered Oak catalogue, and Tobey's 1903 Russmore Furniture catalogue. Description: Title: AMERICAN ARTS& CRAFTS- VIRTUE IN DESIGN- A Catalogue of the Palevsky/Evans Collection and Related Works at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art Author: Leslie Greene Bowman Publisher: Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Los Angeles, California Copyright Date and Edition: 1990. Stated First Edition ISBN: 0875871526 Exhibition: LACMA. 1990-91 Pages: 256 pages Format. Size: Softcover. 9" by 12" Language: English Illustrations: 190 full-color photographs. And 275 black-and-white illustrations"This large format. Beautifully illustrated book features the decorative arts of the American Arts and Crafts Movement. Influenced by developments in Europe, American proponents in the late 19th and early 20th centuries successfully promoted the"minor arts" as fine art. These pieces were hand wrought by individual ... morecraftsmen. Extolling the virtues of everyday objects and returning to honest, simple, forthright materials and workmanship. Ironically, most products were actually hybrids made by many hands and often by machines as well. Still the designs are perhaps the closest embodiment we have of an American style. Represented here are the finest expressions of the movement. Based on the Palevsky/Evans Collection. One of the most comprehensive private arts and crafts collections in the United States, and related works from the museum. This catalogue highlights some 250 decorative arts pieces, dating from the 1880s to the 1930s. Included are furniture. Metalwork, ceramics, glass, books, drawings, and textiles by Gustave Stickley, Greene and Greene, Frank Lloyd Wright, the Roycrofters, Louis Comfort Tiffany Studios, George Ohr, Bernard Ralph Maybeck, Charles P. Quaint Furniture Arts and Crafts- Stickley- Catalog Reprint- ©1981- NEW For your consideration is this 80-page reprint of an early Stickley Brothers"Quaint Furniture" catalog. Softcover. Packed with excellent illustrations and descriptions of some of the best furniture of the Arts and Crafts period. Condition is NOS- New Old Stock. These are sold without jackets or packaging. And almost always show some signs of handling. In this case, there is a slight- less than 1/16" chip at the bottom edge of the cover; beyond that. It's in"mint shelf" condition. This is a duplicate for me, received as a gift. The one which I had bought new myself was in similar condidion, thus the"mint shelf" designation. The only other point worthy of comment is that there are slight signs of a price sticker, lower right on ... morethe back cover(see scan) The scans show the front and rear covers. The title page, and a typical page of illustrations. The layout througout has descriptions, item numbers, and prices listed on the left page, with matching illustrations on the right page. For you bibliophiles. T hat's"verso" and"recto" Thanks to the Internet. I'm learning the terms) A great look at the variety of pieces offered by one of the major A&C manufacturers. As well as a wonderful reference work for identifying pieces who labels have disappeared. Along with those comes a painful reminder of inflation(I'll take two of anything in there- at those prices! I could furnish my house from this catalog!

Fern Stand Plans, Stickley / Limbert Mission Arts and Crafts Furniture Plans
Fern Stand plans. Designed by Charles Limbert. Dimensions: 13 1/2W 30H The Fern Stand shown in the picture was made from these plans. These are life size plans of the Arts& Crafts period furnishings I've made over the past 14 years. The dimensions came from either measuring originals or from customers who wanted me to re-create their originals. Actually. When I started making these works I found that most of the plans on the market did not come out as shown on the picture that came with the plans, nor the originals. I'm happy to offer these plans to you in confidence that you will be re-creating the originals as they were made in the 1900's. A set of plans include a dimensional cut list. Full scale drawings of the views needed to re-create the piece, drawings of jigs needed, as well as step by step instructions and notes. ... moreAlso included are instructions on how to re-create the finishing colors used during the Arts and Crafts Period. As well as a list of products and where to purchase them. This list includes where to buy norhtern quarter sawn white oak lumber, finishing products, authentic copper hardware and everything else you need to re-create these great works. This item ships witin 2 business days. Plans are rolled up in a tube and shipped via USPS. g=0.RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Fuk.rp*60%600%3Eg%3D0-13d136243f5-0xf6-

STICKLEY BROTHERS MISSION FURNITURE LEATHER COPPER Arts & Crafts Antique
Quaint Furniture in Arts and Crafts. Genuine Russia and Spanish Morocco Leather, Russian Hand Beaten Copper” Published by Turn of the Century Editions in 1981. DISCUSSION: Grand Rapids. Michigan was a furniture manufacturing center long before George and Albert Stickley moved there in 1891. The work of Gustav Stickley’s two younger brothers clearly shows his influence. This facsimile of a 1908 catalog, however, depicts some original and noteworthy designs. The book also pictures lighting fixtures and hammered copper objects for utility and decoration. The style numbers, dimensions, and text in this book are invaluable for collectors and dealers in identifying and under- standing this company’s early designs and production. PRAIRIE SCHOOL ARTS CRAFTS ARCHITECTURE FURNITURE SULLIVAN ELMSLIE IANNELLI FLW
HERE’S THE SCARCE OUT-OF-PRINT 304-PAGE SOFTCOVER BOOK“THE PRAIRIE SCHOOL TRADITION: THE PRAIRIE SCHOOL ARCHIVES OF THE MILWAUKEE ART CENTER” EDITED BY BRIAN A. SPENCER! Originally published in 1979 by the Whitney Library of Design/Watson-Guptill Publications of New York as a hardcover edition. This scarce out-of-print 304-page 1st softcover edition from 1985 provides the following statement: The book surveys the profound impact of the Prairie School on American architecture from the 19th century through the present in three stages: roots, growth, and horizon. Roots are traced through the works of H. H. Richardson, the firm of Adler and Sullivan, and the early works of Frank Lloyd Wright. Growth progresses under the leadership of Wright, who invented the label“Prairie Style. Wright’s new sensitivity toward defining space was practiced by ... morea number of architects. Artists, and designers, many of whom had trained under him or in the office of Adler and Sullivan. Besides Frank Lloyd Wright, those represented include Frank Furness, Walter Burley Griffin, Marion Mahoney, Francis Barry Byrne, the firms of Purcell, Feick and Elmslie, Spencer and Powers, Guenzel and Drummond, Greene and Greene, Claude and Starck, the interior architecture of George M. Niedecken, and the sculpture of Alphonso Iannelli and Richard Bock. Horizon explores the legacy of the design that is being practiced under Wright’s philosophy today and begins with his unexecuted projects. Continuing vitality is shown in the current work of Lloyd Wright. Alden Dow, Taliesin Associated Architects, Arthur A. Carrara, William P. Wenzler, Herb Greene, and Bruce Goff, among others. The Prairie School movement ventured beyond the mere creation of a new style; it redefined the American democratic philosophy through their design media. With over 300 illustrations of plans. Drawings, buildings, and objects, this book offers timely documentation of the Prairie School and the tradition it generated. To this end. The book is divided into the following chapters/sec
Book: ANTIQUE WILLIAM MORRIS ARTS & CRAFTS MOVEMENT DESIGNS -TEXTILES FURNITURE
William Morris as Designer” By Ray Watkinson. Published in New York by Reinhold Publishing Corporation in 1967. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: William Morris. Master Arts& Crafts designer of the late 19th century, is often presented as backward-looking, a"simple-lifer" out of touch with the onrushing machine age. Yet his work was widely hailed by the modernists-Van de Velde and Gropius were admirers. How can the severe forms of the 20th century owe anything to this Gothic-Revival designer? Ray Watkinson explores the contradictions between what Morris was thought to have done and what he actually did, as well as providing an outstanding survey of his life and work. DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 8.5"x10" 84 pages, plus 90 black& white and color illustrations, dust jacket. CONDITION NOTES: The dust ... morejacket has a little minor soil and wear(please see the photos. Above and below) The book itself has some minor soil, and the endpapers are a bit age-toned, with some foxing on the rear endpapers, but otherwise the book is clean and nice, with a tight binding. ANTIQUE STICKLEY FURNITURE, AMERICAN ARTS & CRAFTS - The GRAY COLLECTION
At Home With Gustav Stickley. Arts& Crafts from the Stephen Gray Collection” Edited by Elizabeth Mankin Kornhauser& Linda H. Roth. Published by the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art& the University Press of New Enland in 2008. DISCUSSION: During his first years as an Arts and Crafts furniture maker. From about mid-1900 to early 1904, Gustav Stickley and his designers created the most significant cabinetwork his firm would ever produce. For the most part made of quarter-sawn American oak, this furniture was substantial, subtly proportioned, essentially rectilinear, and built using traditional joinery—for instance, tenon and key, dovetail, pinned through tenons—and employing hand-wrought copper or iron hardware. These structural elements were both functional and symbolic, literally holding the furniture together while also expressing ... moreits moral aesthetic: though a factory product, every piece was solidly, honestly made. Stephen Gray is among those few who, early on, recognized both the inherent beauty of Arts and Crafts furniture and the value of the Craftsman Ideal. His collection includes many of the rarest forms and has few equals, but in two regards, it is almost singular: Stephen Gray lives with this major collection and has embraced the Craftsman Ideal in a beautiful, simple, personal, regionally sensitive manner. He lives in a nineteenth-century country house and has integrated an important collection with the ideas of decorating, lifestyle, and sensitivity to environment that were central to the Craftsman enterprise. Through Stephen Gray’s collection, it is possible to explore the disparate values of the Arts and Crafts Movement, the Arts and Crafts interior, and the tensions inherent in the pursuit of an aesthetically simple Ideal life. This lavishly illustrated book features Stickley’s furniture, including many photographs of Stickley designs in use, and it also includes some fine examples of art pottery, lighting fixtures, tiles, and color woodblock prints. The essays by David Cathers on Stickl

ANTIQUE ROYCROFT ARTS & CRAFTS MOVEMENT MISSION FURNITURE in 1906
Catalog of Roycroft Furniture and other things” A facsimile reprint of the 1906 Roycroft Furniture catalog. Issued by Turn of the Century Editions in 1981. DISCUSSION: Roycroft furniture was not manufactured in large quantities. Nevertheless. It contributed significantly towards the growth of Arts and Crafts design in America. Furniture and other artifacts made by the Roycrofters at their community in East Aurora, New York, are easily identified by the incised orb and cross and/or“Roycroft” name. The 1906 catalog reprinted here depicts a substantial portion of the furniture designs produced under the forceful direction of Elbert Hubbard. The catalog also features some copper and wrought iron accessories. DESCRIPTION: Softcover. 6”x8.5” 47 pages, black& white illustrations. CONDITION NOTES: In fine. New condition. GUSTAV STICKLEY CRAFTSMAN WORKSHOP ARTS & CRAFTS MISSION FURNITURE & INTERIORS
What is Wrought in The Craftsman Workshops” Published by Turn of the Century Editions in 1997. DISCUSSION: First published by Gustav Stickley in 1904. This is a rare and important contemporary explanation of the American Arts and Crafts Movement. This facsimile was originally produced by John Crosby Freeman of the American Life Foundation in 1982. The text by Gustav Stickley sets forth his philosophy of art, architecture, and interior design and decoration, enabling a greater understanding of the man and his life’s work. The influence of Harvey Ellis on Gustav Stickley’s early works can be seen in many of the furniture sketches and room schemes.
