The piece measures approximately 8" X 3 1/4" at its widest points and 1" tall from the floor to the top of the side handles. The candlestick cups are about 1 1/4" tall. Cast Iron Nutcracker With Original Black Enamel Paint Mounted on Board, Very Old
An early cast iron nutcracker in its original black enamel paint. The piece is mounted on a wooden board that I think is birch. The board measures 9 1/4" long by 2 1/2" wide and the height is 6 1/4" The nutcracker crushes the nut when you press down on the handle and then the attached spring releases it to the open position when released. No marking that I could find on it but I believe it dates to around 1900. Excellent working condition just some minor paint wear. Buyer pays $9.80 shipping in the continental U.S.A. Early European Ornate Pink Pitcher with Magnolias. Gold Trim, Gold Enamel Paint This is one of two pieces we have listed in this stunningly beautiful pattern. This auction is for a pitcher. It is 7 1/2" high. It is decorated with large flowers that we believe to be magnolias. There is gold trim around the edges. There is also gold enamel paint on the outline of the pattern. It can be felt with one's finger. Also. There is a"ruffled" or"gathered" effect at the bottom of the outside of the bowl, right above the base. This can be seen in the fourth photo. This is very unusual and something we have not seen before. It adds to the beauty of the bowl. There are no marks on the piece. We believe it to be European. Possibly English and dates to the middle to late 1800's. We are basing this on our combined knowledge ... moreof pottery and porcelain but we are not absolutely positive. We posted this on Ebay's Pottery, Glass and Porcelain Board and they were unable to help. This is unusual for these experts! The condition is quite good. Some of the gold trim is missing but nothing major. Be sure to click on the photos to see more clearly. The bottom is unmarked. The second piece we have is a matching bowl. The last picture shows the two together. They are NOT a wash set. The proportions are all wrong. However. They do look nice together. If the purchaser of this item lives in the midwest to west coast. Miniature Portraits/Enamel Paint/Seed Beads/Charms Maker: Unknown Hallmarks: No hallmarks found. When I bought this some time ago I was told it was French. Gold plated and from the 18 th Century. I do not guarantee any of the three but I think all could be true. Pattern: Large bell-shaped plaque at top features the largest portrait of a woman with hair and dress like the 18 th Century. She is surrounded by a gold border that is covered with white seed beads. Outside that is blue enamel paint and another gold border also covered with white seed beads. Lower corners have red enamel bordered in the gold and beads. Eight chains hang from this bell-shaped plaque. The two middle chains drop ¼” to hold the second plaque. Oval in ... moreshape and holding a portrait of a young man facing left. His hair also looks from the 18 th Century. He is surrounded in red enamel covered with white seed beads. Next plaque is also ¼” below the last and is oval in shape. This is of another lady facing right. She has the same decoration as the one above. The last plaque is a butterfly-shape with a small portrait of a woman. She has a small gold border and then the rest is painted with dark blue enamel surrounded by gold and seed beads. Below this plaque is the lowest clip that may have held a watch when new since two more chains come down from the top plaque to hold this bottom section(to carry more weight) Size: 6-1/2” long 2-1/4” wide at the bottom of the bell plaque. The chains and appendages are about 3” wide when hanging down. The 4 outer chain lengths are: 2-3/4” 3-3/8” 3-1/4” 2-1/2” The belt hook in back is 3-3/4” long. Although I don’t see any sign it contains any precious metal. It weighs 104.8 grams or 3.7 ounces. Features: The appendages attached to this Chatelaine are more like charms– or Breloques as the French would call them. I don’t know if they are original but probably not.
