Antique 18th Century John Jupe Large Pewter Charge English Signed
Early 18th Century Pewter Charger Old estate find from the home of a collector. This is a nice 18th Century Pewter Piece. It was made by John Jupe(1737-1760) in London. It is marked on the back with a touchmark of a rose with a Fleur-de-lis and IOHN above, IUPE below with curved reserves and a palm frond to either side on the underside of the rim. The secondary mark is a rose with crown, above that it says MADE IN and below it should say LONDON, but the London is hard to make out. There is a quality mark of an X with a crown above that is stamped on the underside of the rim between the two marks. The charger has a hook on the back for hanging. ANTIQUE 19th Century COPPER TEA POT KETTLE Teapot LARGE 1-GALLON English
Antique Lg. Copper Tea Kettle that holds a full gallon. It is 10 1/2" tall and from spout to back it is approx. 12 3/4" long. I listed it as between 1850 and 1899 but it's very possible it is pre 1850. The style indicates it is English Colonial or Country with no markings. Dove tailed construction. Great patina. It is oval with a gooseneck or serpent style spout. The tin lineing is very clean for this age.last photo) The 2 worse dents are on the top and I made no attempt to get inside and tap them out a little. The seam under the spout I can't tell if it was made that way or it's an old repair. see close up) I'm sure this is only for decorateing but I did fill it up with 8 measured pints of water and it did have a slower drip leak where the spout is attached to the main body and possibly a slow drip leak at the top ... moreseam. I included 9 photos you can enlarge that cover the whole kettle very well for a nice look. This should be a very attractive price to purchase this nice primitive. Buyer to pay a flat 10.00 S&H Fully Insured UPS Ground. NJ Residents 7% sales Tax. Shipping Price is for the Lower 48 States Only. Thanks and Good Luck.
Rare Late 18th Century English Brass Horn Book Alphabet ABC Letters Teaching Aid
Rare Late 18 th Century English Brass Horn Book Alphabet ABC Letters Teaching Aid This rectangular metal brass alphabet tablet was cast in relief. The 26 alphabet letters plus ampersand& OE. The tablet measures 5 inches tall and 2 1/2" wide in seven rows(one row for each day of the week) The back is inscribed St Pauls AD 1729. We do not know the exact age of this piece. The original foundry mould of the 1729 brass hornbook was re-struck throughout the eighteenth century and into the nineteenth. Brass horn books such as this were made for children attending private religious schools of the time as a take home teaching aid to give children their first educational building blocks of the English language in the early Victorian period. Made for learning and amusement. As many early games and puzzles with an underlying educational motive. ... moreThe hornbook would be tied to the student’s belt and be pulled out for impromptu study and memorization games. Much like the pocket sized chapbooks. Hornbooks were teaching tools made in a variety of materials, including brass bronze wood pewter and leather as well as other metals. The hornbook is free from any damage or repair. Crude in the making. Not polished smooth or refined, which was to be expected since it was made for children and probably considered disposable. We have not cleaned or in any way altered the surface. The photos show the hornbook with and without a flash. Encrusted with hard earned grunge with centuries of hand rubbing. A very nice example with great age patina. Wonderfully tactile. Wonderfully collectable, and if used imaginatively, wonderfully decorative. A rare example of an early teaching tool. A perfect gift for your favorite teacher. We are pleased to offer free domestic(USA) shipping with this purchase! Please send us an email with any questions or if you would like to see additional photos. Its never too early to think about Christmas! Thank you for bidding! Thanks to a life-changing inheritance; for the past 10 months, we have mostly focused on buying. This will start to change, partly due to the simple fact that we have literally hundreds of pieces of early lighting& metalwork to sort through, as to what to keep, versus sell– including dozens of period candlesticks, and more than 300 lamps– do keep an eye on these listings/my store.
