Antique Figural Sewing Thimble Holder/Stand Child &French Bull Dog Spelter Metal
In the spotlight for your bidding consideration is this antique figural thimble stand featuring a child with his pet French bull dog! Standing roughly 3 3/4" tall and measuring 4 3/16" long. The scene portrayed is that of a curly haired boy who is petting the head of his dog as a reward for sitting up so nicely. Next to the bully is a thimble shape molded onto the base that acts as a holder for a real thimble. This metal sculpture appears to cast from a spelter. Spelter is a blend of zinc alloys that was used for many 19th and early 20th century cast pieces of a lesser quality, such as figurines and candle sticks. As such, the modeling on this piece is rather crudely finished, though the little dog with collar looks rather good. The metal has taken on a darkened patina with age and oxidation, and there are scratches and scuffs overall. ... moreIt has a spot of green on the dog and could use a cleaning. This beautiful Empire Bronze Candelabra measures about 14.75" tall. The one candle holder on the outside seems a bit roughed up and mounted differently. It can be seen in the pics. The sticks really are absolutely exceptional. Figural elements from top to bottom from the hoof feet to the faces to the acanthus leaf branches. A fantastic piece of bronze work. The wood mounts that are holding the base together seem as if they are about to give up as can be seen in the pics. Not bad for 200 year old wood.

And are of exceptional quality. The figural women are made of bronze. And are mounted on marble column stands. Each woman is holding a gilt bronze curved horn shaped holder. ITEM MEASUREMENTS Lady figures measure about 17 1/4" high. 3" wide and 3 1/2" deep, stone base 6" high by 4 1/2" wide. There are small holes in the sides. some with small round headed screws) but I don't know what they were for. Above is a modern little nail I used to hold the horn in place for photos. Later white felt bottoms. The arms were cast separately. And attached. The seam above needs repair. After having consulted a fifth-generation metal smith formerly of Boston. I was told this piece is a mid-19th century, probably French, urn/sculpture/epergne/statue with handmade bolts. There is a(perhaps copper) removable bowl on the top of this, which indicates it might've once been an early Art Deco lamp, French, with a wired globe attached. While my expert thought the piece spelter, there is a possibility it is lead in part. It is VERY heavy, twenty pounds. The patina is amazing! The last owner, a Florida state garden club president, must've won medals with this one! Perhaps it has been kept outside. Note minor flaw comments please. It also could use a bit of tightening. Thoroughly gorgeous French art nouveau style letter opener or paper knife, or even page turner. It is a cold painted bronze signed A. Marionnet(Albert Marionnet 1852-1910) This huge letter opener features a sculpted fox and an inaccessible bunch of grapes. It is a desktop reminder to executives of Aesop's fable: The fox and the grapes" This piece is painted- the fox and the leaves. We aren't sure about the grapes, but they are dark and tempting. There were not many examples of this piece when we searched, and most of the ones we found were not painted. This is very long for a letter opener, approx. 11.25" and quite heavy. It is in excellent condition, the paint is not chipped up, though you can see some wear on the high areas. The whole has a wonderful aged patina. For your consideration are an exceptional pair of monumental figural lamps that are just stunning after Arthur Waagen and signed on base bottoms. These are divine pieces with intricate detail and are for right and left placement. You will have a hard time finding another pair with such elaborate detail. Rare late 18th to early 19th Century Bronze Dore' Figure of Regal Lady with Hand Embroidered Metalic Thread Skirt. This fine piece is a late 18th c. French gilt bronze figure of finely detailed Elizabethan era lady wearing a high collar top gown and bonnet. The bottom of her dress is a hand embroidered skirt with amazing stitching and detail with silver metalic threading which fits over a brass/ bronze base. The bottom of the skirt has a detailed beaded edge that fits up over the skirt. This is a very unusual piece with fine workmanship throughout. Research has led me to believe it may have originally been the Queen piece from a chess set. It is is great condition for the age. The photos show well. It is made of Bronze and weighs about 17 lbs. It is so ornate Notice the beautiful figures at each end of the tray. Angle like with wings.beautiful upswepted hair the details are amazing. The hair has ribbons and garlands with jewel like beaded details. Ribbons flowing down from the heads to the necks. Amazing work.even on the underside of the tray is spectaculor.
