Late 1800s/Early 1900s Fine Pair German 800 Silver Open Salt Cellars w/Spoons ... morePresented is an interesting pair of Hanau German silver open salt cellars. With spoons. This set dates to the late 1800s or early 1900s. The salt cellars themselves are 800 purity silver, done in a fancy floral openwork design. The interior liners are silver plated, and fit the cellars perfectly. The spoons are not original, but they are quite ornate and match the cellars quite well. The spoons have shell shaped bowls and a rich gold wash. This piece is in excellent overall condition. There are no splits. No breaks, no chips, no dents, no cracks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs. The salts are stamped with the German crescent and crown as well as 800 for the purity. There is also the remnants of what is probably a maker's mark. But unfortunately we can't make out what it is. The spoons have what appears to be a small import mark, likely French. The salts stand about 2 1/2 inches tall and measure about 2 1/2 inches in diameter. Each spoon is about 3 3/8 inches long. The total weight for the set. Including the silver plated liners, is 232 grams. The weight of just the silver openwork salts and the spoons, without the plated liners, is 146.7 grams or 5.2 regular ounces. jm. PAIR of FINE ANTIQUE BRONZE ORIENTAL VASES or URNS RAISED BIRD FLORA & FAUNA
Here is a pair of fine antique Asian bronze vases or urns. Most likely Japanese or Chinese. Each features a motif of raised birds, tree limbs, flowers and leaves with clouds above the scene. Top neck features a raised design with a diamond patterned rim edge. The color is a deep and dark brown with scattered green patination to a dark chocolate brown near bases and top rim. There is a very minor impact mark to the flared area near bases(unnoticable without very close inspection) with minor impacts at the base rim, otherwise both are in VERY FINE +++ condition and much nicer than pictured. The detailing is fantastic with a great nature subject matter. Each measures just over 10" high with 6 3/4" wide top openings. I believe these date pre 1900 and are both unmarked. Don't miss out on this fine pair of bronze vases! See calculated ... morecost for shipping charge and options, insurance and delivery confirmation included to U.S. destinations. Seemingly infinite variations on form, decoration, and technical construction, within any given period. The wealth and depth of range in both formal& rustic French lighting. Middle Ages to the 20 th century. Exceeds that of any other country. Nearly all of the motifs of this fine pair are typically Empire(1800-1815) But they date from the Restauration/Charles X period. From a technical point of view. This formal pair is interesting, because they mark a transitional period, using earlier techniques- lathed feet, and extensive, hand-incised details- with post-1820 central iron shafts(which do, however, exhibit quite a bit of hand-work) These thin iron rods were only in use for a short period– by the mid-19 th century. French artisans had undoubtedly become aware of how fragile this type of construction was, and switched to a more massive rod stock. Beware

The definitive work on antique French iron is Raymond Lecoq’s Les Objets de la Vie Domestique(pub. 1979) Unfortunately. It is out of print, difficult to find, expensive– 400 to 900 Euros- however. It is a must. It is uneven– not enough space is devoted to the rich diversity of French andirons, firebacks, or secular pricket candlesticks- but in general, fireplace implements and lighting are well-covered, prior to the mid-19 th century. The particular double-barred form of this outstanding and rare pair of andirons is identified in Lecoq as a Chevalet double. And is confined to the Louis 14 th period– but Lecoq only illustrates a single example in exclusively wrought iron(page 71) We have the work. SCARCE ANTIQUE RUSSIA or POLAND CAST BRASS CANDLESTICKS NO FEET HEAVY FINE PAIR
MASSIVE CAST BRASS PAIR OF CANDLESTICKS PAIR OF ANTIQUE BRASS CANDLESTICKS Excellent brass casting on these early 19th century candlesticks. Solid cast brass. Typical of Eastern European countries. Especially Poland and Russia, because they had large quantities of the raw material. England and France made hollow sticks molded from sheets of brass in technically sophisticated styles. By the second half of the 19th C. Eastern Europe had this ability also. We date these candlesticks 1830 to 1850. The origin of the design was most likely Spain. Traveling through the Netherlands to Eastern Europe. The style is sometimes found with a chunky square foot at each corner. MANY PHOTOGRAPHS BELOW OUR DESCRIPTION. After being cast. They were polished, with line decoration added. On a metal lathe. Usually a rather primitive lathe. Seldom are such candlesticks ... moreexactly the same in the decorative lines and spacing. Because they are hand-turned. You can see file marks clearly in our photos. Also some pitting from the casting process. The screws are very long and work perfectly, they look original but might have been replaced at one time. As they are so perfect. We ship our items very well protected, delivery confirmation is included in the shipping cost. Please see our other items listed and thank you to all our bidders. Paypal payment due within 3 days after close of auction. Delivery confirmation is included in the shipping cost. gsrx_vers_526(GS 6.6.6(526)

Apollo & Hestia -- Antique Bronze Statue Pair -- French 19th Century -- Fine Art
For sale from the estate of a family member is this stunning pair of 19th Century French bronzes representing the Greek God Apollo and Goddess of the Hearth Hestia. This bronze pair are spectacular. Impressive pieces for home or office. No noted condition problems. Beautiful patina and artist detail that delights the eye. Their faces convey actual emotion(if you know the story behind these two) They stand approx. 17 inches high and the plinth(base) has a diameter of approx. 6 inches. These were appraised as being from the 19th Century and cast in France. No signature or foundry mark has been found but the basalt plinths are one indicator of their origin and age. Our home is very contemporary is design and furnishing and these really don't fit as such. So this pair of wonderful bronzes needs a new home where they will be admired and appreciated, ... moreperhaps by a collector of fine bronzes. This pair is being offered below appraised value with a reasonable starting bid and a Buy It Now option. Shipping is to the"lower 48" US states only and they will be well packed for shipment. Payment via Paypal to confirmed Paypal addresses only. Shipping cost is $40 and I will absorb any cost over that(and it will cost significantly more due to their weight and cost of insurance) Any questions. Please ask and I will try to answer. These came from my mother's impressive fine arts collection so I know a little, but not a lot about them.
