Our best guess is a boot/shoe scraper or a"log dog" tool for holding small logs in place, or for driving into a log to be used as a work support. You may know better than we do! It has an elongated"H" shape with two spike-like end pieces connected by a flat crossbar. The overall dimensions of this piece are about 6 1/2 inches wide by 5 inches tall. This piece was crudely hand-forged together and designed for utility, not perfection. It is definitely iron/ferrous, and does attract a magnet. An interesting old piece for display or creative use. z CONDITION: Very Good. This is a very old. Used, barn fresh” piece, left just the way we found it. It is very solid and interestingly made. We have not polished or cleaned it up in any way. We like it just as it is, with the original oxidized patina, embedded soiling in the crevices, etc. We’ll leave any cleaning or polishing decisions up to the winning bidder. The blade on the back is 8" long. All the features including the face. Muscles, and the tail, are well defined/carved. The patina and the old flaking paint suggests that it's a very old piece. ANTIQUE CAST IRON LARGE LYRE HARP BOOT SCRAPER WITH MUD PAN This very old large cast iron boot scraper was found in an estate in central Virginia. It measures 11-1/2" long x 9-1/4" wide x 7-1/2" tall and weighs 8 lbs. It features a lyre design with a 4-1/2" wide scraper bar. A 1-1/2" deep oval mud pan with fluted sides, and four 1/2" long feet. The feet are evenly worn so it sits level and steady on any flat surface. It remains in very good condition showing general wear and remnants of old black paint. It is signed VM on the bottom. This auction is for a Cast Iron Boot scraper shaped like a Dachshund. He has some of its original paint on the eyes and tongue. I debated about removing the green moss but I like the way it looks without any restoration and you also might like it that way. There is some rust but it is very light. There are no cracks. This little guy is very solid. He weighs 26 pounds. He is 21" long and 7" wide. He has a wonderful expression on his face and I believe he could hold a door open in a hurricane.
