Wonderful old bowl in lovely colors. While my pictures look mostly alike. Please believe me that they show the bowl from 8 different side views. Bronze-clad(or electro-formed) A manufacturing process that made a skin of bronze adhere to a plaster form through electro-plating. A handful of companies used this method in the early 1900's to make decorative household objects that had the look, feel and heft of solid bronze pieces yet still were affordable by the middle class. One of those companies was Pompeian Bronze. Operating in NYC in the early'20s. Their name and stock number are formed in the bottom. I have an original Pompeian Bronze catalogue which includes a price list, and this item( 802) appears therein under category Fruit Bowl and the decorative design is called, Empire. $18 was the wholesale price back then. Condition is ... moreexcellent: no breaks in the cladding. Just wear to the finish, mostly on the interior of the bowl. Paint is original and almost entirely intact, some spots of verdigris evident. LOVELY ANTIQUE CHERUB CANDLE HOLDER 9.5" TALL 1.7 LBS
This is a fantastic piece. Although it does have one condition issue. I see a lot of corrosion around the area of the left wing, and that concerns me. It looks as though that wing is not going to last forever. Because this is made of metal spelter, it can easily be fixed. This is a piece worthy of fixing. It is very ornate and beautiful, and weighs 1.7 pounds! This is no imitation, it is the real thing! Measures 4.75" across base and is nearly 9.5" tall. A really nice authentic piece!
