Wonderful pair of antique Art Nouveau era Arts & Crafts style hand made art pottery bookends with nude male and female figures. These are unmarked and ... morebeautifully made with a gritty white clay body and thick muted matte glazes as often seen in architectural Faience wares. Each approx. 6.25” tall, 7” wide, and 3” deep. Previous owner stated these were Compton Pottery in the UK, however these do not fit to their production and believe these are from the United States, and possibly part of a decorative accessory line from one of the architectural Faience manufacturers. Fresh from a fine old Denver estate, and offered with No Reserve. Condition is as pictured and very good to excellent overall. Expected manufacturing flaws and glaze skips.

RARE ANTIQUE ART DECO NUDE MALE HOLDING BOOKS BOOKENDS JB HIRSCH GAY INTEREST
According to the Collector's Encyclopedia of Bookends. This set is known as"Servant of Knowledge" circa 1930, attributed to JB Hirsch, gray metal figure on polished stone, rarity 5. A bronzed nude male figure is kneeling on black stone base. He arms are behind him, palms up for the placement of the book. Condition issues include small chips to the base and the books are not attached to the figure. The books do rest nicely in his open hands and they display beautifully. Every effort has been made to describe the item accurately. But please remember that I am not an expert, and items are described to the best of my ability. I strive for honesty but it is virtually impossible to list and discuss every single aspect of condition. A picture is worth a thousand words, so please look closely at the photograph(s) of the item in the ... morelisting. I will respond to all inquiries, and can email you additional photographs of the item. Because this item isn't new, it may have wear that is appropriate for its age. All sales are considered to be final unless something has been grossly misrepresented or omitted in the description. Shipping cannot be refunded. I ship through the USPS. Thanks for your interest!
BEST RARE HUBLEY CAST IRON POLICE DOG SHEPHERD BOOKENDS
Increase Sales by 18% and double your hits- Vendio Gallery. BEST! RARE HUBLEY CAST IRON POLICE DOG SHEPHERD BOOKENDS The castings of the foundries of old. To wit, Albany Foundry, Bradley and Hubbard, National Foundry, Hubley, and Judd Company are unrivaled as"works of art" the amount and degree of detail in those era pieces set them apart from the mass-produced pieces of later years. And, here we have prime examples of those EARLY pieces. They're a well-preserved, nicely detailed, ANTIQUE, CAST IRON set of bookends, exquisitely cast in the form of a SIDEWARD GLANCING, GERMAN SHEPHERD dog, and expertly crafted by HUBLEY. These outstanding bookends are referenced in Hubley's Metal Art Goods Catalog, as book ends- Design No. 364, Police Dog(A lifelike model of one of the best known of all dogs. Likewise, these book ends are ... morereferenced in Louis Kuritzky's book, Collector's Guide To Bookends" at page 104. Although timeworn and naturally aged, these handsome bookends retain NEARLY ALL OF THEIR ORIGINAL, POLYCHROME PAINT! The detailing colors of which are still VIVID, VIBRANT, and RICHLY TONED! There is no spray painting here; they're ALL HAND-PAINTED! Wonderfully, despite decades of handling and rubbing, a glimpse of Hubley's signature, RED COLLAR can yet be seen. Betraying their age, there is chipping and wear to their original paint. And, where that paint chipping/wear does occur, it is followed by that welcomed, base coat; or the rich, mahogany hue/patina of the exposed iron, which could only be brought about by age. This paint chipping/wear does not affect the integrity of the pieces themselves, but merely evidences their ANTIQUE character. I would guesstimate that Hubley manufactured these bookends, from the mid-1920s until the early 1930s, to celebrate and participate in the craze, at that time, revolving around the original and renowned, German Shepherd dog, Rin Tin Tin. Incidentally, this famous canine, besides being know for his courage and tricks, is also credited with s

RARE DECO EARLY 1900'S GALVANO BRONZE CLAD MORI COWPUNCHER COWBOY HORSE BOOKENDS
From my personal collection. This is only the second time I have ever seen this set in my many years of collecting. Ultra-rare and are not listed in any leading bookend. Reference books. These are definitely a very early. Paul Mori( Galvano Bronze)set. Before the employees of Paul Mori purchased the company and changed the name to Pompeian Bronze. You can see this by their size because in the early 1900's books and bookends were much smaller. There is also a similar set that is larger and in the same style called" Ridin High" circa 1925. Pompeian did not take over the company until 1920. This set dates from 1905 to 1915. Bronze clad was a very expensive and time consuming process. It required special attention to the amounts of electrical current used and the composition of the plating solution. The molds were first put in hot ... moreparaffin or carnuba wax and left to harden. It was then sprayed with an electrically conductive coating. The piece was then held by a wick and dipped into the plating solution. The mold could stay from just a few hours to a few days. After complete the finishes would vary by subject and then would be sealed with lacquer. The term" Cowpuncher" was first used in 1878 before the common term now days of Cowboy. The word actually had its origin in the days when the railroads started to haul cows from the Plains to the cities of the Midwest and East. A fellow who helped push the cattle onto rail cars by poking them with a long stick.Giving rise to the expression Cowpoke in1881 and Cowprodder. The Cowboy used a prod to keep the cows standing during the railroad journey so that they wouldn’t get trampled. The bookends show the Cowpuncher A.K.A. cowboy sitting atop his trusty horse. The cowboy keeps an eye out across the plains looking after the cows that are shown in the background. The details are really nice and I love the finish. A deep. Dark bronze with faux, verdigris of green highlights throughout. The bookends measure 4 3/4" tall by 4 1/2" wide and weigh 2.12

That the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation. According to the traditional account, the original flag was made in June 1776, when a small committee—including George Washington, Robert Morris and relative George Ross( Betsy Ross husband) This set is made of spelter and is bronze gilded. Only a few productions by National Metalizing were signed and none that I have ever seen in my 45 years of collecting had the foil type label displayed later by Armor Bronze. Armor Bronze collectors will absolutely love this adorable set. Description: This bronze clad set depicts an American Indian Brave more than likely ready to mount his horse in readiness to take flight from either battle or some type of immediate danger. Some have summorized this set has a depiction of the overall"Flight" or movement of the American Indian away from the influx of foreign immigrants who were taking over the Indians home lands. The set was titled by the artist as“The Flight” so it is obvious the brave is fleeing from some type of danger. This L-shaped is very simplistic on the back side but very ornate on the fronts. The top is adorned with ribbon like scrolling leading down to the title box containing the words“The Flight” The bareback horse is rearing and contained by the Indian holding the reins in his left hand and full length spear in his right. The base appears to place the horse and rider on flat rocks or flagstone base which may indicate the

RARE CENTURY OLD ANTIQUE CAST BRONZE INDONESIAN CEREMONIAL DINJIA ARMOR BOOKENDS
This bookend set is exemplary possessing intricacies that antique dealers and collectors admire. While also being in excess of a century old, and in prime condition. Depicted are Indonesian Men in Ceremonial Battle Armor. This Armor. Is too detailed to describe here, but many such suits and outfits are showcased at the Metropolitan Museum of Arts. What is seen here, is very true to what was actually worn by the elite of dynastic societies associated more closely with China. Both are without foundry marks or inscriptions. The bases on which each men are knelt. Are the same as the bases seen on a few Ronson pairs that came later. It is known though, that Ronson Metal Works, of Newark, NJ produced a highly selective line of Asian themed pairs. However, those on record are all either cast white or gray metal, finished in a wide variety of paints ... moreand decorative metals. The chance does exist that these are indeed Ronson, but a set made of higher grade material, brass and bronze, and also a set that may have been produced at the U.K. factory early in the 1930's. These seem a bit older though. While never a pleasant action. The reader must be informed that there is inconspicuous damage to one. Look closely, under the knees of one, there is a hole. This isn't visible when just sitting, but looking from the underside, it is there nonetheless. That same one, has an uneven bottom edge, it looks cast that way. The other bookend base it fine, with what looks like a scratch in the picture, in reality it is much less. These are dusty. And left in as found condition. The twist in"finials" on the helmet are original and have an intentional curvature. When screwed in place exactly, these stand vertically and give these even more height than what each already have. Both are 9" Tall. 3.5" Wide x 3.5" Deep, and weigh 6 lbs. Both are sturdy with a little wobble to the figures. Overall. These are great! Old, authentic, and definitely Antique, and a set that one may never see again. Froo www.froo.com | Fr

BOOKENDS ARMOR BRONZE CLAD PUPPY DOG ORIGINAL DARK CHOCOLATE COLOR RARE PAIR
Check out my other items! AUCTION DESCRIPTION: Armor Bronze-National Metalizing Co. 1917-1948“Snuggling Puppies” Circa: 1918-20 Guaranteed to be one of the oldest and all original Armor Bronze Production’s in the early bronze clad issue. These have a wonderful chocolate bronze finish with aged and bold patina. This set has not been listed in any price guide as of this date and would be considered extremely rare and especially considering their wonderful near flawless condition. Armor Bronze collectors will absolutely love this adorable set. This set’s theme is two small puppies cuddled together with one resting his head on the others hip while the other is resting his or her head on the rib area. The breed appears to be English or Irish setter or possibly another type hunting dog. It would also be my guess that they are resting on a very ... morelarge canine pad of the time or possibly just a cloth pallet of hay. The bottom of the base is sculpted with an ornate design leading me to believe it is a very large canine bedding pad. They are both signed in the earliest Armor Bronze shield and script of Armor Bronze Co. and copyright sign which also indicates the earliest of Armor productions. Note: Since very early bookends were made for smaller books of the times many people have found they can use bookends for numerous other jobs. I have used this set for simply paper weights. Specifications: Height: 4.50” Depth: 4.25” the pair, Width: 5.15, Condition: This set is in excellent to near mint condition. Cladding is completely tight to under mold. There are no felt coverings and the bottom cladding is tight with original raked lines on one and the other is smooth with wire wick ends present. This set is the only set I have ever owned or seen in my 43 years of collecting and selling bookends and I have contacted several of the oldest collectors I have corresponded with over the years and it is the only pair they have ever seen. So I would venture to say this is one of the rarest sets Armor produced. PLEASE OBSERVE ALL PICT
BOOKENDS POMPEIAN BRONZE CLAD ELEPHANTS RARE HONEY COLORED MATCHED SET
Check out my other items! Auction Description: Armor Bronze-National Metalizing Co. 1914-1948“Trumpeting Elephants” Circa: 1925 Guaranteed to be old and all original Armor Bronze Co in the early bronze clad weighted production process. These have a wonderful dark honey bronze patina finish in very high detail. These have not been listed in any price guide as of this date and would be considered extremely rare and especially considering their natural and wonderful aged condition. Armor Bronze collectors will absolutely love this very difficult set to find. This is one of the earlier and unique Armor sets of a standing bull elephant. The elephant is in the trunks up full trumpeting position for mate calling or possibly his warning stance. It is said the trunks up position represents“good luck” This set is very good to excellent condition. Condition ... moreof finish is near perfect with no major damage to any parts. On the lower circular front base there is a very slight flat bump below the elephants left rear leg and is so slight it is not that noticeable. Both ends retain old felt coverings but possibly not original since the color is black. They do lack the original foil stickers making me think they are replacements. Since I have had this set with original stickers. I do know them to be Armor Bronze. There was another very similar set produced by Armor Bronze with the exact same stance but on a rectangular base. This set is on a semicircular base with a nice smooth graduated concave style. This set is only the second set I have obtained in this style or seen in over 45 years of collecting and selling bookends. Notice: I was contacted by a Ebayer who said this set was made by Pompeian but offered no proof and this set is very smooth which is more characteristic to Armor versus Pompeian clad metal is usually more textured simply because Pompeian artists obviously took more time adding details to each subject. Since foil stickers like Armor used as well as Pompeian there is always the possibility they were Pompeian bu

Rare Pair of Jennings Bros. Mare and Foal bookends, beautifully bronzed
Very nice bronzed beautiful patina. Marked with the JB logo on the base and on the underside of the mare. One has a slight mar at the bottom edge from what looks like where it was dropped, that is the only imperfection and doesn't detract from the piece at all. They have some specs of paint on them but it seems to rub off quite easily. I could have cleaned it off but i will leave that to the new owner.
RARE Hubley Bronze Finish Serenade Tonight Circa 1925 Bookends Beautiful
HUBLEY BOOKENDS. SERENADE TONIGHT. CIRCA 1925. Mexico is an exotic land. Where palm trees wave gracefully over white-sand beaches, ranchers live in beautiful haciendas, and handsome young men in large hats and bearing guitars arrive on horseback to serenade beautiful women. One hundred years ago Americans held this conception, or perhaps we should say misconception of Mexico. This understanding of Mexico has faded, but bookends from the first half of the twentieth century captured that romantic image we commonly shared. These Hubley iron bookends. Number 233, display many of the elements of romantic Old Mexico. A well-costumed caballero stands in a paved courtyard and serenades his unreachable love. She peeps coquettishly down from behind the hacienda’s metal grill. A cactus decorates the foreground, and the petitioner’s horse waits beside ... morethe building. The cactus, beautifully done is strategically placed to deter any attempt to reach her. On the Kuritzky scale of rarity these score a 4 out of 5. They are a quality three dimensional representation with the sculptors signature. G. S. Allen in the lower right below the stairs. Listed in Collector's Encyclopedia of Bookends page 266. Bottoms are felted. Please enlarge all 12 photos for detailed review. FREE SHIPPING.
vintage bronze clad bookends, Setter, dogs, circa 1930s, matching ashtray, rare
Prior to 1914 just about all high-end sculptural artwork was solid bronze. About that time a company called Kathodian Bronze Works began manufacturing small sculptural artwork such as bookends(back then they were called“book rocks” and statuary using a process imported from Europe around the turn of the century known as electroplating or electroforming. About the same time a company called National Metalizing Company also began making this statuary. Calling the finish"Armor Bronze" After WWI the assets of this Armor Bronze division were spun off as a new entity- The Armor Bronze Company of New York City. A third high-end bronze clad manufacturer called their finish“Galvano Bronze” a term coined by and Italian emigrant in New York named Mori. The name was in honor honor of Luigi Galvini. A noted Italian for whom the term“galvanized” ... moreis named. By the end of the Roaring Twenties manufactures such as Pompeian Bronze. Galvano Bronze and Kathodian Bronze were gone. The Great Depression swallowed-up most of the“bronze clad” artisans– as the process was deemed to be too expensive and time consuming. Armor Bronze and Marion Bronze were the only two makers left after 1930. Offered here is a very uncommon pair of bronze Setter bookends. A smaller version was made by Armor Bronze And I have the matching ashtray or coin tray that goes with it- it will be listed separately. Make an offer on both! Bronze clad Patina is great See photos for condition. Note repair on the top of the tail on one bookend. There is/was a small crack across the top of the tail(at its base) It has been filled in(as it is smooth) and touched up with paint. New felts I have included photos of the matching ashtray and a comparison with the smaller Armor Bronze bookend of the same design(last two photos) Note the difference is sizes of the bases. I am going to speculate that these were made by Marion Bronze. I have seen similar presentations of the name(on the base) on other Marion Bronze sets Circa post-1930 The bookends are 5-1/2 inc
