This piece has a door and lips for glass which is not present. One could have glass panels cut for a few dollars and this will make a fine statement piece. It's stunning. Old and original with wear typical of age and use. But as you can see will make a grand old chandelier for indoor or outdoor use. One may wish to paint to brighten up a bit or change color entirely but it displays beautifully with its shabby features. This lovely piece has a door that opens for exchanging bulbs. This circa 1880 possibly older Gilded Bronze FOOTED TRAY has a border in crisp relief showing an abundance of French Country folks chatting, drinking from mugs, on horseback, reaping, and loading kegs onto a wagon, all entwined with vines. There is a bit of wear due to age in the center which shows the bronze color which looks like copper but I do believe it to be bronze although it could be copper. There is also a very slight visible ring in the center probably from something that was set on it. I have not tried to polish this out. Measuring 9.25" top-to-bottom and 13.25" in length. The tray is 1.25" high on its four little brass bun feet; the molded-relief front is backed ... moreby gilded and some gilding has rubs in the center-front wood-grained area, and on the back where hands would balance the tray for carrying, from a non-smoking environment. Middle Ages to the 20 th century. Exceeds that of any other country. Nearly all of the motifs of this fine pair are typically Empire(1800-1815) But they date from the Restauration/Charles X period. From a technical point of view. This formal pair is interesting, because they mark a transitional period, using earlier techniques- lathed feet, and extensive, hand-incised details- with post-1820 central iron shafts(which do, however, exhibit quite a bit of hand-work) These thin iron rods were only in use for a short period– by the mid-19 th century. French artisans had undoubtedly become aware of how fragile this type of construction was, and switched to a more massive rod stock. Beware

With help from a antique identification site. I was told that this is possibly a late 1800's French victorian cachepot or planter. Possibly part of a garniture set. I'm not sure of the metal content. Looks like it has some brass components. Could be gilded. There is a little rust and damage to the insert. Also some oxidation on a few places. Please look at all the pictures. If you need more pics, let me know. A magnet does not stick it. It has been engraved with initials only on one side.
