BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE BRASS STANDING HEARTH TRIVET ~ 18th/19th CENTURY ~ SCARCE
You are looking at an antique brass trivet from the late 18th or early 19th century. We've never been able to date it closer with any certainty as we’ve never seen another exactly like it in over 35 years of collecting such items. We have owned this particular trivet for about 20 years and it comes from our personal collection. It has no maker’s mark which is to be expected as most handmade functional brass articles do not. We believe that the trivet is American or English in origin. It stands approximately 9” in height. It measures 6 ½” across(measured at the feet) and 9 ¾” in depth(also measured at the feet) The top is essentially a 7” x 6” rectangle. The trivet weighs approx. 2 ½ lbs. This trivet is different in a couple of ways. First. All four legs are brass and frequently standing trivets of this type have back legs ... moreof iron. Second, the front legs may be unique. We have never seen trivet legs of this shape before whether in brass, iron or copper. This automatically makes this trivet a scarce, if not rare design. As if the shape of the front legs weren't interesting enough, if you look close you will see that they terminate in“penny feet” We have seen penny feet on certain types of American andirons but we've never seen them before on this type of trivet. The top of the trivet is also quite wonderful. It has a scalloped over lapping edge with design cut corners. The center of the trivet is highlighted by a reticulated six point star suspended in a circle with each branch of the star pierced with a single hole. These six holes themselves form a circle surrounding a single hole in the dead center of the star. The four corners of the top are also decorated with a pierced or reticulated“X” in each corner. The trivet is in good overall original condition especially considering its age and that it is a functional item that was likely in daily use. It is. However, not perfect as truly old items seldom are. If you look closely at the photographs provided, you will see that the front right

Rare Late 18th Century English Brass Horn Book Alphabet ABC Letters Teaching Aid
Rare Late 18 th Century English Brass Horn Book Alphabet ABC Letters Teaching Aid This rectangular metal brass alphabet tablet was cast in relief. The 26 alphabet letters plus ampersand& OE. The tablet measures 5 inches tall and 2 1/2" wide in seven rows(one row for each day of the week) The back is inscribed St Pauls AD 1729. We do not know the exact age of this piece. The original foundry mould of the 1729 brass hornbook was re-struck throughout the eighteenth century and into the nineteenth. Brass horn books such as this were made for children attending private religious schools of the time as a take home teaching aid to give children their first educational building blocks of the English language in the early Victorian period. Made for learning and amusement. As many early games and puzzles with an underlying educational motive. ... moreThe hornbook would be tied to the student’s belt and be pulled out for impromptu study and memorization games. Much like the pocket sized chapbooks. Hornbooks were teaching tools made in a variety of materials, including brass bronze wood pewter and leather as well as other metals. The hornbook is free from any damage or repair. Crude in the making. Not polished smooth or refined, which was to be expected since it was made for children and probably considered disposable. We have not cleaned or in any way altered the surface. The photos show the hornbook with and without a flash. Encrusted with hard earned grunge with centuries of hand rubbing. A very nice example with great age patina. Wonderfully tactile. Wonderfully collectable, and if used imaginatively, wonderfully decorative. A rare example of an early teaching tool. A perfect gift for your favorite teacher. We are pleased to offer free domestic(USA) shipping with this purchase! Please send us an email with any questions or if you would like to see additional photos. Its never too early to think about Christmas! Thank you for bidding! Best PAIR 18th Century French Candlesticks Brass Bronze Seamed Rococo France
Best PAIR 18th Century French Candlesticks Brass Bronze This is a great pair of 18th century candlesticks that I believe are French. It is hard to find great candlesticks like these in pairs and even harder to find them complete including the removable Bobochet. These candlesticks are made as a pair- as shown. They are marked number"1" and"2" The bases are sand cast and turned and decorated, and the stems are seamed and heavy cast in two pieces. The candlesticks measure 6 1/2 inches tall and 4 1/2 inches across the base. They are in great as-found condition. I have not polished these but I did gently remove some wax. Under the wax is some green staining that I do not believe is a light surface discoloration and can easily be cleaned off if desired. Under one of the bases, there is a bit of corrosion as shown in the pictures. ... moreWe sell antique and used items. These items bear the signs of normal use and wear. Pair of 18th century brass counter swirl base candlesticks twist eject mechanism
This is a very rare genuine 18th century pair of brass counter swirl based candlesticks. English, dating from around 1765. The tops have petal formed candle holders and the swirls of the swirl bases go in the opposite direction as what they normally do(hence the name counter swirl based) They both have good-working twist-eject push up mechanisms inside the stems. Which works by twisting the stem to heighten a disc inside the stem. This is to push out any remaining candle wax. Both sticks are seamed(the seams were difficult to photograph as the seams are quite hard to see) and the bases are smoothly finished underneath. Height: 20 cm(7.87 inch) Condition: Very good. For all I know this could have been a very important piece of art for a Church? or a VERY rich person's house back in the time it was made. I could have listed this item for $2000 as I feel it's age presents that value and look of the item. ON Ebay though. I think Scrappers) They thought a few dollars more than scrap weight would be a good idea. ABSOLUTELY CORRECT) Thank goodness I saved this Timeless piece of art from being MELTED DOWN for Brass Weight. Equaling($25) No thanks. SO the truth as to why I am selling it is. I truly need to fix up my car and then start school to finish it again. I feel in a rut and I want to kind of start fresh. Please help me with becoming a full time student again.

18th/19th Century French Brass Tray, Hand Painted Portrait Center
DESCRIPTION: Antique French Brass Dresser Tray with Hand Painted Portrait Center. The Portrait is painted on what I think is a very thin slice of ivory or bone. I have taken several close-up photos of the painting for viewing. There is also a title or signature on the lower right hand corner but I can't quite make it out. Inside the frame behind the portrait there was also an old Stamp(like a postage stamp shape) This can be seen in the last photo and was returned to it's place behind the portrait. The Tray has four winged Griffins or Dragons with Bosoms. Each Dragon or Griffin holds a Floral Garland in it's mouth. I believe this Tray dates to possibly sometime in the 18th or early to mid 1800's but I'm not sure just when. It is truly a work of Art and is just as I found it. This piece would be a great addition to your ... morecollection. In my opinion the condition is Good Plus. There are a couple of little dings. The photos were taken with and without the flash.
