This pair of early pewter plates have a a flat rim with ... moregood weight and are from the middle of the 18th Century. The plates are rare examples by a maker I had never been able to offer for sale before coming across a few in a recent lot I was able to purchase. One plate is marked on the back rim with the distinctive mark of Jonas Durand who worked out of London from 1732 to 1775. The second plate has a worn impressed mark in the center of the back. This plate was purchased on Charles Street in Boston on May 22, 1967. The first plate with the maker's mark, that mark can be found in Cotterrell mark# 1475. That plate was purchase on March 4th of 1966. I offer this rare pair of English pewter plates with no reserve and a Buy It Now.

This is a large pewter plate by one of the finest families ... morethat manufactured American pewter. This pewter plate has a single reeded rim and shows good manufacture. The plate has a part of two impressed eagle marks. Both marks are worn and hard to read, but one can clearly recognize the "W", above the stars and eagle. There is also a "D" that can still be read below the eagle mark to the left. This would mean there is the name "WILLIAM", above the eagle and "DANFORTH", below the eagle. The second mark appearsto have a part of the name "DANFORTH" below the eagle. These marks are listed in "A Guide To American Pewter" by Carl Jacobs, mark number 122, page 81-82; where an 8" plate with this mark was valued at $65 back in 1957.

It has a pewter& silver plated front, set with panels of Fleur de Lys, which were attatched seperately, to a wooden or card frame, with faded worn material round the edge, and black embossed paper backing. I believe it is French, circa 1900& Arts& Crafts or Art Nouveau, in style. The glass and back part are missing. I can find no maker's marks. It measures 132 x 101 mm& weighs 50.2 grams. I think this ash tray is of heavy pewter perhaps lead. That originally was copper plated. The plating is almost all worn off. see photos) It depicts"A Century of Progress" with WALGREEN DRUGS as the center focal point, dated 1934. The edge shows: Old Fort Dearborn Electrical Group, Travel and Transport, Belgian Village, Hall of Science and Sky Ride. It is 5 1/2" diameter and 3/4" deep. This flask is in nice shape for its age! It appears to be silver or silver plate over pewter but I can not be certain. It is non magnetic. It weights about 16 ounces. Antique P.N.C.W. Brass/Bronze Plated Pewter Chalice
I've seen this called everything from a chalice to an urn to a candy dish. Compote and several other terms. I believe chalice is the correct term because the best resources I have seen designate that. The date and materials are also all over the map but once again, falling back on the resources that seem to know the most about what they are talking about versus guesswork, this is a brass, possibly bronze, plated pewter chalice dating from between 1900-1920. Embossed with a floral theme, the glass insert is missing, but overall this item is in pretty decent condition for it's age. It measures about 8 inches tall and about 4 1/2 inches wide at it's widest point. Manufactured by Progress Novelty Casting Works in NJ. It would make a great decorative piece, particularly if you can locate a replacement insert, most of which are in cobalt ... moreblue.
