The wrought iron is thick and very substantial and the candleabra is heavy. There is intricate detailing with lovely scrolled curves on the arms and the legs. The center shaft features a twisted design with an open"bird cage" twist as the center focal design. The four candle cups and drip pans are nicely patterned as well. This is an original Arts and Crafts or Mission style wall sconce that was originally electric. I found it on a wall of an Arts and Crafts Style house in Lorain. Ohio and they had been using it as candle holders. There is still a candle in one socket and the cloth covered type electric wires have been cut so it would need rewiring to be used electrically. The socket covers have drips of wax on them and are not the same height and I have only wiped dust off so everything needs to be cleaned. The hammered socket holders are brass or copper and the rest is proably wrought iron as a magnet does stick to that part. The sconce is about 10 1/2 inches tall and 10 inches wide. As you can see the formation of the design is a donkey,a rural form, undoubtably done in homage to the farm animal. Flint strikers were used with small amounts of tinder to create a flame. A piece of flint would have grazed the underside steel edge. Most commonly strikers are a"C" or oval shape. But on occasion, one is lucky enough to uncover a figural example. This particular one was recently purchased out of a collection of early ironware assembled over thirty years ago. A rare 16th century or early 17th century Spanish solid forged iron door knocker. Of double baluster shape with knocker head in the shape of an animal head. The door knocker hinges on a forged iron bar with flatened ring shape ending. The bar was once fixated in a thick and heavy wooden door. Antique French Hand Forged Iron Hammered Copper Dovetail Pot Kettle Cauldron
This is a fantastic original VERY OLD antique copper cauldron that came over from France with its previous owners in the middle of the 20th century. Although it is much older than that. It is in good condition with obvious wear from age and use with a gorgeous aged patina with verdigris. The dovetail construction is evident on the side under the hand forged iron handle. There is also an iron band around the top. All of the seams are tight, nothing is separating, there are no holes or cracks, and the damage is limited to a few dents and dings along with some scuffs and scratches from use and some charring on the bottom surface from use over a fire. There is also some residue on the inside from use. It measures 13" in diameter x 11" H, not including the handle. It will be packed very well and insured during shipping.

Antique. Blacksmith hand forged sign bracket with a 26 inch solid metal sawmill blade. Circa 1850's. This hung ouside the saw mill in Massachusettes for almost 150 years with touchups to the sign portion. The 75 year old former owner remembers it hanging out there when he was a kid and said it was there forever before that. Bracket is beautifully hand forged by a blacksmith and measures 32" long, 12" tall on the topside and 9" on the bottom side. look at the detail on the bracket. Sugar Cutter / Nippers - Hand forged iron kitchen utensil with sugar cone, 1780
We are offering for your bid an interesting and unusually long 18th century hand forged iron sugar cutter together with a newer example of sugar molded into the shape of a cone. For many centuries. Sugar was molded into the shape of a cone or loaf. Large lumps of sugar were broken from the cone with a mallet or sugar ax and these pieces were sold by weight. The person who made a purchase of sugar in this form would then need these sturdy cutters to cut the larger pieces into a more manageable size for cooking or grinding with a mortar and pestle into a powder form. A blacksmith would have hand forged this sugar cutter(or sugar nipper) to serve as a utilitarian kitchen item. A latch at one end holds the gripping handles securely together when not in use. When the latch is opened. The handles are separated. A thin piece of spring steel is attached ... moreto the interior of one handle and serves to create pressure(when the two handles are squeezed together) to open and close the 2 axe shaped cutting devices affixed to the opposite end of the handles. A hinged pivot allows the handles to apply pressure and open and close the cutting blades. A chunk of sugar would be placed in between the cutting blades and the handles would be squeezed together, resulting in breaking the chunk into smaller pieces. The overall length of these sugar cutters or sugar nippers is 12 inches which is considerably longer that most sugar nippers. Allowing more leverage for cutting. The condition is very good and it is still in working condition. This is a great piece for your collection of early kitchen related items.
