Louisiana& Tennessee Including 28 City Maps The panoramic map was a popular cartographic form used to depict U.S. and Canadian cities and towns during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries(1847 to 1929. Known also as bird's-eye views. Perspective maps, and aero views, panoramic maps are nonphotographic representations of cities portrayed as if viewed from above at an oblique angle. Although not generally drawn to scale, they show street patterns, individual buildings, and major landscape features in perspective. Panoramic maps graphically depict the vibrant life of a city. Harbors are shown choked with ships. Often to the extent of constituting hazards to navigation. Trains speed along railroad tracks, at times on the same roadbed with locomotives and cars headed in the opposite ... moredirection. People and horsedrawn carriages fill the streets, and smoke belches from the stacks of industrial plants. Urban and industrial development in post-Civil War America is vividly portrayed in the maps. Victorian America's panoramic maps are quite remarkable in the perspective of the cities they capture. Most panoramic maps were published independently. Not as plates in an atlas or in a descriptive geographical book. Preparation and sale of nineteenth-century panoramas were motivated by civic pride and the desire of the city fathers to encourage commercial growth. These maps were found in a box from an estate sale. Some marks that I found were the name"J. Thomas" on the Southeastern and Southwestern states map and a#1 and phone number on the Michigan map. All are folded neatly and in good shape. Dates on them suggest most were printed in 1995 and 1996. I also found a world map and a 1992 AAA Road Atlas. Which had completed only 11 years of service to the area, and it includes statistics for the year, written material, maps, photos related to the use of electricity(which still was relatively new to this area) and informational items. This paperbound report measures approximately 8 x 10-1/2" and contains 16 pages. It contains wonderful old b/w photographs(see examples in this listing) and two maps. It is a bit amazing at the present to learn that. So relatively recently, local utility companies had to promote electricity as being beneficial! This report is in very good condition overall. You are getting a group of six wonderful vintage fold-out maps from Sinclair oil. The dinosaur is an iconic piece of advertising. The maps say copyright 1961 but looks like they were reprinted in 1964/65 to honor the New York World's Fair. Showing the Unisphere on front of the map. The color is amazing! It doesn't look the maps were unfolded often and I really didn't want to open them up and risk folding them incorrectly! The front on all of them shows some sites from New York, including the Statue of Liberty, the Unisphere, and the Empire State Building. Love the car in front of the classic Sinclair station! The back shows Sinclair's Dinoland at the fair. Folded, each measures 4x8 inches. 1. Chicago Street Map-a street map of Chicago. Including the location of the Sinclair Oil Building. The street map is very detailed and ... moreincludes block/house numbers.
