Inside the gold wash interior ... moreis what might be a crab hallmark. The edge of the bottom has the French Minerva hallmark and"A(3 leaf clover) G" hallmark. My jeweler believes this might have been made to carry loose powder. Snuff or used for trinkets. He dates this to the 1940's or 50's. This measures 3" wide. 1" high and 1 1/4" in the center of the rounded lid. It weighs 72 grams on my kitchen scale. I believe that this is in almost excellent condition. There is a slight dent on the side that matches a dent on the edge of the lid. It looks like someone got frustrated opening the box. My jeweler says this is easily restored if you even notice it. Please view my photographs for more description. My friend has had this stored away in her closet for decades. Now. She is starting to part with a few of her treasures. Ornate antique early 1900s French/German bronze dresser jewelry box with a painted portrait of a young man. These are usually French and I believe it is French. But there is a piece of printed paper underneath the velvet in the lid that has German printed words. So, that is why I listed it as French/German. The miniature portrait is painted on a thin slice of ox bone. This beautiful box is in good condition, but has a few dents on the bottom.The green soft velvet interior has some stains and, should most likely be replaced. The box has relief of rose garland on the sides and a rope twist around the top. The lid opens and closes just fine, but the top velvet circle needs to be glued in place it keeps falling out when I open the lid. The box measures 2 7/8" in diameter and is 1 3/8" tall. Measurements: length of base is 2 1/4 inches. Width of base a little over 1 3/4 inches. Height is a little under 6 3/4 inches. Description: rectangular base with canted corners. Magnificent shades of blue with lacy bands shading from white through an almost transparent series of bands. Blues from bright through to deep navy. A gilt bronze(ormolu) pillar is set in the center of the agate. Leading to a horizontal bar with at least 7 hooks on it, the central one, for a pocket watch and the others for a variety of jewels and trinkets. The portrait is covered with a glass crystal and there is no damage. The outside of the box is adorned with draped delicate flowers with a ribbon wreaths. The lid is hinged and the interior is lined with a dark blue velvet. The lining is in very good condition. The only markings are for France on the lid lifter. The box measures 3 1/2" in diameter and stands 1 1/2" in height.
